ipod and sony will go hand to hand in quality because i have owned both sony walkman and Ipod touch, with respect to walkman it lasts longer my sony cassette player which i have bought 10 yrs ago is working, but with respect to ipod i like its looks, rectina display, large 3.5" screen etc

I hate to say it..iTouch wins by a mile guys. Its only cons are the no EQ, big whoop. And I bet you 9 times of 10..you can get an app for it, like anything else in iTouch, or just get better headphones. Other than flat EQ, its totally forth the 3-400 bucks because you're getting a lot in one device

Cant say the same for the Sony. Its price isn't justified to compete--no apps, sucky browser, only supports lossy formats (waste of those headphones!), no Mac support, no cameras etc.

but does it have the app support like the iPod touch? I can see this competing with iPod nano/shuffle but the touch has apps like the iPhone and I just don't think Sony can compete on that front. I went to my local SonyStyle store and I saw and held it, played with the X, its simply a superior digital music player. Simply stunning. The build with the granite look, glass front, quality build buttons everywhere and the sound... the sound! I no longer will be buying iPods. I now know better.

iTouch can't be compared with this, reason that itouch is more like a toy or an entertainer, while sony walkman is a 'music' player, not a freaking toy. I've used Cowon S9, walkman a828 and an iTouch, and BBe+ of S9 is pretty impressing, but the sharp sound of walkman is much appealing. But iTouch can't even be compared with those two because of its lack of EQ and its fucking flat sound. I'm sorry for the ipod-lovers but if you are buying an iPod series for listening to music, you are retarted.

You really shouldn't have your iPod inside the tanning bed, that just doesn't seem like a good idea in general. You can have it lying outside and it is perfectly possible to see clearly inside a tanning bed, so that wont really be a problem. The beach thing on the otherhand just speaks to bad hardware, not the actual interface. It because of the bad screen you can't see what you are doing, not because there aren't any hardware buttons on the device.

Look very promising. But the problem is Sony's walkman brand is already overwhelmed by Apple's marketing and popularity. Now is limited to Sony and Audiophiles choice.

I personally like Sony players' audio quality, but the lack of open source application development is a minus compare to iPod Touch or iPhone.

So I rather get an iPod Touch or iPhone if I want not only a decent music and video player but a pocket computer from games to applications.

This looks good, but the new released Samsung P3, although it doesnt have wi-fi supports bluetooth, which is very handy :) The walkmans good, but the Samsungs better in my opinion (as its out now! lol) and the ipods cool, but very expernsive for the capacity for the 8 gig for example....

All of you dissing the Touch don't know what you are talking about, because you can't see the big picture. I'm not saying this won't be a contender but there is so much more to the iPod Touch than music. If you havent used it, my words won't do it justice but the Touch and the iPhone are literally a full on computer with the best touch interface there is. I actually run my business from my touch when I'm away from my Mac. These devices are like an electronic swiss army knife, only better.

Yah, and I wasn't very impressed with the sound quality of my first gen iPod touch. It sounded flat in the bass range. That's why I returned it and am now a proud owner of a sony walkman nwz e series. It plays aac files, a big plus for non apple players. Plus you can drag and drop files and don't have to rely on any specific file managing software like iPod.
