  • @stephaniebarash they are very well known. :D lol.

  • ah yes teh good ole days

    MTV was real and music

    kicked ass!

  • edward cullen brought ME here lol

  • when i was 13 this song resonated in my mind as something kind and reminded me of this girl years later she turned out to be a soul stealing succubus... i looked this song up again after all the years and realized what its really talking about... he's right i shoulda killed that BITCH!!

  • eddie's version owned

  • ""It's just a story I heard long ago; it's just a really cool, eerie lake, and some stuff I heard and some stuff I just make up. I tend to do that. They dammed up this big river up there, and it's got all these spooky names like Hell's Gate. It's really cool." -Todd Lewis (the guy singing right now)

  • Anybody remember watching them at the Engine Room off Vickery in FTW for $2.00 at the door and they loved our "novelty item" fake Louisiana IDs when we were 15-16 yrs old? Kick ass. I'd do it again, and again, and again....

  • Arlington Heights rulz, state baseball champs 1996 we were

  • Fucking dumb people I swear... This song is about a rape/murder that happened at a lake in Texas called POSSUM KINGDOM. Jesus Christ stop seeing things that aren't actually there!!!!

  • It's not about vampires watch the music video -_-

  • I do not know what you people are thinking or talking about in relation to the song's meaning. There has never been any mystery to it after listening to the lyrics, seeing the music video, and listening to the band being questioned about the song.

  • Its about a guy with an unstable love for a woman/women, and probably many women, who takes them out to lake to get know them and perhaps seduce them, and then at some point snaps/lashes out and kills them. As far as I can tell he kills her/them because he is looking for something so deeply meaningful to himself inside of this/these person/people that it drives him crazy when he can't see it or stops being able to see it within them, and so they cease to be his angel or alive. Fin.

  • This song has always been one of my favorites but always been in arguments about its meaning.....I say it's about "vampires" bit no one agrees!

  • @bradkf70 I've always thought it was sung from the perspective of a vampire too. I said that to some friends last week and it had never occurred to them.

  • This has been one of my favorite songs but I always get in arguments about what it is about......

  • bassist rockin' a Stars jersey...hell yeah

  • Oh shit! When did Lance Armstrong have a band!?!?

  • @E139486 JAJAJAJAJAJJAJAAJAJJAJAJAJAJAJAJAAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJ

  • The most under rated singers ever!

  • I didn't realize I loved this song until years after it was out. Guess it grew on me.

  • I didn't know Lance Armstrong was the lead singer for The Toadies

  • @goblues03 LMFAO

  • Queen of stone age sounds similar I wonder if same people..

  • I am no musical expert, but I believe late 90s Mötley Crüe was possible (at least partly) because of this band. Perhaps the Crüe guys should one day play one of the Toadies songs as a belated thank you.

  • Sweet, it's Danny McBride on drums!

  • saw them in ft. myers florida about this same time, fucking awesome show. saw them with god lives underwater

  • Comment removed

  • i heard this on the radio today and was like whoa this band is actually doing something different and sounds really refreshing! i got home really exited to look up the band and was some what disappointed to find out that this came out in the 90's. of course that made perfect sense because it does have the feel of that era and but to think that if this came out as a new song today and still sound fresh says something about this song, two thumbs up still glad i found it

  • love the song :D so underrated. plus its funny to watch the drummer. he looks bored/stoned out of his mind.

  • Needs* oops

  • All u you homos sayin this song "rocked" and "grunge is dead" news to wake up. This shit will never fade out in my book . Saw them last year here in Houston at house of blues. I grew on this . I will see them till there dead. Might I add they still put on a sick Ass show

  • Toadies were my first concert. They play so well live it's incredible. I've only seen about a dozen big bands play but I've seen the toadies 3 times and they played the best live.

  • this song kicked ASS

  • THIS VIDEO ROCKS.IM 39 AND I STILL JAM THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!

  • @4mydoors OOO YEAH THE MUSIC HEART NEVER GETS OLD!

CONGRATULATIONS AND GRETTINGS FROM MEXICO DF

  • @4mydoors so

  • kinda nervous aint e...its cute its still classic toadies original lineup...YEEAAHHH!...sadly i was too young to go their show in DALLAS cuz FT>WORTH kinda sucks...bye

  • It's not about what the song *originally* meant. Music is like religion, more specifically, The Bible:

You take away whatever parts make you feel good about yourself.

You pretend the bits you don't like don't exist. (about infanticide, genocide, slavery, etc,)

  • i am hearing different things. some say this song is about vampires, some say a badass serial killer, some say incest... and one said they read an article where the band said it was about a story they heard. idk.... what do you think?

  • @charityH7 it's about a badass incestuous vampire that the band heard about

  • @beanhouse55 that fits the serial killer idea too.

  • @charityH7 yeah a serial talkshow rapist cannibal

  • I think some of these guy's worked at the old Sound Warehouse on Camp Bowie Blvd in Fort Worth back in the 80's and 90's

  • @dabbski no! the drummer did not die!!!!!!!!!!! he is still alive and well! he is still playing with them!

  • Did the drummer died?

  • Lisa...babe you sure are one of thw most rocking babes I have ever seen...hats off to you babe.

  • Still love them after all these years, going to see them perform tonight in SA

  • Still love them after all these years, going to see them perform tonight in SA

  • edward current brought me here lol

  • @erlcly02 That's hilarious! I had the words "my sweet angel" stuck in my head this morning and I had no idea where they came from, so I did some searching online, and when I found this song I realized: "Oh yeah, eddy did a cover of this!"

  • Went to College in Tyler, Texas. Remember this like it was yesterday. Great song!! Awesome voice!!!

  • Yeah the lead guitarist can play, but what's up with the tucked in pants?

  • @runemason who cares lol

  • NO ONE GIVES A FUCK ABOUT HOW OLD YOU ARE

  • @jbraith1 that's right! / NO ONE GIVES A FUCK HOW OLD YOU ARE !!!!!

  • It does not get much cooler than this!

  • where was this recorded?

  • @britboy1327 looks like it was for the mtv show 120 minutes.

  • is that lance armstrong?

  • This song is so awesomee

  • Lol lots of whammy

  • @Kenny2k08 you have heard the song before right? how else do you think they got that sound?

  • classic.....need more bands like this...

  • original guitarists ftw!

  • He'd go out of his way to be seen, and everyone is like armed to the teeth, and he's like tapping on windows. The whole family was freaked out about it."

  • Lewis went on to say that there was a real stalker in Tyler, Texas who became a folk hero: "I was down there for Thanksgiving, and after the family got through talking about who died and who's got cancer and all those things that families talk about, they started talking about this guy who was peeping in windows and started breaking into people's houses.

  • In a 1995 interview with RIP magazine, Toadies lead singer Todd Lewis said: "It's just a story I heard long ago; it's just a really cool, eerie lake, and some stuff I heard and some stuff I just make up. I tend to do that. They dammed up this big river up there, and it's got all these spooky names like Hell's Gate. It's really cool."

  • @swampfun1415 there really was a murder at Possum Kingdom Lake in Texas in the 90s.

  • Whenever I sing toadies I do so in a fake exaggerated texas accent. It is fun as I am from new jersey so well you know, it's entertaining.

    An accent makes anything better.

When I realize stuff like this isn't around anymore it makes me realize living in the future is nowhere as fulfilling as remembering the past. LIfe was so much more rich and awesome when new music like this was coming out.

I like lady gaga but IT DOESNT EVEN COME CLOSE to touching the awesomeness of early 90s rock.

  • 90's.....awesome music......really crappy clothing......

  • @nickhernandez11 wouldn't have it any other way...

  • these guys were awesome and i think are underrated due to the fact that almost all of their songs are good and should have gotten more notice then they did. instead they were more of a little brother to the rest of the big 90s bands at the time.

  • How come 90s bands were all about the girl bass players?

  • Toadies = Truth

  • Hey, I just read some comments and am sorry if I "interpreted" the lyrics as being somewhat "vampirish" (my word). However, I am definitely NOT an idiot. I just heard this song TODAY. I grew up in the 70's, 80',s and 90's, but had not heard of this great band. Since the song mentions the girls staying forever beautiful and her skin forever white and her hair forever black, you could understand why some people, not familiar with the band, would give have a vampire take on it.

  • Ok, I am sooooo "behind". I just heard this song this morning on my car radio and I love it! I love the lyrics! It's like a really cool vampire love song. They got back together in 2008 and have a new CD out.

  • @maryfbex It is a great song, but it has nothing to do with vampires xD

  • @the idiot who said its about vampires....the toadies aren't stephenie meyer fanfags, they have better shit to do than sing about vampires. dont get me wrong, vampires are amazing, but they don't sparkle. The toadies are more occupied with the important things...like writing about kidnapping a crush, killing her, and then nercophilia.

  • @navyfolife so... his dark secret is a penis? cool!

  • Killer performance... Killer track. Just superb all around. =D

  • sounds JUST like the studio version, awesome job

  • Justin Bieber

  • I hate that pop bullcrap n' everyone my age (14) loves I wish they made more grunge music like the foo fighters and nirvana

  • @RougeTemplar don't assume you know what everyone your age wants you cock

  • @RougeTemplar You're pretty dumb then, it doesn't get more pop than foo fighters.

  • @AEgamesFtw lol sorry Foo Fighters isn't pop

  • @RougeTemplar hell yeah man!! Rock On!!!

  • @RougeTemplar OMG same thing with me! Everybody calls me old cause I listen to Nirvana,Foo Fighters,Jimi Hendrix etc. And I every time I mention that this generation sucks (its true look at the music and how other kids act) all the kids get pissed. :( If only Kurt Cobain was alive. If he was, everybody would listen to rock. No doubt.

  • @RougeTemplar i hear you man!!

  • @RougeTemplar The days of grunge are ending my friend :( it sucks, i'm 20 and i grew up listening to some good 90's rock (and everything from the 60's on up). now music is taking a fat shit on itself.

  • @RougeTemplar grunge basically was pop for a while

  • @RougeTemplar They do make more, you're just not gunna find it on the radio.

  • @RougeTemplar Check out Metallica's Load and ReLoad album

  • @RougeTemplar dude, stop bein so hostile. great band. comin from an old scool of everything

  • @RougeTemplar foo is grunge?

  • its about vampires dumbass.

  • @hansoloromana actually its not. its about raping and killing girls. maybe you should check up on things before you make yourself look like an asshole.

  • Pretty sure this song is about kidnapping a girl, raping and klling her. Nice!

  • I thought that was Lance Armstrong for the first seconds of this vid..

  • You say Taylor Swift,I say Breaking Benjamin

You say Lady Gaga,I say Nirvana

You say T-Pain,I say Three Days Grace

You say Demi Lovato,I say Fuel

You say Jonas Brother,I say Green Day

You say Flowers,I say Puddle of Mudd

You say Justin Bieber, I say 3 doors down

92% of teens have turned to pop and hip-hop.If you are part of the 8% that still listens to real music, copy and paste this message to 5 other videos. DONT LET ROCK N ROLL DIE ! Thumbs Up If You Agree

  • @eljoker913 rock and roll is never gonna die..i think teens just like pop just because "its the thing to like" and a youtube comment isnt gonna keep rock alive

  • @eljoker913 Most of those supposed "rock bands" you mentioned are just as awful as the pop music you are trying to ridicule. And where did you get that idiotic statistic? Bands like fuel and 3 days grace are harder to listen to then lady gaga or taylor swift. At least those pop stars arent trying to be something they are not. Those rock bands are over-produced, fake, moronic, unoriginal, and useless. try to develop some good taste before you go around putting down others

  • Love this song...every one in my freshmen class looked at meeh funny wen i said i liked the toadies possum kingdom haha

  • the drumer is my dads cousin

  • @KYOKOnKITAproduction ya and hes my moms roomates friend..not really

  • Yup she gave it up to me just die part I need ha ha ha song is cool unlike sum girls

  • all rock should have this cool

  • @staticviewing

the guitars flat out ROAR at 2: 07 !

  • @haganprattmusician this guy couldn't be more right. Thank you

  • i was less than a year old...

  • thanks!

  • Yeah was it SNL

  • @wwefan101486 No.

  • Was this SNL?

  • @paulisawesome3 This was on 120 Minutes which was a television show dedicated to alternative music, originally airing on MTV from 1986 to 2000, and then on MTV's sister channel MTV2 from 2001 to 2003.

  • @Iao74185 Than what happened to it? OH YA! Far more superior shows like Jersey Shore and Cribs came along!! Of course everyone loves that more than good ol' 90's alternative/ grunge! *Sigh* It's all so depressing.......

  • Its to bad they got a little older. Some of there songs sound wierd when you see 35+ old guys singin the lyrics they do. They still rock the house.

  • underated rock.

  • @staticviewing well said, my friend.

  • I like the chick bass player representing their home state of Texas with that jersey. If you're ever in Waco, check out the Possum Kingdom dam, which is on the Brazos River which flows right by town. Very cool place.

  • I hate how they keep switching the view of the camera angle.

Just angle it at the singer, nobody wants to see anyone else in the band

  • @TheAlexhansen i hate when they only show the singer. as a musician that appreciates the song in its entirety and all the different parts, it's really fucking annoying when the singer gets all the attention.

  • @TheAlexhansen I disagree. I love The Toadies. That means all members of The Toadies, not just Todd Lewis ;)

I'm glad they switch camera angles to show all of them playing their part, because thats what true fans want to see.

  • One of my all time faves ! My friends' local band "The Pwells" does an awesome cover of this ... and I go crazy every time!

  • im not going to lie i love this band p.s . 4 retards that need no thumbs forever make up your mind etc.

  • Amazing live performance, auto tune has destroyed the music of today imo that and record companies hiring no talent idiots. Go watch Alicia Keys superbowl performance and have a laugh

  • This Song Is A W E S O M E !!!

  • Be my angel behind the boathouse and dont worry Ill be your jump off. I do have the mentality of a man but a fine cougar I am, wouldnt no wat hit him..............

  • The Toadies are still cranking out great music and tour constantly

  • he looks like brett favre and travis barker put together.

  • @ilikecake97 holy cow he does hahaha

  • if u dont like this your already dead.

  • holly crap 15 years

  • God, this song is awesome! I love his voice. Why don't they ever celebrate 90's music? It's always the 80's. I'm sick to death of the 80's. 90's music is one of the best since the 60's. Can you say Nirvana? Pearl Jam? Spin Doctors? Okay, that's a stretch. But I like them anyway.

  • @edjucat

check out a 90s band named

    MOGWAI

  • @LegPains

I listened to some Mogwai. I have mixed feelings. I think the music is gorgeous! But at the same time, it made me feel melancholy and a little blue. I would tend not to listen to them because of that. But I sure do appreciate their talent. Kind of reminds me of The Alan Parsons Project. Thanks for the suggestion. Always like to hear new music. Well... new to me, anyway.

  • @edjucat

Listen to a song by Mogwai called LIKE HEROD

  • Mmm gotta love that whammy

  • the singer reminds me of daniel tosh!! haha probly because ther both freekin awesome!!

  • iv seen the toadies twice... best fucking rock show iv ever seen. their sound guys know exactally what there doing, and the toadies and 100% solid /,,/ they are old ass dudes and they still replicate perfectly

  • @ExplosiveNutSack

Listen to those hard edged distortion loaded guitars just flat out ROAR at 2:07 !!!!

    AMAZING SOUND

  • aw man i am a mid 90's guy and i admit that the mid 90's we're one of the worst time for rock music and for most bands, i mean this is also the time when big record labels started noticing rock music again as marketable but...ehhhh, it's a good thing but it kind of didn't work out,

  • I love seeing videos like this of a band that i love. they look like a garage band and now look where they as artists. its something that i hope to accomplish as a musician

  • i was only 3 at the time of this recording, but i remembered the song and immediately fell in love again

  • The only problem w/this, is, it's almost impossible to produce anything like this again -- this song is genius!

  • that sounded just like the track!

  • Screams 90s to me, and that's a good thing. Sad that you'll never hear new music that sounds like this though.

  • One of the best songs of the 90s, wat happened to the toadies cuz im not a really much of a fan(i really only kno this song) did they have like one hit song and they were done?

  • @GzusofSurburbia They had six singles off this album, this being the biggest, then they recorded a follow up album in '97, it was rejected by the record company so they had to reenter the studio and record a whole new album which didn't hit stores 'till 2001, by then their appeal was pretty much forgotten by radio. They are releasing the second album, with new recordings next month.

  • @GzusofSurburbia Every song on Rubberneck kicked ass, along with the demos before this, and the album after was pretty good too.

  • @GzusofSurburbia

The Guitars and their aggressive take no prisoners tone flat out ROARS here , what a performance !

Raw, gritty, Intense and POWERFUL !!!!!!
