@OuTofJoY NORAD runs excercises every day. And most of the crashes occurred within half of an hour of the hijackings, the first one was 16 minutes after the plane was taken, the second 23 minutes. Not enough time to alert NORAD and then for the intercepters to get there, and what were they going to do then? Shoot em down before they knew it was a suicide mission? NORAD watches for INCOMING planes, and they did not even have a hotline to air traffic controllers.

@Funkadelic2 You can see pictures of the building 7 debris field... 7 fell at an angle with the facade on top, which means it fell towards the area of damage. 1 and 2 fell straight down because there was nothing to force them sideways. The floors collapsed, the cores collapsed, and the outside walls were not strong enough to force anything sideways.

WTC 7 came as straight down for the first 2/3 of the collapse as any controlled demoltion would ever have it come down. That is completely implausible for a building damaged by unevenly distributed fires on six floors.

@Funkadelic2 The support trusses that ran toward the base of the building which had to be put there because it was built on top of an electricity transformer station. The vault was only built for a 25 storey building, so this is why 7 was built so lightly.
Parts of the exterior WTC1 ended up crashing into 7 (and the Deutsche bank building) because they were thrown clear by the impact of the floors above.

You can see it very clearly at approximately 0 : 10 and at every 10th second (0 : 22, 0 : 32, 0 : 42, and so on) repetitively throughout this clip:

The lateral forces of the columns literally snapping due to the pressure of the floors above forcing them downward would have been easily enough to force them that distance, and further. The Verizon and Deutsche bank buildings also suffered massive damage (the Verizon building needed a billion dollars worth of repairs, and the Deutsche Bank building had to be carefully demolished).
@dangerouslytalented If you look carefully at the video clip I linked to ( /watch?v=hSApOavkHg8 ), you can clearly see that what hurled those huge sections of steel columns was not any spring action. The collapse wave had already pass below, and still they were pushed out with a lateral force enough to blow them 300 feet sideways (actually more like 350-450 feet if they had not impacted with WTC 7) from approximately 850 feet up. Neither gravity nor spring action causes such lateral forces.
@Vierotchka ... but it still smashed into a concrete building, at a much lower speed, and inflicted massive damage. These planes were flying at suicidal speeds, much faster than most plane crashes. And the higher the speed, the force of impact increases exponentially. That is just physics. The result in such high speed crashes, is that both the projectile and target are massively damaged.

As for WTC, most of the fuel exploded outside of the towers, and jet fuel doesn't burn at a high enough temperature (neither do plastic, wood and paper) to weaken steel (let alone melt it, and there were large pools of molten steel below where the towers stood). If things had happened as you describe, the falling of the towers would have been asymetrical and not symetrical. Then there is WTC7...

Steel expands when subjected to such heat, and this expansion led to a relaxing of the tensions that held the towers up, which exacerbated the damage initially inflicted.
@dangerouslytalented NIST estimates (remember: estimates) said 6 severed core columns in WTC 1, and 10 in WTC - which btw is totally conuterinutive considering the impact patterns) and about 14% of the perimiter columns. At least keep to the NIST claims if you want to claim any credibilty whatsoever.

There was no actual way of finding out how many core columns were actually severed, because there were no surviving eyewitnesses to the damage.6 was the minimum that could be conclusively proven to be completely severed, plus more that were damaged.Then there were the six floors that were destroyed. The whole building relied on the internal tensions holding the whole thing up, and with massive centralised damage, these tensions were weakened.

If even one of those floors was broken clean through, from exterior wall to core, then that floor is no longer bracing the core against the exterior wall, and that floor becomes essentially dead weight, instead of buttressing the whole building, it is causing more stresses upon the remaining structure.

In high speed crashes, BOTH the projectile and the target are severely damaged. Take a look at the scene of ANY high speed crash into the ground. There is a huge crater and shredded aircraft debris everywhere, like when a soft hollow bullet hits a target. The mass of the projectile transfers momentum and causes immense damage.

The floors collapsed, the cores collapsed, and the outside walls were not strong enough to force anything sideways.

WTC 7 came as straight down for the first 2/3 of the collapse as any controlled demoltion would ever have it come down. @Funkadelic2 The support trusses that ran toward the base of the building which had to be put there because it was built on top of an electricity transformer station. The vault was only built for a 25 storey building, so this is why 7 was built so lightly.
Parts of the exterior WTC1 ended up crashing into 7 (and the Deutsche bank building) because they were thrown clear by the impact of the floors above.

@dangerouslytalented If you look at what really happens when WTC 1 "collapses", you will see that the biggest chunks supposedly hitting WTC 7 were ejected from about 2/3 up, or even lower down the building, which is severely lateral ejections, totally out of possibility of only "falling" on 7. You can see it very clearly at approximately 0 : 10 and at every 10th second (0 : 22, 0 : 32, 0 : 42, and so on) repetitively throughout this clip:

The lateral forces of the columns literally snapping due to the pressure of the floors above forcing them downward would have been easily enough to force them that distance, and further. The Verizon and Deutsche bank buildings also suffered massive damage (the Verizon building needed a billion dollars worth of repairs, and the Deutsche Bank building had to be carefully demolished).

The collapse wave had already pass below, and still they were pushed out with a lateral force enough to blow them 300 feet sideways (actually more like 350-450 feet if they had not impacted with WTC 7) from approximately 850 feet up. Neither gravity nor spring action causes such lateral forces.

As for WTC, most of the fuel exploded outside of the towers, and jet fuel doesn't burn at a high enough temperature (neither do plastic, wood and paper) to weaken steel (let alone melt it, and there were large pools of molten steel below where the towers stood). If things had happened as you describe, the falling of the towers would have been asymetrical and not symetrical. Then there is WTC7...

Once one floor collapsed, there was nothing stopping it from smashing through the floor beneath it. Add to this the fact that the buildngs were held up by their internal tensions, the core braced against the exterior walls by the floors, and any slackening of the tensions (by expansion of the girders due to fire) brings it down
