  • @RockingOutLoud4Ever1 No, I taped it back in the 90's when it came on. I also traded with other people who taped it to increase my collection.

  • xLonelyAspiex It's The Force Of The Heat From The Fire Inside That Causes The Windows To Explode From The Inside. Being That Glass Doesn't Burn. It Can Only Withstand Heat To A Certain Temperature. Causing The Windows To Expand And Explode. As The Heat Is So Intense That It Shatters The Windows. I Googled This Information. If You Want To Follow Up On It.

  • I Think that Family Should've Had A Fire Escape Plan, They should Practice It Over And Over Again, And They Should Also Pick A Meeting Place Too.

  • this made me cry

  • considering the fact that old eletricity outlets are mostly at fault and the smoke detector was electric, they should´ve opted for a battery powered detector just for backup.

  • My friend was severely burned in a fire that was set on purpose. The ones who set it knew there were people in the building before they started the fire.

He has to have reconstructive surgery on a continual basis. Nine years later and he still has reconstructive surgery for it.

He thinks he's lucky to have lived, but I wonder sometimes.

They left my daughter's dad in the building, b/c they had no choice but to leave the scene or be killed too.

  • I think that what Jay did was very amazing. I have no idea why I started watching this show but I do like some of these stories (even though not all of them have happy endings).

  • yeah by the time we get on scene these single and double wide mobile homes are usually fully involved and its not cause we dont get there fast we are most of the time first due and our response time is around 8-14 min for the WHOLE SOUTH END OF THE COUNTY

  • one huge thing ive learned from watching rescue 911 is there is obviously some heroic power in the unibrow.

  • Biggest mistake CBS made was taking this show off the air! Must the stuff they have now is crap!

  • I notice that in all the house burning episodes, the windows blow out, like there was an explosion by the window, what causes that?

  • was the baby alone? or did the dad went outside and did something?

  • what an incredible man!

  • I think that william shatner should've been general manager of wwe raw.

  • wow being a cadet firefighter this really is a reminder of why i want to to risk my life to save the lives of others.

  • this year Leonard would be 43

  • if you had a hose or something outside spray the fire

  • I was ADDICTED to this show. Made excuses nights it was on and watched in amazement of people surviving.

This episode makes me think of the night that a classmate of mine and 2 brothers sadly perished in a trailer fire. The father was gone that night and they couldn't get out. They broke a window earlier in the year and were told never to do it. Eddie Rabbit's Someone Could Lose a Heart Tonight was playing. It was eerie since the night they died I first heard that song.

  • If I was the first Police Officer on scene (Which I have been) and someone said her infant was inside, Id jump in WITH the neighbor, I couldn't live with at least not trying to find them.

  • Damn trailers.....i almost died in one of these a few years back when an old push button electric stove shorted out....they really do burn in a matter of minutes

  • possiable strucher fire how is it possiable when theres flames showin

  • Wow That guy was brave.

  • omg i am so glad he did that god bless him

  • i would never live in a trailer

  • awe, cute lil baby.

  • the bad part about tralier fires is u have 7 minutes to get out befor it burns down

  • @allgood2000 that is very true

  • no fuses

  • this was my life long dream being a firefighter when i was a kid i always wanted to be a firefighter

  • no fuses or circuitbreakers

  • I can't imagine how difficult it would be for someone to be able to function in that type of smoke. You have toxic fumes from carpet, upholstery, linoleum, etc.... All that stuff is poisonous when it burns. If you must go through that, it is best to breathe as efficiently as possible and get low to the ground, but it looks like the house was completely saturated with smoke to where the smoke was on the floor.

  • Woah! That was HUUGE! I will have to deal with that when I'm a firefighter.

  • Today Angela is almost 22 and Ryan is almost 24.

  • @ZMommaL56 and so Angela is the same age as me and Ryan is the same age as my sister

  • @ZMommaL56 and so they are the same age as me and my sister

  • @ZMommaL56 and Leonard is 43 and Jay is 46

  • does anybody have the rest of this segement called pond boy, a little boy drowns while fishing?

  • the mother is selfish for jumpin out with out checkin to see if her husband or mainly her kids were ok

  • @hamlinfan69 If she hadn't jumped out the window, she probably would also have collapses with her husband, and they all would have burned to death. The only reason that Jay knew what was going on and got there in time was because he heard the mother's screams for help.

  • @hamlinfan69 WTF? This isn't an episode of the Maury Povich show! lol

  • @hamlinfan69 the husband told her to break the window. he wanted her to get out and he said he was getting the baby. she is not selfish you dumb fuck! she was fucking screaming for help and was worried about her husband and baby!

  • that first officer around 6:00 why didnt he go in...and why was he giving up hope so quickly....wtf

  • I have to reply to this again.... I am a Combat tested former US ARMY Soldier and a Firefighter, and I can tell you what this man did was truly what the word Hero was invented for. In the dictionary the word Hero should have a reference to this. To act upon your gut instinct to help is one thing, but to CONTINUE to act when your lungs are seering with the pain of oxygen starvation and your skin is burning from heat is truly remarkable.

  • I'd sure like to see the Cbs version of this seg! I wonder what was cut out of it?

  • @DorvellTStewart Two things I can think of that were cut.

At 3:26, about 18 seconds were cut where the dispatcher picked up the phone, and Jay's wife says (in her interview) what she told the dispatcher. In this version, you only see the end of the call where the dispatcher hangs up the phone. It wasn't an 'actual call', though.

They also cut all of Leonard's mother's interview out of the end, where she says she is thankful for what Jay did.

  • omg he was so nice 4 going in and saving the kids and the 250 pound dude!!!

  • wow jay is a real hero

  • That is why you should always have battery powered smoke detectors as well. A hard wired smoke detector will not work if the fire melts the wires.

  • I love the music at the beginning of the segment! It has that, "Nothing Could Possibly Go Wrong" type of sound to it.

  • OMG.

  • It's still difficult for me to watch fire scenes.

My daughter's dad died in a fire.

His last thoughts were not of himself. He was more concerned about what it might do to our daughter if he died.

I find that amazing; that someone would think more about that than their own situation.

  • This is why I'll never live in a Mobile home with my Mobile cell phone.

  • The neighbor is a hero!!!!

  • Its always Electricity I mean we need light but not a massacre

  • theyre better nowadays, you know.

  • My fire detectors run on 9-Volt batteries. I test them once a month or so. The ones I have now are about 5 years old if not any older. When they go off or when I push the test button, it makes the loud beeping noise and a strobe light flashes every second. Ones you see in these reruns of Rescue 911 are ones you want to replace with the modern day ones, which only cost $20 or so.

One question I have about this segment of Rescue 911. Where did this story take place?

  • I think it was somewhere in Wyoming. I'm not sure though.

  • Milltown, Idaho.

  • Ok. It doesn't say in the intro. Or maybe it did, but it was cut off.

  • He did say that, but it got cut off on this tape.

  • St. Maries, Idaho

  • Her cries for help are heart renching!

  • I love the old fashioned pumper truck

  • The action starts at 1:54

  • Are you talking about when the fire starts? Or when she runs out of the house?

  • god bless firefighters!!!

  • he wasnt a firefighter he was just a brave hero... my dad :))

  • do they have circuit breakers

  • This is the very reason people should have a smoke detector that both is hard wired and has a battery backup. I'm not sure about then but I'm pretty sure they all come that way now.

  • in iowa that is the law now that all new structures are required to have hard wired detectors with battery backup

  • Does a smoke detector being hardwired mean that even if the power goes out, it'll still work?

  • well if the power goes out that is what the battery backup is for and i am not sure but i think that all smoke detectors have to be hooked together so if one goes off they all go off (well i know that is the case for big buildings like schools and stores like walmart). and if any one else has questions about fire related thing in iowa just let me know and i will answer them to the best of my ability (but know this at the time of this reply i have only been in the fire service for about 9 months

  • I'm not sure either but it seemed like a fire fighter friend I knew told me once that houses have to be that way also now for new construction (at least in Wisconsin) and that that was just recently became law.

  • Jay is a hero of uncommon valor! I have fought fires without SCBA(Air packs) and have choked on the acrid smoke that is produced by a structure fire. The will that Jay had to save those people is truly remarkable! He is a hero among heros to save that family. God bless him!

  • I agree. He's brave but I think its just a human instinct to go help in anyway possible to go in a building is on fire especially when you hear them screaming for help..I doubt any real human being could ignore that no matter how dangerous it is.

  • I wonder why a short-out wouldn´t have simply meant that the internal electricity has malfunctioned and can´t be used to turn any electrical device on.

  • 2 things that always tick me off. One are the mothers running around screaming, "my baby my baby" yes you care for you kid I know that. I don't need my ear drums blasted out with it though. If you want to help, get out of the way so I can do my job. The second is police officers that go in burning buildings. We show up on scene and find that not only is there a family inside but there's also the cop who wanted to be a hero. If you pass out or get hurt your just another victim to save/burry.

  • it´s bad that a trailer has very few escpae routes and can be quite narrow under dangerous circumstances such as fire.

  • I am so extremely lucky to call this guy my dad. He is my true hero not many poeple would have done what he did and thats why he is so special to me. He will always be my hero. I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!!!

  • holy crap, they left the light on?!

  • you should have battery back up in your smoke alarms

  • Part one: First of all I would like to say thanks for the positive comments you have given. Jay Sines is my father and no matter what he will always be my hero just for being himself not for something he did when I was a child. I am just recently looking into the publicity that was given over this event because to tell you the truth, it isn't or wasn't talked about much in our house. We all knew my dad was hero but no one ever bragged or boasted about it.

  • Part two: It wasn't until recently that I found a need to recover this information to have it for my future children and grandchildren. I think it is important to keep a legacy alive. For those of you, who think that Cindy is stupid for not going for her children first, think hard about what you are saying. Yes, children should come first but when faced with a situation like that you don't have time to plan out every move you make.

  • Part three: I am sure she never once thought that her husband wouldn't be able to get the children out safely if that was the thought she would have done it herself! All I know is that if she wouldn't have been out there that night screaming my father would not have heard her and those children would have died. Things happen for a reason. A real hero doesn't plan out every move; they just do what they have to do.

  • What i meant is i would have got my kids out first and my husband!

  • Trust me you don't think steight when your house is on fire lol. My house cought on fire last summer and I came out freaking out. I didn't think I'd get that panicky and I know your not supposed to in those kinds of situations, but I thought my house was going to burn down.

  • What mother in their right mind leaves a burning house without her children?! If the husband goes to get one baby you go get the others!

  • I guess you don't think straight when your house is on fire. However, the only reason help came was because her neighbor heard her screaming. If she had gone with her husband, she probably would have also collapsed inside and no one would have known what was going on until it was too late.

  • THE MOM IS SO FREAKING STUPID!

  • Why?

  • I looked all over the web to figure out where this was and i found out it's in Idaho (the potato state)

  • Is that all you know Idaho by? Makes me feel good, I live in Idaho.

  • Northern Idaho, Jay Sines is my father

  • The fire department isn't that poor they have what looks to be a 1970's or early 1980's model ford pumper. And this was made in 1990

  • what I meant was the mini fire engine behind the 70's-80's pumper.

  • Yeah I saw it, but the truck in front isn't that old.

  • Isn't this the ep. with the segment where the guy with the car phone tails AND nails the bank robber in the white trans-am?

The robber had red-dye on his clothing??

  • Yes.

  • not really, its just a small town, less than 1500 people

  • yeah the woman spent her time circling the house screaming for helop when she could've been out there saving her husband and kids!!

  • i agree

  • how can a 1950's firetruck still be used such as the one at 0:603

  • ya, we got one where i live today, i think it might be 1960's but they still use it

  • A lot of small town volunteer fire departments (the ones with almost no budget)still use trucks from the late 50's to late 70's. It's real awesome to see something that is half a century old and it only has 30,000 miles on the odometer and every thing still works fine.

  • Stupid women!! Not for a second would I give up on my child! I'd die trying! SHe was the first one out the window!

  • Yeah, I don't get that... she didn't even try to get the kids. There are 2 kids- why should the husband have to get both of them? I mean, she should've at least tried to help him and get at least one kid!

  • According to TV Tome, this happened in Milltown, Idaho.

  • Anyone know the city and state of this incident? I didn't notice Shatner say so.

  • Milltown, Idaho

  • Pretty damn scary!

  • JAY IS A HERO GOD BLESS HIM

  • This is my dad he is the biggest hero in my life!!!

  • He's very heroic, you are lucky!

  • I have a new Trailer

  • Aww Angela is so cute

  • I lived in a trailer and I had a fire in November 2006. Luckly It was a newer model so it was well better built. The fire was contained in the kitchen thanks to heroic firemen. They went in even though i told them everyone was out. They saved my trailer.

  • this video is1988

  • vote on rescue 911 to come out on dvd,at tvshowsondvd, com ,rescue 911 has 433 votes

  • When people say that you should always check your home's wiring, checking your circuit breakers is actually what they probably mean. In this instance, the short in the wiring that ultimately caused the fire should have tripped the breaker, causing the power to go out.

  • a trailer near my house burnt do to nelgents

on circuit breaker box which started the fire.

  • Wow that guy is a real hero.

  • I know thats why i i'm proud to call him my dad!!!

  • How is he these days?

  • Wow, that guy is a HERO HERO HERO xoxo If not for him there would have been 3 bodies pulled out of there.

  • This is why I do not want to live in a trailer. Trailers are unprotected against fire and tornado activity.

  • Among other things.

  • You and me both. Trailers are death traps.

  • This exemplifies why you need a smoke detector with a battery backup. Also this was featured in a Reader's Digest® "Drama in Real Life™" article.

  • omg that was so dramatic

  • The babies are going to be trapped in the burned trailer.

  • I remember seeing this episode and thinking this is so sad. To think had not the neighbor shown up when he did, it would have been a major disaster.

  • Yeah, especially considering that this family seems really close to each other!

  • the part I will always remember is the mother's High pitched scream for the father.
