I never knew robbed trained with you guys i worked out with him over the summer at 24 hour fitness i know he wanted to play football for unlv did he ever end up training with you guys again?
Hello. Just came across your videos and I like what I see. My son is 16 and he plays football. We've done some of these lifts when he was in this sst program, but we havent been able to afford it for some time now. We have weights at home and wanted to know a routine I can have him do to get stronger. His former coach used to emphasize overhead squats a lot, but he was 13 and 14 at the time. Just trying to get him strong. Thank for the vids.
Hi Broz, was hoping I could get your take on this: my coaches tell me that the bar should be away from the shins @ starting position. They told me that you should only be able to see the tips of your toes over the bar (4-5" away!)... everywhere I've looked says otherwise (bar against shins > clear the knees > hips extend/2nd pull etc. etc.) -- they're quite insistent that I "correct" this "fault" eventually. It's the only OL gym in my area, too.
@SportPacific dont listen to that, you should keep the bar as close to your body as possible for the duration of the lift.. just curious what gym are you at? what credentials do your "coaches" hold?
@SportPacific LOL. they are the reason more people suck at the lifts. The advice they gave you is 100% non-productive. You are using common sense they obv lack! When is heavy lifting easier? When it's 1' away from you or as close as possible?
Also, how can you EVER lift a bar that weighs more than you if its not over your base? haha. Retards.
Coach Broz, a few questions. I see that his feet never leave the ground, is that a technical fundamental or is that personal preference? When I clean, my feet pretty much always leave the ground. Also, how do your guys have such amazing flexibility to be able to catch such a heavy weight that low? I believe my flexibility is what is keeping me from catching a 340 lbs clean as I am able to get the bar plenty high enough and I have a 380 lbs front squat however I bail every time at the bottom.
Pulling yourself under a heavy clean is something that takes courage and practice. If you keep bailing out, then stop doing that and commit to making the lift, no matter what. Those are the attempts that turn average lifters into champions.
@BROZKNOWS I finally completed my lift last night, just posted the vid. It was all mental and just a matter of me not being scared to get under that bar. Thanks for the advice.
Super impressive! Question for Broz: Do kids that are already strong and competing flock to your gym to peak their performance or are these numbers more a result of kids who have been working specifically with you for a long period of time? I'm only curious because you have SO MANY strong kids and adults lifting at your gym...it's awesome!
@BROZKNOWS I definitely assumed everyone there worked very hard, I was just curious with a dude like Pat Mendes if he had already been lifting for a while and then came to you guys, or if you got a hold of him when he was like 12 and worked with him in that capacity. I just see the future of USA Olympic lifting when I see you videos and it makes me excited so I wondered how the sport was growing, strong kids that find the sport later, or heavy youth involvement. Either way I love all the videos!
@philt4141 When Pat came 3 years ago, he didn't know what a squat clean, jerk, or snatch was. Pretty much goes for all the young guns. The dinosaurs (including myself) already had a pretty firm grip on the lifts, now we push each other in teams - young guns vs. old studs. Thanks for watching.
@popanth4r Cheaters clean??? Have you ever watched an Olympic Weightlifting competition, like, I don't know, the OLYMPICS?!?! Please don't spout off asinine things like that...if even one person read your comment and actually thought you knew what you were talking about...weightlifting would be worse for it.
@klbo08 not in the making. we are focusing on the American Open instead. Its gonna be a great meet. Lots of talented guys in that class for a change!
@BROZKNOWS Rob looked very strong at the American Open, I hope his injury is not as serious as I've been hearing. I do want to continue seeing him improve.
@jonathan1871 hey man i used to have bad knees UNTIL i started squating deep and doing power cleans. used to bother me just walking around all day. it took a year but now they are bulletproof. work them up there
@jonathan1871 Kind of like 7 months late but I had pretty serious patellar tendinitis for about a year and none of the shit the doctor gave me worked. Then I started squatting deep and I haven't had any pain since.
I notice his feet don't leave the ground at all. while pat jumps and his feet leave ground usually quite bit more and usually jumps back slightly-like naim did- How do you teach the clean? Jump or not? I figure jump caused by a more aggressive second pull.
Great lifting it looks easy. His knees seem to come up so high realtive to his body, so he has to keep his elbows even higher to clear them! I guess its because he sits in so deep on the catch.
Rob gets under the bar incredibly fast, he is also seems to be able to catch the clean much deeper than Pat. You have a video of him jerking 182.5 kg and now a video cleaning 200kg. I wonder what he is truely capable of.
John what do you consider a "decent" clean and clean&jerk for a 17 year old at 5'9" 175ish?
