Because their religious leadership is completely crazy. ok, i'll grant you that support for Israel is a reason to be annoyed with West, but calling this territorial / economic / political and very complex situation some kind of religious war by ALLAH himself is just silly. A lot in the West lobby all the time for recognition of rights of Palestinians - the media in Europe is almost as pro-palestinian as in the middle-east. Whew! Now I feel better venting like this. But the fact is...that there are lots of courageous people within islam trying to reform it...not for us in the west but for the benefit of their own people. Nothing in this world is ever really settled or starkly black and white.

How exactly can you reform Quaran ? Quaran is word of god , how can you reform word of god ? If god says that Jews and Christians are pigs and monkeys and should be terrorized until they convert ,pay jiza or annihilated , than it is the ultimate goal of every muslim .

Well I met a muslim lawyer in a Pal Talk chat room one evening who impressed me.

Actually, there are a lot of moderate voices in Islamic states - just not Iran and Saudi Arabia. That's why you have secular states and democracies e.g. Turkey, Morocco, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, they all seem to be going ok.Egypt is pushing for a liberal to be elected who was a previous receipient of Nobel Peace Prize. It can be argued the style of instruction in qu'ran was appropriate to situation in which it was revealed, so Islam can grow through wisom just like other religions

Morocco and Egypt are democracies ? You kidding , right ? Egypt living under martial law for last 50 years . Morocco occupying Western Sahara and suppress freedom of speech . Even Turkey is a democracy only on paper , in reality army intervened few times in politics to prevent islamization of secular Turkey . With this new referendum , Turkish Army don't have this right anymore , therefore AK party will get only stronger and eventually will lead Turkey to caliphate .

And even within Iran, there is a very large dissatisfied populace who want to reclaim their persian or kurdish identities, The ancient religion of zoroastrianism took a pummelling from aggressive imposition of Islam on the region as well, which was a great shame, because zoroastrianism is one of the oldest & most elegant systems of religious mythology on Earth. Islam has always been ultra-conservative in arab heartlands, but not so ossified & anti-intellectual as it can seem today.

*PS Oh yeah sorry i didn't mean "moderate" voices (obviously there are a lot of them)...i meant MODERNISING voices - as in trying to actually reform the whole way of thinking about and practising Islam. They really need to make more noise though and to somehow break through wall of silence about both accepting, denouncing & helping to solve militant jihadism (it is dispersed across 20+ countries on fairly regalar basis, mostly emanating from al'qaeda-inspired martyr brigades)

I would love to hear those voices , but unfortunately they are drowning in voices of psycho lunatics . And the actions of those lunatics speaks much louder than actions of modernizers .

For example - French ban on burka ... It is one of the most needed modernization in Islam , but all we hear is angry protests , not even one voice of support or counter-proposition to solve this problem .

There are two possibilities:

1. Mohammad was channelling the words of Allah, including all those cruel and sadistic descriptions of Hell (boiling waters poured on head and burning through outside and inside; skin burned off again and again; Allah "taunting" Christians) & lived a sometimes violent life himself.

2. Mohammad gained empire violently, but ruled with sense of justice, wrote qu'ran to further political control, & created gruesome Hell ideas to terrify people into believing

There is an overall, steadily increasing sinister pattern of events, qu'ranic / Islamic philosophy v. West clash (on freedoms, fatwas, rights and so on), statistics on attitudes of poor loyalty among European muslims to host nations (islam comes first), & not-so-subtle hints (or blatant announcements) of "stealth jihad"...creeping islamicization. We may require aggressive integrationism e.g. language classes for adults, complete burqa ban etc & if this is intolerable, repatriation.

Fat lot of good it is Obama saying "America is not at war with Islam" when you have these guys saying "America is the enemy of Allah".
