i've been using both....... and i would say that GIMP is better, why? cause photoshop people get paid to be the best and in GIMP there is just a bunch of good coders that wanted free stuff and made GIMP so... when you get paid to do things then it sure be good, but when it comes from dedication and free time it just not that good, but things i can do i GIMP are things i do in photoshop too, only that GIMP 2.6 i understand it more than photoshop but photoshop 1 step things that in gimp are in 3

They're both great programs.

Having paid hundreds for Photoshop CS4 I will still say I do not miss it when I work on a Linux machine and GIMP is the only option.

PS: Some refinement in implementation of tools, some specialty features for industry. If you do enough work on many images, and are a professional in a certain field, the price of admission is worth it.

GIMP: Free. Free. Available for any major OS. Renders Photoshop unnecessary for most. Open source = updates

photoshop was made first, but it looked nothing like what it does today. so gimp didnt really rip it off. the original release of gimp was in 1996 and photoshop in 1988. they looked nothing like each other. but all image editors have to look similar, and photoshop isnt free or open source. photoshop has more effects, and gimp is easier to use. in my opinion, GIMP IS BETTER :D :D :D :D :D
