I love Aziza and her music. Being from the Netherlands I know no one has heard of her here. I only know of her because my mother brought back a cd of her from Azerbadjian through her work very greatful for this. Just goes to show how some music and artists don't travel at all, because of the western music industry.

I am a fan since 1992 since I was studying in Mainz/Germany where she lived. She was great back then already and is getting better year after year! She makes me tear up every time, especially when she sings in Azerbaidjani.

What's more is that one of the critics here is advocating freedom of opinions when they are so insecure in their own opinions that the minute someone attacks them he or she completely over-reacts and then proceeds to completely overstate his point by extensive use of hyperbole. (I know my post is long but I'm certainly not exaggerating any of the facts)

I think she is quite talented personally. She has a very unique and intriguing style and I think those that have a problem with it are probably trying to make it conform to some preconceived notion of "good music". That is precisely what jazz is not about. If it was everyone would play the same jazz standards in the same way and that would rather defeat the purpose of having the standards in the first place and you couldn't have any true improvisation.

Though I'm not musically trained, I can tell she's doing some VERY clever improvisation while still keeping in time with the original composition. That is the beauty of jazz music. Since you obviously don't understand whats going on here I have two suggestions.

1. Listen to as many versions of "Take Five" as you can. This might help you understand her "obscure melodies"

2. Open your mind new music.. then, when some time has past, come back to revisit This piece. Your view may change in that time.
