The Patriot Act (and the Geneva Conventions) specifically applies the category of "Enemy Combatant" to persons captured without uniform in combat zones on foreign soil. Simple as that. This is what I hate. People blaming the average American soldier for the problems in Iraq. Yes, Bush is a douche. Yes, So was Saddam. Yes, some of the insurgents fighting in Iraq are just trying to protect their own. Yes, some of them also go and blow up innocent people, just to get their "hate America" agenda furthered. I'm not going to argue with you on the definition of insurgent, as I agree with you about it. However, U.S. soldiers don't know how to deal with this situation. They haven't been trained to deal with an insurgency.

Sir, I don't know where you are from, who you are, or why you harbor these opinions for American soldiers. I will, however, have you know that I grew up in the military, was raised by two soldiers, and both parents have been deployed overseas, including my own mother who was sent to Iraq in 2003. I can tell you, first hand, that soldiers are not primarily hateful people. My mother can tell you, first hand, that these events are not a majority event.
I cannot dissuade you, which saddens me.

perhaps you and your family act honourably. however i have watched soldiers when they know their CO isnt watching. also the soldiers now are a different breed from before. what should sadden you is that what im saying is from MY experiences. You may have a different idea of war than the rest of us. however a civilian doesnt regard soldiers as ppl to welcome to the bar. we have always watched them carefully with good reason. They cause most of the trouble.

Here's where your argument is wrong. The Patriot Act (and the Geneva Conventions) specifically applies the category of "Enemy Combatant" to persons captured without uniform in combat zones on foreign soil. Simple as that. So if you are a US citizen then you would have to be caught in a combat zone overseas without your military uniform. Something I doubt you would ever have to worry about.

Shatterjack, what I said was that it "applies" the category, not that it defines it. The best examples of this are now upheld by the U.S Supreme court. Jose Padilla was unable to be defined by the Bush administration as "unlawful combatant" (which has its own slight distinction as from "enemy combatant"). So my point was that the Patriot Act along with the Supreme Court have determined that you cannot be picked up and defined as an unlawful combatant for running over President Bush's dog.
