  • 75, two weeks to live, arthritis.....What's our excuse?

  • One of my all time musical heroes

  • God I loved this man's playing!

  • Anyone knows the name of the song which is playing while they ´re see off?

  • The music IS Zawinul. There's nothing like it. I mean how do you WRITE some of these songs? Inspiration from above comes to mind, As long as we are listening, he's alive as any of us.

  • That bassist....damn

Joe really knows who to pick

  • @AlexKalicinski The whole band, man... The whole band...

  • @AlexKalicinski From Mauritius.. :p currently one of the best bassit in the world.. Linley Marthe. Really proud being a Mauritian because of people like him..!! he is a god of the bass..!!!

  • Unbelievable music from a true master. He was on his way out when this was performed and it is really hard to tell. Quite a bass player making up for Jaco.

  • Last night on american idols the DIDJERIDU played a prominent role.

America was screeming what is this beautiful instrument

Joe Zawinul had used this since 1992 on his lost tribe album

  • Really REALLY IMPRESSIVE>>> sounds completely different from what i've ever heard...

  • No começo toca berimbau!!!

  • It's amazing that this awesome show was on 07-07-07. I always loved Weather Report and Joe Zawinul. What's so strange is that on 08-08-08, I saw another amazing band, Return to Forever, at the Palace Theater in Harlem. Joe, you have unfortunately returned to forever, but your music will live on and on. Peace.

  • Mr Zawinul calls this music GOOD MUSIC.I call it Joe Zawinul's music because it is not to compare

  • i just heard these guys what kind of music are they. the sound is very interesting to me

  • BAD ASS! RIP Joe.

  • Joe Zawinul taught me everything I know about haircuts.

  • Is 75 on DVD or just CD?

  • Both! On cd and DVD (just released). Most impressive is the bonus on the DVD, Zawinul and Wayne Shorter playing 'In a silent way'. It's moving to watch these two man meeting each other on stage. Just this piece makes it worthwhile buying the DVD.

  • Awesome! Thanks for the info. Off to buy a copy!

  • He looks so ill from 8:02 to 8:07, it fucking kills me.

Last time I saw him (2006 I think) we had a nice talk about his son Anthony who had come to see me play a few months earlier, about my hometown Perugia (which he really loved), and about "the sound" in general. I kept telling myself "This is Joe Zawinul, this is Zawinul..", although I had already spoken with him a couple of times prior to then.

I couldn't guess I was seeing him for the last time.

This man taught us everything. Peace.

  • a charming story...

    peace

  • Yeah I feel you there. I was lucky enough to see him at a NAMM show performance in 89 in Anaheim in 89 with Scott Henderson on guitar which was a life changing experience and later in roughly 2004 at the Hollywood Bowl which was sooo damn good that I was actually crying!!! For real! He was an amazing player and MD!

  • From some concerts in 2002 and 2007 you see big difference in his look.I was watching him here as one old man who is full with energy still,as a great teacher of life,as a human being which is ready to give all the best of himself until the end no matter what is going to happen'.Born great, died great! Our teacher of life, not just of music!!!

    RIP

  • i finally realized what this music makes me wanna do: get up on the satge and play, lol :)

  • he has to be the most modest prodigy ever. that performance was amazing and he hardly seems satisfied. if that was me performing i would be crowd surfing with champagne after that song.

  • It is evident in Mr.Zawinul face the disease he was facing however he has the courage to play as always. Wonderful music

  • hey Joe

  • Is there any video of "Nubian Sundance"? Id so, where?

  • Thank you Joe Zawinul. You gave us beautiful music that knew no boundaries. It embraced our planet and fused its many colours into a vibrant energy of pure joy.

  • Zawinul had only a few weeks left to live at the time of this performance (he was dying of cancer) but this is an incredible testament to his Spirit and Will. Zawinul is a genius and a musical visionary. Born and raised in Austria (under Nazi rule)- learned to play like Art Tatum, moved to the states and played with the top boppers and eventually developed his "One World" musical vision of unity. His was a profound journey. He lives forever.

  • @ninersboy92 with all my respect your music sitll lives in me, edwin

  • yo everybody, chill the fuck out and just enjoy the music.

  • I was there, amazing concert...zawinul rocked.

  • this video is cool it shows that music is no a matter of mere harmonical patterns but a question of heart. If you just listen to that bass line and drums you´ll understand what I´m talkin about. That´s zawinulism!!! Peace 2 Zimbabwe

  • this is excellent, but also sad because not long after that, he would pass away.

  • vanderterd go plug up a dyke in rotterdam , and to all the real fans we all lost a one of a kind human being joe is 75 in this video and the timing, and playing is superb

  • Badia is such a beautiful song! I just love the Ndugu singing part!!!

  • Copy cats? is that some kind of criticism? Joe WAS Weather Report - this is HIS tune! How can he be copying himself???? The Syndicate versions of this tune totally kick ass and after seeing WR 7 times, I would rather see this line up play this tune than anyone in the past.

  • its obvious your mother in holland did not love you very much.vanderTURD,YOU KNOW NOTHING OF THE late JOE ZAWINUL ,he loved all music of all over the world.look at the pure beauty of the people. why dont go watch charles manson videos, because hate that comes out of ones mouth is what you have in your heart.you are a sad person ,get help. look at that beautiful lady , go up to her and tell her copy cat ,, and , well you are lost

  • when I posted that I didnt know that that was joe in this video I thought it was someone trying to look like him that is why I said copy-cat, but now I know. You should be more respectful and try not to judge without knowing the full story :-)

  • dear sir if you even thought you knew weather report, you would have not writen such mindless dribble, and you SIR should take your own advice, please read your cartoon books. you will be less likely to show us all the short sighted mind of a sad person plus the playing is joeseph zawinul.a blind fan could tell you, vandershit

  • what is your problem wadiallahsalim i have only know about weather report for a few weeks, im not going to memorize what they look like and what all there names are.

  • hey bro i thought you were a friend of mine and we chase around good music so please forgive me sorry bro,SIR VANDERSNORTHOLSTER.PUES OTRO MANERA A DISIR TE, A TI TE HACE FALTA UNA BALA POR EL CABELLO adios,,,,,, chillstem lives, long live boogieillman

Another Eagle has flown ... Hope to see you in the City of Music ... the City of Jazz ...

I heard the Eagle's call, I heard the Eagle's Cry, across the Sky

  • thank you joe. you were simply wonderful man. RIP

  • Saw him in '77 with Jaco in the WR lineup. The 'far-out' sounds he made got me higher than anything I'd ever smoked ;-) Thank you Mr.Zawinul !

  • Thanks Joe !

  • I really enjoy Tangents..doing tribute show on 9.22. "Zawinul died this morning of skin cancer.. innovator, compositional genius and cross-pollinating pioneer. Weather Report led by Joe & Wayne Shorter (& later incl Jaco Pastorius) the most important world jazz fusion group of all time; recorded on 5 Miles Davis albums. innerviews-dot-org/inner/zawinul;" Tangents tribute, 9.22.07 10p-12a [PST] (91.7, kalw-dot-org) Dore Stein,Producer/Host, Sat, 8p-12a [PST] on KALW (91.7, SF) or webcast at KALW

  • Thanks Joe for everything!

    Peace

  • Thank you Maestro Zawinul. Your music lives. What an amazing musician!

  • Indeed it's a sad day - R.I.P. Joe

  • RIP Joe what a gift you gave us.

  • yes he is god

  • he is my all time fav musician-and i play BASS.

  • Amazing lineup...the percussion tight, Kabongo's vocals are right on the money, Marthe's bass is clean and powerful, and Zawinul is still kicking ass on synths.

  • yes..bad news for us.. i hope he's ok too...the medecine mens said "no mortal danger" for Mr. Zawinul. I had dinner with him in april, i saw that he lost weight..but here, it's terrific! we're thinking of you Joe. good luck

  • Great! The title was BADIA/BOOGIE WOOGIE WALTZ. Great to hear two of his Weather Report classics. I am slightly worried though by his frail appearance. I saw him only recently (about a year ago) and he looked much more healthy than at this concert. Hopefully he`s OK.

  • According to the Associated Press, he was admitted to a Vienna hospital last Sunday (5 August) with an undisclosed illness.

  • saw him 3 X in nov 06 LA was the best

  • He seems to become better and better, the older he gets :)

  • my god!!!! this man is 75 years old!!!!! he is the real groove master!!!!!! I was there in lugano...awesome concert!
