  • A true master at work...loved him for years, seen him live several times....always sends me off to other worlds his music live, and on record tbh....awesome stuff \m/

  • Different flavors for different folks......

  • lets get joe and neil young together, that would be amazing

  • @51aileen I've always wanted to see/hear a Satriani version of "Down by the River" or "Cowgirl in the Sand"

  • GREAT

  • El Satriani mas inspirado de la historia!

  • ehh no need to get all flustered. rolling stone should be taken about as seriously as the rock n roll hall of fame.

  • One of (if not THE) best guitarists of all time! I get all excited listening to him, especially Ceremony (and all the others OF COURSE) :-)

  • One (if not THE) best guitarists of all time! I get all excited listening to him, especially Ceremony (and all the others OF COURSE) :-)

  • Guitar God. Period.

  • hes not a musician hes a magician .. AWESOME !!

    THUMBS UP IF TRUE !

  • the best guitar

  • Fucking amazing solos...

  • they need to make a joe satriani guitar hero

  • amazing!!!!

  • MAGIC!

  • When Steve Vai and Joe Satriani die thats when the world will end not in 2012!!!!

  • Vin Diesel looks like gay Joe Satriani.

  • @DelornificatioN Well, if this isn't SPAM I dunno what is.

  • @DelornificatioN yeah if you decapitated satch and put his head on arnold schwarzenegger's body

  • Now I know where Kirk Hammet take the Wha-Wha...

  • if you put attention between 0:01 and 0:02 you can hear a guy that screams : 'joe, ceremony!!! ' just one second before joe says it, what an epic orgasm i would have had....

  • super super and simply superb!

  • Amazing Joe!

  • God damn it YouTube, where the fuck is the instant replay button?

  • Joe has and old album called "Dreaming #11" (1998), that has 3 live recordings ("Ice Nine", "Memories", and "Hordes of Locusts"), and one studio recorded song, "The crush of Love".

If you want a couple of songs to 'blow your hair back', try to get "Memories" and "Hordes of Locusts" from that album.

  • i wanna see this song used as the soundtrack to a awsome anime battle scene.

its an amazing peice of work, and joe is the man.

would give up all toes on left foot to play like he does!

  • @999benhonda It may not be used in an anime battle scene but it is used in a video of some guy feeding live animals to his snapping turtle. The snapping turtle destroys them... I don't know if that's any consolation?

  • omg! it is impossible to come up with 4:19

  • Has anyone been to a concert, where at times, there's a *collective gasp of the entire audience* (helps if you're part of it).

I've had that experience once in Vancouver (Queen E theater). Ain't nothin like it. Shivers up one's spine. One of those occured during the fastest part of the 'solo' (if that's what it's called) of "Why?".

  • @01235shank he played why a few nights earlier/later in calgary. and talk about genius, flawless. inspired me like no other. i know the gasp you are talking about!!

  • @dimebag4ever426

Yeah, every song he played at the Vancouver concert was flawless. And when the acoustics of the theater (Queen E) that he played in was designed for maximum acoustic quality, that no doubt helped quite a bit. He was able to play his feedback (like "Flying in a ....") superbly. Tied with Jeff Healy (early 1989) for best concerts in my life. Jeff Healy because I was standing 8 feet away from him with a clear view of him and nobody pushing or shoving (Commodore Ballroom).

  • This song is just what guitar is all about. It's nice to see this live version but if you haven't heard the studio I think its much better in that it's clearer and has much better volume.

    Bored with life?

Step 1 take Original recording of Ceremony

Step 2 turn it on in your Car - blast volume

Step 3 find isolated, straight back road

Step 4 wait for climax of solo

Step 5 Floor gas pedal as if taking off to another galaxy

    Repeat if necessary.

  • are there any other good songs like ceremony?

  • @ishamael0

Yes *many*. Would you like me to list a number of them? I haven't heard his last few albums though but the 6 or 7 that I've heard contain a very large number of songs. Do you like instrumental rock guitar music?

    Cheers

  • @01235shank

yeah sure man. joe satriani is quite a famous guitarist in somalia for his playing style

  • this is the best concert dvd i have ever seen. his playing is impeccable. and he doesn't go on all the mindless meanderings at the end of every other song, like in the JS live DVD from 2006. This concert by far superior, and Stu Hamm on bass rocks that shit out and powns all!!

  • This is Joe's Best Music.

  • No one does an instrumental album like Satriani. Not to say that Buckethead or Vai, Gilbert etc are not as good, it just seems to me that Satriani is the strongest candidate for variety and listenability.

  • @sportsportsport the only contender that is close in my eyes is Andy timmons that i equally love. His Resolution album can stand up to satrianis albums.

  • @sportsportsport I have to agree. Satch can write music that more people can appreciate and enjoy. It takes a special person to like Vai, Gilbert, Buckethead. Where as almost everyone can relate to the music the Satch writes no matter if you play any musical instrument at all.

  • @sportsportsport Afraid Buckethead may have Joe beat in variety. Listenability, yeah, Satch definitely has that over Buckethead. Advent garde is, well, advent garde for a reason. :P

  • @madanimalsstudios I own every buckethead album. Just my opinion.

  • @sportsportsport I think what separates Satriani from a lot of the other guitar virtuosos is the level of discipline he has. He rarely makes a mistake on stage and his live versions of songs are usually as good as the studio version, and with his knack for improvisation sometimes they're even better! (See Cool No. 9)

  • @sportsportsport yeah, Satriani is the most tasteful musician of the bunch

  • This is one of my favorite Satch tunes to play on the guitar. It's got a great groove and a simple melody that anyone can enjoy! It really amazes me that such a simple tune can bring so much joy to the one playing it, but then again, that's the genius of Satriani for you.

  • the most beautiful song!epic

  • You know, something that really sets him appart, from great great artists, is that he not only puts his soul into it, but he shows how happy he is and how much he enjoys it, that simply perplexes me and makes me happy :)

  • When "Crystal Planet" was released, it was turning-point without no return. This song made that point with "Lights of heaven"

  • Hard to believe there are people watching cat videos on the tube right now instead of the master.

  • @zeliig everyone watch what they like

  • there truly never will be another human being quite like Joe...

  • Im not sure whether i am cold or if im getting goosebumps.

  • didn't know riddick played guitar.

  • Love this 1 !

  • I have come to the conclusion that there are a few geniuses living on this planet including the maths man Kahn Kinkardy and Joe.

  • STUUUU!!!!!!

  • Joe Satriani is not of this earth after all! hes a guitar god!

  • όντως είναι απο τους καλύτερους γιατί πολλοί μπορούν να παίξουν λίγοι όμως συνθέτουν και παίζουν σαν και αυτόν

  • did he perform back to shalla-bal in this show, if so, give me the link please.

  • @superbeast326 He never plays that song idk why. I heard this last tour he might but nope never played it.:(

  • Perfect use of the guitar! Simple and easy but very very GREAT!!!!

  • 10 people are deaf

  • lsjdkfja

  • Αν ξέρεις να ακούς ηλεκτρική κυθάρα ο Satriani είναι ένας από τους καλήτερους κυθαρίστες.

  • Listen to this song full blast riding down the road at night with all the lights...it's like you're tripping on acid.

  • man boobs!

  • Great guitarrist, cant be easy making so many songs with no lyrics in it.

He is on my top5 list, but not number 1.

I still like shredder like Rhandy Roads more, other guys on my top 5 is Mark Knopfler, Axel Rudi Pell and Ritchie Blackmore

  • perfection of simplicity >> Joe Satriani

  • And to think he didn't even make rolling stone magazine's top 100 guitarist's and kurt cobain did........show's you how much they know about playing a guitar!

  • @zeliig know rolling stone is a joke....Satch should be #1 on the list

  • @zeliig Cobain had a very unusual and influential take on the guitar, but you are right, a travesty. Those lists generally suck balls though.

  • @zeliig youre totally right dude, i checked some live nirvana performances and i was like wtf i can play better xD

  • @zeliig I started to play guitar because of Kurt and Satriani... lol...

  • @zeliig lol yes thats ridiciolous

  • @zeliig I just saw the list, gotta be honest I thought you saw it wrong xD I still can't believe it O.O no steve vai, joe, DIMEBAG, disgrace.

  • @zeliig another proof that RS mag know "everything" 'bout playing a guitar. Joe is THE master!

  • @zeliig ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? Rolling Stone rag didn't have Joe in the top 100?

Is that because he's better than the top one hundred and they had no way to quantify or qualify?

    Silly...

  • @zeliig Somebody needs to tell me what Kurt Cobain did to be recognized as a great guitar player rather than a guitar player.

  • @05VolvoVN he wrote some really interesting songs, and had a distinctive sound. he wasn't technically brilliant, but he was brilliant in the way Neil Young is brilliant on the guitar, or Greg Sage (I admit he's not as good as Young)

  • super .-

  • So powerful. So beautiful. So transcendental.

  • I hope satch isn't from this planet, then it would make me feel better for not being able to play like that

  • What can you say, Satch is "The Maestro". WOW! His playing has so much feeling. He is definitely a Genius.

  • :D so much talent in the world only makes me appreciate Joe even more for not only making it, but standing the test ot time

  • Joe Satriani is my favourite guitarist... when I listen his songs I fell soul of music..keep going JOE !!!

  • what a great song...

  • 29 oktober HMH \m/

  • dork

  • 0:00 - 5:57 Masterpiece!

  • 2:10 - 2:20 best riff ever!

  • Comment removed

  • the way he plays his music is like its not even rehearsed. Usually when guitarists have played a piece too many times they lose their feelings for the song. But joe's always got soul. And never misses a note.

  • He just nails everything live straight to the wall. One of the most precise, reliably amazing musicians out there, but it doesn't come across as robotic. God I love it

  • MASTER!

  • killa song this guy knows wat he s playin

  • One of my fovorites on that great album . Buy it now .

  • 2.09 - 2.32 simply amazing. the best. Ive seen Joe several times. Wiltern Theater in LA in 2000...Extremeist. Awesome. However the best was a small bar in Kansas City, MO,,,Baumont Club.

Maybe 100 people...open seating. Crystal Planet tour....Jeff Campitelli on drums...front and center all night. He tossed my wife a pic that night.

I got my camera ripped by security when i started taking pictures but got it back after the show. unfortuantly the 3 or 4 i took didnt come out.

  • I remember the first time hearing Satch, and thinking there is no way this cat can play this stuff live and pull it off...Man was i wrong!!!...Joe is at his best live ;)))

  • It dont get much better than this! it just gets different. n please stop passing judgement on whos the best that is one stupid topic. Satch Rocks!

  • I love how people wanna say shit like Steve Vai can play way better than Joe but Im sure they didn't know that Satriani taught Vai how to play the fucking guitar.

  • balls

  • he´s the best...!

  • @piloto1324

    not the best

  • forgot to say``````

  • Man when Joe dies(if that ever happens he Is a guitar GOD after all), God is gonna have the best time ever listening to Joe and Jimi play together in heaven

  • @neanderthal117 and will too :)

  • @neanderthal117 Today Joe talks about Jimi.

Tomorrow WE will talk about Joe... It's a chilling thought...

  • @neanderthal117 Amen my Friend Amen

  • @neanderthal117 the day that Joe dies will be the darkest day of music history, mark my words...

  • @neanderthal117 Hendrix in heaven...lol.. mmk.

  • @earthygreen he said Jimi... it could be Jimmy Page...

  • Comment removed

  • @crawling211 Ok.. Hendrix or Page... neither are gonna be gracing the spaces of heaven. Not only was Page obsessed with the self-proclaimed "Most Evil Man on Earth" but Hendrix had struggles with Demonic Oppression. He spoke of it to his partner numerous times. How he was tormented by fears and darkness, feeling as though he were taken over at times and he wanted to simply escape the living nightmare. Page, he wouldn't *want* to be in heaven. He alliegences lay elsewhere.

  • @earthygreen BS. Whether people go to heaven is nothing to do with their paranoia, its to do with whether they actually caused good or ill in the world. Both of these men created a huge amount of happiness and inspiration. Oh and btw Crowley was not self proclaimed most evil man on earth, that was only what the trash press said about him! He was just a radical freak experimenting with breaking the incredibly strict social and religious rules of his day.

  • @AlexAlcyone BS. Crowley DID self-proclaim. He LOVED the title. You obviously know NOTHING about him. He caused at least two women to lose their minds. With the forced beastiality to the drugs. He died falling RIGHT into line with tradition. Raising a son and believing his entire life was a WASTE OF TIME. And obviously you know NOTHING regarding heaven. Causing good or ill has nothing to do with our access to heaven.

  • Satch would never have been if hendrix hadn't died. Read Satch's wiki.

  • Turn the Vuvuzelas on, Satriani is here!

  • @FullMetalEnkidu hahaha i keep playing with the vuvuzela button, it rules

i hope they don't take it off after the cup is over!

  • awesome

  • I bet he's really hot in those trousers

  • Sounds just like it would on a record.

  • yeh show us shots of his bassist and drummer during the best part of the solo.great editing

  • @rossm21uk ha this is true

  • @rossm21uk haha i know it pisses me off i just wanna see satch all the way through the solo's

  • @rossm21uk Yeah, don't want any of us aspiring musicians out there to learn something by watching his fingers now do we?

  • 3:57 on gets me every time

  • I really think Hendrix would've dug this.

  • he is the man

  • Its not Joe.------

    Joe is better

  • He makes it looks so easy at 2:15...

  • best

  • I love how Joe decides to change the song a bit and band goes along with it making it sound even more amazing

  • i saw Sat. with deep purple back in 1993. damn i feel old... :)

  • PERFECT !

  • RippedSupreme OMFG! got chills when I saw all those lightning-fast bends at 2:21, and each note is played with such emotion, something that few people can fathom

  • OMFG! got chills when I saw all those lightning-fast bends at 2:24, and each note is played with such emotion, something that few people can fathom.

  • I love, love, LOVE this fucking song!! This man is without a doubt the best guitarist to ever walk the face of this earth. He's the one who inspired me to start playing guitar. I own every single one of his albums. I saw him live with Chickenfoot for the first time last year, and he totally blew my mind. He was absolutely amazing. I never have seen him perform solo before, but I hope to someday.

Please come back to Houston soon, Satch. You're the greatest!!

    Your #1 fan,

    Steve <3

    Also, 0:00 - 5:57, Mind = Blown

  • wow new youtube layout lol

  • Joe Satriani is definitely a genius of our time.

  • @IneptiiKz you mean"THE genius of our time"

  • I love the studio version.. especially the Outro on the studio version... was just amazing.

  • @seffe28 False.

  • WOW!

    such good music and shredding

  • HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this particular live version of this song - much more than the version on the Crystal Planet album. What I wouldn't give to see Satch in concert.

  • I've seen him live... twice. He is un-freakin-believable. He started with the opening riff of "One Big Rush", and I thought it was going to blow me through the back wall of the theater.

Joe is about 53 degrees of awesome. And he just keeps going.

  • so perfect!! so fucking perfect!!!!! i wanna learn this! :)

  • @mario31123456789 ya good lucky with that

  • Just perfect!

  • i have been listening to him since the early eighties and he just simply awesome and the best i have every heard and i m a big gutiar buff joe keep kicking ass with that gutiar he is truly surfing with an alien

  • awesome

  • I Love This Guy

  • Wish Joe played more Crystal Planet the few times I went to see him (with the exception of the title track). Lights of Heaven, Up in the Sky, a Train of Angels...such a good mix.

  • Man I can play most of this but I can't get the 3:56 and on to sound good at all...anyone got any serious advice? (not something like "yeah, get better" because that's what I'm trying to do)

  • @ASteveVaiFan What is it you're having trouble with more specifically?

  • That is my problem; I don't know. I think I'm not muting properly. If I let it ring too long there's gross amounts of buzz, and if I mute too early it sounds like crap. Satch doesn't seem to mute here so I think it may be my gear. It's the part at 4 mins in.

  • @ASteveVaiFan Well I think he is with his left hand actually. The trick seems to me, with a phaser and some other cool stuff going on, but with perfection on the picking and muting. What do you think?

  • @ASteveVaiFan AND, obviously his equipment that advertises his mastery of cleanliness in his playing. Certainly a pretty big factor, lol.

  • Yeh, it's just a pain when I work my ass off to learn that solo and then follow it up with what sounds like crap with my rig/skill. Oh well, thanks again.

  • There is only one Satch! :D

You can play his songs but you can never write songs of type he does and play them excatly as him (I'm talking generaly not to you :D )! :)

  • Trust me bro, I know that. Were I able to do what Satch does I'd certainly not be spending my time on youtube!

  • Well actually I knew you knew that but that's just for other people! :))

Well yeah bro, there are some sick bastards on this planet like Satch! :)

  • 4:48 WOW

  • one of his greatest songs!!!

  • This track shows how great soul and abilities Joe has...Long live Silver Surfer of Guitar!!!

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIENDS!

  • Merry Belated Christmas, and Cheers! To a Happy New Year!
