Actually For You Information, Holding it out is for training purposes only. And This way with the pull back, it is a lot faster to move away afterwards. Also, with the pull back it makes the punch a lot faster and stronger. You clearly didn't go long enough to get to this stage.
I have trained in Karate and Ju Jitsu. I simply do not understand why Karate experts teach their students to defend a straight punch/jab in this way. How many people do you know who would throw a punch and then leave it hanging in the air? Most trained fighters would throw a jab and them quickly withdraw it. It's possible to block a jab and grab hold of the hand whilst moving into the attacker. It's virtually impossible if you step back.
I can't believe you said that but I would like to know why? I trained in Wado for some years & there is nothing wrong with this give the Mens age, he is very dynamic.
In my opinion, it looks perfect on Suzukis behalf. Relaxed but the actual techniques are distinct and explosive. I don't see any unnecessary movements due to tension. Or actually... during the first block, it looks like he raises his shoulders slightly, but it could be the gi.
I trained with Tatsuo 30 years ago - I'm still taining, teaching and learning (!). Although these vids show a younger man, I'm delighted to know he is still involved with Wado.(Kai or Ryu - who cares? Leave that to the suits).
I used to practice Nihon Koden Shindo Ryu in Venezuela. We were told our style was a fork of Wado Ryu. Now I see the resemblance and the power of the techniques... thanks for posting these vids.
You can find Suzuki's DVDs in the store section of the WIKF website. Just do a google search for WIKF. I found the videos on the net myself, but I'm pretty sure that's where they come from.
This one technique is not worth anything. All of this is spent, you live in a fairy tale!
