Parachutists often hit pockets of dead air, causing them to fall like that. That's why they always say those stunts with lots of people are so dangerous. The dude probably wasn't doing anything wrong - it just happens when you're falling from the sky.

ure as "dead air" because there is no relative wind. He came from behind them though so I don't think this happened.

2) The guy was wearing a freefly suit so it is more likely he had been sitflying or head down and had just come out of it. Generally you cork out on to your back (versus belly) as to avoid rapidly slowing down and colliding with people above you. 30 - 50mph difference in belly flying vs freeflying. Idk why he was over them though unless he didn't give them enough time after exit.

@scorchflam what i think happened was the dude that hit him was trying to catch up and was in a "head down" position, pointing your head towards the earth instead of your stomach. he has clearly flattened out to slow down but did so too late. you're right about pockets of air above other people. but this guy was going too fast i think for that

I remember the time we took my grandmother skydiving for her 75th birthday. We lifted her out of her wheelchair into the Cessna. She went out on a static line so her chute was opened automatically. It was a square ram-air chute, so it goes quite fast. She forgot how to stall it & she ended up hitting the runway hard & fast. It didn't really matter cuz she was already crippled in a wheelchair before jumping, so we were pretty chill about it all. There wasn't too much blood.
