The dad "wanted his son to look like him" is not the true reason. The true reason is that those fathers are emotionally incongruent and never faced their true feelings about their own involuntary mutilation. @Castalis011, only the USA, Jews and Moslems are fixated on circumcision. Here in Europe, Christians do not circumcise. Circumcision is considered bizarre in Europe (and most of the world). Don't subject babies to it! Foreskin is complex, sexually functional TISSUE that is there for a reason! The New Testament says that circumcision "has no value" (read St. Paul's letter to the Galatians).

I think that a purpose of circumcision has been to encourage divisions between people. Where there are physical differences between groups there is an increased chance that they will have difficulty interacting, there will be jealousy, mistrust e.t.c. and ultimately they will be more likely to go to war with each other. i agree. the foreskin does not prevent urination. If it was indeed long, you have been deprived of something that would of given you enjoyment and pleasure. The foreskin rarely needs removing. Most issues can be resolved by less invasive methods.

The true reason is that those fathers are emotionally incongruent and never faced their true feelings about their own involuntary mutilation. I live in america. went to my general doctor today and i asked him if its normal that when my penis is fully erect i cant pull the skin all the way back because the tip is too enlarged. he said that it wasnt and gave me a refer to an urologist to discuss my options and that i might need to get a circumcision. as a personal rule i avoid sharp objects near my crotch. i can ejaculate just fine, i can pee just fine and i always clean it. unless absolutely necesary im not getting anything cut.

I'm anti or pro circumcision. I definitely do not believe that circumcision leave one incomplete, deformed, or in anyway diminished. I mean, really. My only problem with circumcision is that it should only be performed with the informed consent of the person on whom the procedure is being performed. It's a civil rights thing. No body has the right to force another person, male or female, to submit to this procedure. It is just that simple.

Im pretty young and I hate my parents....they were supposed to care for and nurture me but they got me DISECTED against my own free will.....i got a past of my OWN ANATOMY TAKEN FROM ME my parents didnt need to do that and my skin wasnt theirs to take....im trying foreskin restoration with some hope of feeling a bit more natural and complete.....instead of feeling butchered at birth by order of my own parents....

Its because of the bull crap lies that it prevents std's, %70 of American men are circumcised yet the US still has one of the highest rates of std's. In ages past where hygiene wasn't what it is today, women didn't shave there legs, shute just 150 years ago taking a shower every day was unheard of, bible days they were n the hot desert they needed it then. Today hygiene is different, u can teach ur boys to clean themselves every day. And if for some reason u can't take a shower, use the sink.

You just have to make sure you clean it tipically more than once a day using anti bacterial soap this will kill the bacteria growing in the folds and such causing less if any smell. SO MAKE SURE YOU WASH!

Why do Americans circumcise?
1. Prejudice (against the male foreskin)
2. Ignorance (about the physical pain, loss and psychological damage)
3. Fear (of being "different" or having to deal with something unfamiliar)
Someone once said that the opposite of courage in our societyis not cowardice, but conformity. Just following the herd, because that's what's expected. That's the "easy" option.
I'm glad to see a woman taking a more intelligent stance and asking valid questions of this sick ritual.

Circumcised guys will give you hell about it, because they are different, or as they say 'normal'. i grew up being ashamed of my penis, and never played sports in school, and was terrified of fooling around with girls for fear of their reaction towards my 'weird looking' penis. @Castalis011, only the USA, Jews and Moslems are fixated on circumcision. Here in Europe, Christians do not circumcise. Circumcision is considered bizarre in Europe (and most of the world). Don't subject babies to it! Foreskin is complex, sexually functional TISSUE that is there for a reason! The New Testament says that circumcision "has no value" (read St. Paul's letter to the Galatians).

@tylorh26, the New Testament says circumcision has "no value". It is no more Christian to be circ'd than it is to abstain from pork and shellfish. St. Paul says in Galatians 5:2: " if you receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing." Further on, Paul likens circumcision to mutilation:
"I just wish that those troublemakers [i.e. the Jews] who want to mutilate you by circumcision would get castrated!" (Galations 5: 12). That's the only piece of humour you'll find from St. Paul!

You are right that it is not your choice as a baby, and that is one of the many reasons why it should not be done to babies. It is your choice, however, whether you choose to do this to your own son/s, and whether you support it or not.

Youtube has plenty of videos of men discussing foreskin. And most people commenting on the issue tend to be male.

It's savage, a dirty old man cuts the skin off a babies penis with no anesthetic and sucks the blood from the penis, that's how the Jews do it don't they? The foreskin is basically mostly nerves, I'm sure using no anesthetic is a great feeling to a newborn.
For health reasons I can see why, but only if there's something "wrong" with it as you get older. Why cut off something that's perfectly healthy when they're still babies? Might as well do mastectomies because there MIGHT be cancer later on.

I think that a purpose of circumcision has been to encourage divisions between people. Where there are physical differences between groups there is an increased chance that they will have difficulty interacting, there will be jealousy, mistrust e.t.c. and ultimately they will be more likely to go to war with each other. War = $£.

It's very disturbing to know that you will never have the experience of a full body. It makes you hate the world around you and the family you grow up with. I really hope there will be a day when there will be a full foreskin reconstruction using cellular matrix technologies, all 20,000 nerve endings. But somehow I don't know if it will happen. :(

Circumcision of a normal healthy boy or man serves no medical purpose. It removes many sexual nerves. In general it should be as much a crime as female circumcision.

@HeidiSaid hey heidi. i'm from england so i dont know if this is the case in the states, but when i was about two years of age, my foreskin became too tight and blew up like a balloon, so they had to chop it off. i dont know if they could have done anything else to save it haha. Interestingly though my friend who is 22 i believe now, had his foreskin removed at the age of 19! this was due to his foreskin being too tight and actually physically hurting him during sex. i hope thats of any help!

i agree. the foreskin does not prevent urination. If it was indeed long, you have been deprived of something that would of given you enjoyment and pleasure. The foreskin rarely needs removing. Most issues can be resolved by less invasive methods.

3 - just tell the kid he will have an uncut penis when he grows old. Thats not really a lie because:
a) if he want, he MAY do the surgery when he is older, if he wants to look like daddy.
b) the skin will retract, and most uncut dicks look like cut dicks when erect or you just pull the skin.
In other words, an uncut dick can look like a cut dick if the "owner" so wishes. A cut dick cant look like an uncut one :)
