  • c'est excellent quelle voix magnifique c'est superbe!!

ja dok budem ziv bicu poklonik (fan) pok. velikog-najveceg g.Maria Lanze

  • Sharp? Not Mario.

Not at all. I say he is perfectly on throughout this piece and all I have ever heard him sing on Youtube. His talent goes WAY beyond pitch.

  • Cielo e mar needs the intro to set the tone...But it is Mario

    and wonderful.

  • Although this version has some beautiful touches (especially the opening phrase -- rightly described as "rapt" and "poetic" by critic Henry Fogel), it's not Lanza's best recording of the aria. For one thing, he's quite sharp at times. For a better version overall, I recommend his exciting 1952 radio rendition.

  • @derekmcgovern I caught the pitch problem as well. It is a common problem for tenors as we try to "lift/carry" the voice "up". My personal favorite, Jussi B, did it a lot on stage & the critics, looking for something to complain about, would leap on it. I was also taught to cheat up a little in ensembles to make the voice carry. Lanza also had a problem in that he would rather "cover" than modify the vowel. Of course, when he got it right, it was gorgeous.

  • He sings it at the start as written, most do not Peerce was another who started out piano with it, nice. He sings this one with beauty all the way

  • Grande mario...que voce !!!
