America's economy nearly collapsed and when OPEC lifted the embargo they quadrupled the oil prices. If america wanted to use an alternative resource, they would have done it back then.

Thats quite alot for N. Vietnam

it doenst matter even if Iran has fishing boats. you obviously dont know how big this strait is. it doesnt take much for it to be blocked. they dont even need to block it, they can bomb any oil carrier going through it. if you listen to the speeches at the democratic and republican conventions both parties address this issue. they both believe its within Irans power to block the Strait. Plus it wont be Iran alone. Iran has better alliances in the region. Who does the US have? Israel, thats it.

who do we have in the region as allies? Pakistan, Israel (who happens to be the most powerful), Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. as for bblocking the strait, good luck, you'll need it. incidently, it would probably push us into finding an alternative fuel source (be the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak), which would actually be great for the US and the world. so on second thought, go ahead and do it. it would get worse at first, but it would eventually be WAY better.

Pakistan and Saudi cant do shit, Israel is too hated by Iran's allies and Iraq is currently screwed up. blocking the strait will not push you into finding an alternative fuel source. After the Yom Kippur war OPEC stopped all shipments of oil to the US causing mass panic and inflation as well as high in oil prices. America's economy nearly collapsed and when OPEC lifted the embargo they quadrupled the oil prices. If america wanted to use an alternative resource, they would have done it back then.

we have a different mind set nowadays than we did back then. besides, we already ARE switching to better sources. and better technology (hydrogen back then was known as part of a bomb, now its known more for its potential to replace gas/oil) and you will never believe me when i say america will win the same as i will never believe you when you say Iran will win, until we actually have a war, which will never actually happen (congress has no plans for war and bush's term is almost up)
