  • how old is this?

  • @quagleskarff Since 1943.

  • Germany was so ashamed after ww2 they did not display their country's flag until the 2006 olimpics

  • @Narwus98 - Not true. The flag the Germans use is the pre-Nazi flag. Remember, the Nazis had a completely different flag, which was red with a white circle inside and a black swastika inside the circle. The pre-Nazi flag had red, yellow & black with a German eagle in it, which was used by East Germany after the war, and was used by the unified nation after the Velvet Revolution in 1989. West Germany had an almost-identical flag, but without the eagle.

  • 1:53 he said WTF and because popeye said heil h

  • At the end, when Popeye toots his pipe 4 times in a "da-da-da-duuum" rhythm like Beethoven's 5th, that was the morse code signal for "V" (. . . -). Any viewer at the time would have recognized that as a symbol for "V for Victory"

  • How can it be on Cartoon Network if it is banned then?

  • did they really have cartoon network back then o.o??

  • The only place that banned this were the AXIS Nations. They put these cartoons on every screen across the USA and other places. They also found there way to Germany Japan etc., intentionally.

  • Some countries ban Nazi Paraphernalia of any kind and even movies, cartoons and games featuring any Nazi Paraphernalia. For example, when they made that movie with Tom Cruise about 3-4 years ago, they had to get special permission from the government of Germany for all the Nazi Symbols and stuff used for scenes shot in Germany, because that is one of the countries where it is banned. It may also be banned in England too, but I am not 100% certain of that, I do know it's banned in Germany.

  • LOL 05:53 Popeye ending up on the front door of P.M. Churchhill . No. 10 Dowing Street is where the Prime Minster is located.

  • Hahaha.

  • Is this banned? I mean, Cartoon Network started to work in 1992........

  • dude this is a stupid reasson fot banning this i mwan there not advertising the nazi's and hitler and shit there makeing fun of it. i think there's a difference

  • @HotOnTuesday

The government paid for the cartoon and did everything short of require theaters to play these.

TV Stations felt, rightly so, that these cartoons should not be played with the other non-propaganda versions since children would not likely understand the context. You don't want a 5 year old running around smacking other kids saying Heil Hitler.

  • 4 elements relating 2 da 12 Zodiac.

  • humans took a Major evolutionary step, we must NEVER FORGET.!. the 10-12 Million Souls. had the axis won, this cartoon would have never been made in German. glad I have what rights I have left. Look up F.D.R.'s economic 2nd bill of rights, & the losers of ww2 came out ahead. oh, yeah.,. & Popeye took down dat sub w/ 1 can. did you see how mny he had left,?. + he was pumped up on Pea soup. he wasn't done by a damn sight. Sux da swastika was bastardized, it was originally a teaching of the 4 ele

  • in Nazi Germany bird shoots you

  • Why was this banned? Did somebody get slapped or something? You know how people used to trip about violence in cartoons back then...

  • @YungReg88

No, they put BANNED since they don't play these on TV anymore. Then again, they don't play any good cartoons anymore. Also, BANNED, gets people to watch. We have no BANNED materials in the USA except stuff like child porn.

  • @haitipi: Yea, you're right about that. Unfortunately Spongebob is one of the last great ones.

  • @YungReg88

OK, I do love SpongeBob SquarePants. Other than that, I don't care for the newer cartoon programs.

  • @YungReg88 it was because popeye said heil hitler.

  • @YungReg88 What kind of question is this?... Are you serious?

  • @YungReg88 did you not even notice the nazis???

  • hahahahaha at 1:48 he says "ehhh what the fuck put in them holes...."

  • @blootoons Hahaha, I heard that too, it's funny, I remember when I was a kid, my uncle making Popeye references I didn't understand.

YEARS later, it hit me, and I LMAO.

  • hahahahaha at 151 he says "ehhh what the fuck put in them holes...."

  • "That's the way to swast" ,the swastika!"

  • Popeye VS Hitler! The winner is POPEYE!

  • ....awstruck.....

  • Popeye saying Hail Hitler? Childlife = Raped.

  • @c0d3w0rd He's using it sarcastically.

  • @neoprankster I know but that kind of thing in any context still results in childlife being raped. :P

  • I don't think this is banned.

  • why ban this? Come on...where is the offensive material?

  • why ban this?

  • That Popeye's gotta pretty cute ass.

  • @ysbaddaden2003 You REALLY need to get laid..

  • popeye was a nazi?

  • @t0x1c2009 no

  • hahaha my social studies teacher is makin me watch this for homework cuz its propaganda. this is some funneh shit tho!! hahahha xD

  • "Stow Stow: Heil Hitler!"

  • hahaha how stupid you germans can be blowing out fellow german subs then say shtun stu heil hitler fuck you people

  • Can't understand why this would be banned.

  • @furtherdefinitions because this cartoons has naizi soldiers

  • @furtherdefinitions because its propaganda

  • I actually forced myself to like spinach because of Popeye as a kid. Spinach salad is my favorite side. I wont get cancer because of a cartoon lol.

  • Cartoons these times dont measure up to what is displayed now. Such as the old Popeye cartoon back then were more nostalgic then they are nowadays. Notice in this cartoon that Olive was nowhere to be seen. The network executives probably had something to do with that. I also enjoy the scene where they were upside down or as one of them put it, downsize up. Pretty cool.

  • Cartoons in early days had adult inuendos and matter because parents had to sit and watch them in theaters with their kids. The makers could entertain the kids, who missed all the adult stuff, but also have fun or make a message/opinion. The Hollywood on Parade - I think a Merry Melody was very funny, Clark Gable with Dumbo ears. But these get banned because they fear anti-German, Japanese, etc., propaganda will stick, NOT PC!

  • great cartoon. i can´t stop to laugh about it. *thumbs up*

  • 1:07 Epic fail.

    STOU STOU HEIL HITLER!

  • stab stou

  • why did they send spinach to Britain? all they would have to do is send Chuck Norris.

  • The reason it is banned was they don't wan you to realize 'spinach' is slang for 'HEMP'

  • If this was banned then why is there a modern Cartoon Network logo in the lower right?

  • skon skull, Heil Hitler!!

  • I'm still trying to figure out why this would be banned?

  • @1seticat Wouldn't want to offend any Nazis....PC nonsense.

  • @pretorius 700 exactly, and its getting worse every day. I hope that when the history of the demise of the western world is written, that the real cause, PC behavior, aka (societal suicide) is appropriately blamed.

  • @1seticat

    has the swastika

  • "thats the way to swat the swatstika. ugugugug!"

  • This was on cartoon network? Holy shit.

  • Hollywood doing what it does best - churning out propaganda and covertly engineering consent.

    .

And outshouting the cooler, saner thinkers of the day:

    /watch?v=K_F48oaOskI

  • I remember seeing this on TV back in the 70s. Great stuff!

  • This was common, if not tame, for cartoons of the war years. If you are too young to remember or appreciate those years then this may be lost on you. Real armies and navies trying to murder the Allied nations. Not funny. But people did benefit from the mix of humor and seriousness represented here. I have no evidence that this cartoon has ever been banned. It is real history based on reality.

  • I speak American.

  • this was back when cartoons could take aim at the enemy now if spongebob would have poked fun at jihad or kim jong il people would bitch :( and omg he said wtf :O

  • hitler, nazi, saying what the fuck, no wonder this was banned.

  • he did he said what the fuck

  • How come this was banned it wasn't racist or anything

  • @Usernametobechanged the germans have ben trying to forget the nazies. it reminds people and makes them feel bad

  • Lol. Spinach.... My first thought was: HASH BRICKS.

  • lol them nazis are so stupid they killed there own teamates sub lol

  • @kyuubisharinan3296 It actually happened. A german ship called Doggerbank was sunk by a german submarine called U43 on March 3, 1943. There was only one survivor: Fritz Kürt.

  • yep he said what the fuck

  • @ 6:15 was that a nazi sub?

  • @realmomentsdotcom Yeah, but Fritz Kürt wouldn't find it funny.

  • This cartoon is fucking epic. LOL.

  • This cartoon was never banned.

  • why was that even banned; it was funny.

  • Popeye is my hero. It's because of him I like spinach so much ^^.

  • Dude's got his weed.

  • Did Popeye say WTF? Cartoons in those days were awesome.

  • sad part is those german u boats caused untold tragedy for much of the war...thankfully sonar and depth charges rendered them all but useless later in the war effort though

  • I hold a mdphdedpsychobgyngeneralnutter degree and am considered somewhat of an expert with Popeye's pronounced speech impediment and at 1:48 to 1:52 he DEFINITELY says "Well I... when the fuck did this... ho.. oh...Woodpeckers!"

and woodpeckers is a bloody good English cider made by Bulmers too :D GET DRUNMK AND WATCH POPEYE! schyuchschyuchschyuck.

  • Because downing street is anywhere near the sea

  • @Overfiend002 Oh, yes it is! Any excess water on Downing St. would empty into the storm drain. From there it would flow into the sewer. It would then travel to a central location. Then it would empty into the Thames. Finally, it would flow into the sea. See?

  • Schtunk-schtoo...heil hitler!

  • how is this cartoon banned if it's recorded from cartoon network?

  • OMG....He did say "What the F**k"...1:50...hilarious!

  • Hail Hitler hahaha!

  • the germans did a team killer becuse they sunk one of they own submarines

  • why people these days being racist?

in the future, there be no united nation.

    being nuking each other

  • There's an Iphone / iPod touch app out called "The Oldies". It features 24 cartoons including 12 Popeye cartoons. It turns your ipod into a dvd player. Absolutely hilarious. LOL! HAHAHA

  • 1:49

    WTF!!! JAJAJAJAJAJAJA

  • loook at both sides of the picture. Germans got fucked bigtime during World War 1....of course they were fucking angry with the Treaty of Versaille.

Japanese got fucked when the Great White Fleet forced open Tokyo harbor to american trade. a few decades later, they bomb pearl harbor in retaliation.

  • @Rac665 Japan and Germany instigated the wars in question. Japan preemptively attacked the U.S. not for any retaliation, but to simply weaken the U.S. military presence in the Pacific so they could expand their borders unhindered. They were already in an offensive war with Russia (our ally) and China. In the first World War, the alliance which included Germany made the first offensive.

  • @Rac665 And, yeah, the Germans attacked and caused undo hardships on several countries and therefore had to make severe reparations to those countries. They were basically sued for starting the war in the first place -- that's a clearer way of looking at it. Yeah, Germany was pretty much stripped bare because of their absolute abuse of power. They deserved it after what they did.

  • HAHAHA Heil Henkel. Taken from Charlie Chaplins The Great Dictator.

  • I know I shouldn't find this funny, but that honking sound that the two submarine nazis make when they re-enter their vessel gets me every time. Every time.

  • I dont't know why someone brought up the crap that happend centuries ago and put it in the same light that happend less than a century ago. If we can forigive germany in such a short time. I don't see why 1776 has to come up it happend a long time ago.

  • "A subtarine!"

  • lol.

the idiot nazis make me laugh.

    popeye rules.

  • "If I didn't have this cargo, I'd crack them nutzis!"

  • weren't these type of cartoons made for adults? I mean I grew up seeing them on SAT. mornings but I don't think they were designed for children originally.

  • Pause at 0:32 look at the sign.

Isn't that the sign for Nazis?

  • Comment removed

  • omg that was just wrong........but funny at the same time

  • Sozhl, actually it is you that is stupid. The Nazi party wasn't stupid at all. They almost took over the world. All this from a country smaller than the state of Montana. They probably would have been successful if they had not attacked Russia.

  • Did he say "what the fuck" at 1:50?"

  • shit your right

  • Nope

  • True

  • @thiscantbesustained lol i think he did !

  • @thiscantbesustained HAHHAA.. wow.. GOOD OBSERVATION.. I think he did!... That is hysterical

  • @thiscantbesustained of course not!

  • @thiscantbesustained Woodpeckers........

  • @thiscantbesustained "woodpeckers" not wtf lol

  • @thiscantbesustained didn't sound like it

  • @thiscantbesustained

    yeah, before he said "woodpeckers"

  • @thiscantbesustained your right it dose sound like what the fuck

  • @thiscantbesustained I believe he said "Ahh, woodpeckers?!"

  • @theblackrose496 Slightly before that he says it.

  • @thiscantbesustained lol yeah!!

  • @thiscantbesustained yes. He sure did.

  • @thiscantbesustained hahaha yeahh i thik so ..!!!

  • Cartoon Network used to show cartoons like this on Toonheads & late night black and white.

  • This made me laugh so hard..lol

  • It can't be banned if it was taped off the Cartoon Nertwork. lol

  • @anyoneforapint it was banned

  • I'm a wet stain because you're wrong? This Popeye episode isn't banned at all. It's a rare cartoon that isn't shown much and was first aired several years ago on the Cartoon network when all the old original Popeye episodes were shown for the first time on TV, except for a few episodes that had African American steorotypes which weren't shown. This episode wasn't censored nor banned.

  • why was this banned

  • The nazi imagry and stuff I guess.

  • It's propaganda showing nazis as very stupid (well, actually they were really stupid)

  • It's interesting that they would ban this, back in that day cartoons were for adults, plus animation was just as reputable as political cartoons.

I guess once the world shifted, everyone thought that cartoons were for kids only and made some changes, like banning this for instance. But you don't have to ban Family Guy apparently

  • Most of these cartoons that were banned were because of political incorrectness, racism, alcohol, tobacco and drug use.

I remember them airing the original uncut tom and jerry cartoons in the early to mid 90s and seeing reruns just a few months ago that were redubbed to remove the stereotypical black racism.

Family guy can get away with some of that stuff because they don't explicitly mention it and just allude to what's happening instead of showing it.

  • @jdog106 The world's shifted again.

  • Saw the movie about villianous Americans dropping nuclear bombs on Japan. 'S called "Godzilla".

  • How about the historical movies about Britian taking over every fucking country in site.

  • No shit. agreed.

  • damn nazis!

  • 1:08 haha! idiots

  • Lol whats funnier Cartoon Network(as said bottom right corner of screen) has been around since 1992...... I can only imagine where the kids who saw this are now.....

  • Why don't they make more cartoons like this to educate kids on the war on terror?

  • i've often wondered how our slant on history is played in the counties we demonize, albeit the nazi's are indefensible.

  • The Nazi dictatorship was indefensible. It created the situation were millions died. If ever there was a just war the fight against the Nazi's and Fascism was it. Only the Finns and the Baltic republics have any legitimate excuse for being allies of the Nazi's. With unprovoked Soviet provocations they had no alternative.

  • obviously, world war 2 nazism and fascism are indefensible. i will also admit america has done some indefensible things too.

or do you feel we can do no wrong? that "god" is on our side, as the saying goes.

do you think a hollywood movie depicting america as the villains who dropped nuclear bombs on innocent civilians would be accepted?

  • I just fuckin topped popeye. I took a whole pound of spinach and blended it in a blender with strawberries. Im fucking high on spinach right now.

  • lol. a spinach and strawberry smoothie gets you high?

  • Hell yea dude, all the damn antioxidants and crap sent me for a loop.

  • In my experience, when people describe a cartoon (or book or whatever) as "banned," they generally mean either that someone at some point chose to not show it at a given time and place because of its offensive content - not that it fell down the memory hole forever.

  • lol, "if i wasn't shippin this cargo i'd crack those nutzis" i love popeye

  • Ha, Ha, I really enjoyed this cartoon.

  • ppl have a better understanding about it now

  • For any eagle-eye viewer you will notice on the bottom right hand corner a "Cartoon Network" channel logo (Channel first established around 1992) so i doubt it is banned in the USA. The only country that bans anything related to the nazis (even in regards to non racist just everything no exceptions) is Germany.

  • i was bout to say tht then u sed it :P lool

  • almost correct -> there are exceptions like art including movies (not video games though) where swastikas and other nazi stuff can be shown as long as it is not some right wing propaganda that portraits the nazis as good guys - it's the same in austria btw and american movies on world war 2 are usually shown uncencored

  • >Right wing propaganda

    >Portraying Nazis as good

    Wat

  • since when do right-wings portray nazis as good?

  • popeye isnt banned

  • It was banned in the 70's, as I never saw it of Frisky Frolics.

  • this is obviously not banned seeing as it was shown not to long ago on cartoon network

  • maybe this one was banned because the US was supposed to be neutral in '40, and FDR was shipping supplies to Britain without Congress approval and was arming merchant ships. Still a historians debate on whether what he was doing was constitutional. Popeye got caught in the middle of it.

  • Nope. I watched this cartoon on TV in the 1950's. Merchant ships had to be armed, as they were easy prey.

  • 5:08 beh-bah-bah-beh-bah-bah-beh xD

  • they banned them because of propaganda, and it could have made the usa look bad, and im from the usa. however, im glad they have it on here, this one is funny

  • Now Teacher should up cartoon s like this instead of boring history bio videos... or at least put some kick ass war movie that works too ^^
