You forgot the most important point, that in Oct. 1982, the government stopped making 95% copper pennies. These pre-83 pennies are now worth 2 1/3 cents EACH in copper value & have been as high as over three cents each. The newer pennies are worthless zinc, although with the rise in commodities even the zinc is worth more than what a penny can buy as our fiat currency is hyperinflated into nothingness

@j4user Sorry, they stopped making the steel plates after 1943. The '44 is made of bronze but is worth as much as a steel pennies.

again, the valuable copper penny is the 1943 copper penny, because all the rest were cast in tin/aluminum. Therefore, the copper pennies you have are not worth 250,000 dollars.

@weegeeluigi In 2006, the cost exceeded the face value to make a penny. Right now, a penny is worth a little bit under face value. Pennies from before 1982 are worth about 2 cents because of their higher copper content.

Most Pennies in 1909 are probably worth as much as Pennies in 2009.... $0.01 (1 cent)....but save them up... remember a "Penny Saved is a Penny earned".

What we mean is that your coin can be graded using those letters, but they can be graded without them.. Also, the 1909-S and 1909-S-VDB have different values(but this is only with those two coins).
