I ran out of space but the country which allows this is none other than Australia I have written to Greenpeace and WWF but they are not interested in the Dugong, with WWF I got some run around about how the Indigenous people need the Dugong in their diet,it is not as if these people are starving as they are on goverment pensions from a early age so I still do not unstand why they have to kill the Dugone

Why are the eyes only on the Japanese when one of the counries that are so against whaling allow hundreds of dugongs to be killed in the most cruelist way,two people were caught cutting up a Dugong while it was still alive, they were charged but the court ruled that because it was done in the traditional way they could not be charged,it was stated that something has to be done as thousands are killed in this way, green turtles are killed by having their shells cut off while they are alive,

i suppose ancient okinawan references to dugong in songs, etc. were part of earthjustice conspiracy? we don't care who builds it, we don't want foreign military occupation, whether its US or japanese gov't, including the dozens of facilities across 20% of island. if you're in okinawa, take the bases you love so much back to your own country!

Fitst of all there is a shit load of lies in this. One the military isn't building shit. The Japanese Government is building it. Second this is the second site. The first site was on the other side of the Island. Thrid the dugong doesn't live here at all. They saw two swim past this bay that is it. You make it sound like it stays here.Well it is rare to even see a dugong anywhere on okinawa. Okinawians use to eat this thing,hell they still eat dolpins,they sell it in supermarkets.

this is tragic on many levels

the most tragic level is in 'asking the military to build the base in such a way as to minimize damage'

that's like asking a burglar to only take half of your possessions

instead of telling him to get the hell out of your home

not earthjustice, but the people of okinawa should not stand for this

i just re-read this and didn't mean to imply that earthjustice isn't doing a really good thing

nor that the okinawans aren't doing their best

it's just tragic that people are politely asking the u.s. military to 'reconsider' destroying the land and habitat of okinawa
