I was only a baby when this came out but my older brother (another massive Who fan) bought it and played it all the time. The grey vinyl made it so different from all the other records we had, and the cover art with the galaxy inside the head really caught my imagination. I literally grew up listening to this track (and watching DW). Love it! :)
On Friday 13th November 1978. I set out at 8am with 7' and 12" Blue copies. On my way back to North London at 10pm that night I stopped off at the The Birds Nest disco on Muswell Hill. Taking my 12" copy I got into the DJ's booth and I pointed to my copy. He gave me the thumbs up and reached down to a row of records and pulled out HIS copy! From Label to wholesaler to DJ to punters listening in less tha a day. That's when I knew it was going to be a hit! Best Don Gallacher - Producer
HI EVERYBODY. The album by Mankind - 'Gallifrey And Beyond' is live NOW (Jan 3rd 2011) on iTunes stores worldwide. Includes radio and club versions of Dr Who and the B Side 'Time Traveller' plus radio and club versions of two other releases: 'Chain Reaction', 'Funky Revolution' 'Dark Star Angel' and UFO. Check it out - Power search 'Gallifrey' under title. Pass the word folks. Don Gallacher
I had to take four trips to the record shop in 1978 to buy this. Called, it was in stock, wouldn't reserve it, got there (had to walk 25 minutes -- I was 14 at the time) and they were all gone by the time I got there! It was always out of stock because it was so popular. Massive disco hit at the time. I finally got it on yellow viynl at my fourth attempt.
@BurningPotatoFilms I would presume it's a publicity shot from "The Five Doctors" - except that is not really Tom Baker, but the Madame Tussaud's wax figure of him in his last season outfit, as he chose to not return to the show for the episode.
@BurningPotatoFilms My apologies - I didn't know which one you were talking about until I saw this again. It's not the one I thought was the still they did for "Five Doctors". This one with the trio is actually I believe a car ad. They were doing a parody of the common joke used about the TARDIS exterior versus interior.
Wow what a classic i played this so much when i was a kid i wore the record out lol i have it on twelve inch vynil now and am still a massive dr who fan....cool
bloody hell this takes me back i was only 8 years old can remember my dad buying me the 7"version and still to this day i'm a doctor who fan great stuff
I doubt it'd be 'Last of the time lords' because he's only the last in the new (2005+) Series. In the classic (1963 - 1989 + 1996 tvm) Gallifrey was still very much a thriving planet

I remember listening to this when I was around 10. It sounds more like Hi NRG than disco though, especially with the drums.
