As LONDONGUY100 has said Rupert is alive and well. I won't forget the night a friend of ours Boby Bear called me at 2:30 in the morning telling me of the news of his death in a subway a couple of years past even though I had just talked to him just weeks before. I was able to get in touch with the author and he took the post down. Rupert at this time lives in the UK and on Thursday nights he runs a Blues Jam night at the Tune Inn, 48 High Street, Acton, W3
Thanks for the post, though I would tell anyone to watch the whole film...and yes, any young gay person would find the film reassuring....O Lucky Man! also by Lindsay Anderson is also one of my favourites
Watching if... when I was about 11 years old had a major effect on me, and this scene in particular meant so much, I could completely identify with what Phillips was feeling and it helped me understand a lot about myself. A rare, empowering moment in cinema, and a brilliant and provocative film overall.
Superb sequence. I once watched it so many times in succession that I went off it, if you can credit that, but after a rest from it I've come back to appreciate it with fresh eyes and ears.
He is lovely. BUT.. what about all that gym stuff.. oh my goodness.. I crushed my tibia doing that at a park a few years ago lol.. !!! if only I landed properly lol..
I'm not gay, but mm mm. That boy is Gorgeous. Just beautiful, I love watching him in this movie, the gentle way he moves, so sweet and nice. Too bad he had so few scenes in this movie. He was in 2 british t.v. shows after this movie aired, and then he went into musicals and finally was a guitarist in a rock band.
Those whips were right in the beginning of the movie, that boy does get lovlier every day. MUUUAH : )
It was reported that Rupert Webster (phillips) died having been attacked on the new york subway. This found its way into a book about Lindsay Anderson, but it was a case of mistaken identity. Rupert Webster is alive and well. We were at the same school,( Holland park comprehensive, London) when Rupert made the movie. I remember him well from school, but have unfortunately not seen him since.
Can anyone tell which music is in this scene?
