If anyone wonders, I do believe what Prof. Lewin is perhaps referring to in the end is the afterimage effect caused by overstimulating the cone cells at the retina with a specific color, rendering them less sensitive for a little while. Removing the stimulating color and looking at a white area will give the illusion of seeing the inverse color in the areas previously overstimulated. This works for rod cells sensitive to illumination too.
