  • i'd beat that guys face in if he asked me a question.

  • It's all fun and games until someone gets their eyeball jousted out.

  • I just feel like saying I went to school with most of these kids and then moved to NYC and became a bike messenger / alleycat racer and I am so happy that these people threw a bike race through portland. I heard you guys threw a cranksgiving last november.....go you guys

  • I like the first have of your video. pretty good.

  • so is dressing like a dickhead part of the rules or...?

  • The lady is HOT.

  • is there a race where the participants bathe? i'll enter that one...

  • hahahahahahaha portland maine!

  • It's either pure geniusness, or just garden variety asshattery.....

  • Awesome video guys.I live in Maine too. If it wasn't for the in-your-face racism, Portland Maine would have been a great place to live for me and many other blacks. I get called nigger and coon to my face just about everyday. It is insane down here. You can only grow a thicker skin and tolerate that for so long. After awhile it starts to hurt a lot and it becomes painfully unbearable to live in this beautiful city

  • @SacadHG Damn, that sucks.

  • i live in south portland, maine :)

  • pretty funny......i hope this was a spoof; if not......errrr.....

  • kids like this live in maine?

  • Half expected them all to be on fixed gears. lol, goo video

all will be real .. nothing will be made up..

    badass

    looking forward to it

  • awesome!! This has got to be done again, I want in!

  • maine i live in belfast

  • Portland, MAINE! Fuck yes! I'm a Mainer and tripping tree associate and you guys and gals rock the mic . . . and stuff.

  • this is so motherfucking shit!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL, Portland OR has done illegal bicycle races for years, and it doesn't count as illegal until one of you gets arrested.

  • your group should come join me on one of portlandvelo's Saturday morning training rides, 7:45am sharp from the shop. It's only 30 miles long and takes us less than an hour to complete. If your into sprinting, contest the group while they touch 40+ mph on the 4 designated sprints.

  • could you give me directions to find this tree?

  • its right in the west end, near maine med

  • What makes it illegal?

  • Street race on the street maybe thats why

  • I think they had a pretty good video going through the start of the race. Not being at the finish or following a rider or two kind of ruined it for them. I rate it a 4 at the beginning and a 0 at the end for an average of 2.

  • Yep, that's what happens when you have a race across a town that you can walk across in 30 minutes...

Don't get me wrong, I whole heartedly support anything my little town by the sea can collaborate on, but this is pretty lame. Post fliers next time. One "illegal bike race" in Portland last year had more than 3 times the participants you had, was twice as long and had skid/ track stand competitions afterward. I don't recognize any of the folks in this video from that race.

  • cool tree

  • I agree,

  • check out that dildo mic

  • GAWD!!!!!!!

As an avid cyclist, I am dismayed at some some the comments below. I have a proofed reading of 48.6MPH (taken from my Polar cycling computer, and it was downhill - couldn't do it otherwise!)

Bike tyres down to 40PSI ???- You're having a laugh!!!!! - No way would any road rider have pressures that low!

And road bikes are geared for the course - not for top speed (whatever that means?)

Any issues with this ? E-mail me!

  • I believe some older wheels had tires that used 40-60 psi. Example my first road bike a 70's Freespirit "Dynasty" used 26"x1 3/8" and didn't take that much presure.

On the other hand I pump 140psi for smooth roads in my 700x23c wheels when using Vredesteins.

  • 26"x1 3/8" That is an odd size for a roadbike, my first used 27"x1 1/4" - but most of us use 700x23c now. I ride on Vredesteins too, but I only use 110-120 psi - I am light and so is my bike (Cervelo R3) any more pressure means a hard ride and too much bouncing.

  • cool

  • love the mustache, so sad i missed this race it would be great to watch.

  • They should get REAL bikes. Like the bikes in my neighborhood. If u wanna see some REAL speed (40+ MPH)with Southfield Michigan's best riders, then click on my channel.

  • "Real" bikes don't come from Wal-Mart and don't have "mods" like a license plate and a "slightly deflated rear tire for better traction",which is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Pretty stupid there guy.

  • Let me explain: Race bikes are geared for top speed, which makes them PAINFULLY slow in street style racing. This is why the Walmart aspect of the Southfield bikes is emphasized in my video. Obviously you aren't into cars, or you would see how slightly deflating a bikes rear tire (down to about 40 PSI) helps acceleration. When a tire is deflated more of it touches the ground, giving it more traction which leads to a better start (although this decreases the top speed).Do you understand now? :)

  • Don't know what you mean by "street style racing",but the only bikes that are slow starters are track bikes, not road bikes. This isn't a car drag race,so I don't know why you're posting comments like you're some awesome biker telling people to get "real bikes" and making shit up about riding you're bike at 40-50mph,which would only be down hill if you're very lucky or if you're sketching on a car,and definitely not with half flat tires. You're just plain stupid.

  • Three things.

First, I did go waaaay overboard with the "REAL BIKE" stuff and I deeply apologize for the first comment in general.

Second, Street Style is like the racing games, you know, Sprint, Circuit, Drag, Drift. These races are completely different from long-distance racing, and require a different mindset and (generally) a different bike.

Third: I have no direct proof about 40+ MPH speeds, so Im not gonna say anything else about that. The tire thing is only for very short drag races.

  • this is wrong in so many ways. literally everything you've said here, other than a deflated tire having more surface area on the ground, is incorrect.

  • I tried deflating my tire to 40 psi to help the accelaration. But it bent my rim when I hit a pothole. You owe me a new rim.

  • rEEEdickulous

  • Wha? Good or bad? And why isn't my reply to Aaron518 showing up?

  • The son of John the wad Holmes is alive!

  • they is crackers :DDDD

  • doubt that...Maine is a little slice of heaven!

  • Cool!

  • damn. I grew up on the Hill, and I think I missed the resurrection (again). Glad about you guys.

  • yall should of got some cycling gear!

  • great mustache

  • Why is it called the "Tripping Tree"?

  • think about it genius

  • lol

  • Interesting idea, but why oh why was a bike cam missing?

  • the only female racer had the best strategy ever.
