  • Lots of people say that it was English piracy that started the war when in fact it was Spanish piracy in the Caribbean. They attacked British trade ships resulting in the death of Drakes nephew at the hands of the Spanish that set Drake and Hawkins on a personal war against them resulting in the Spanish Armada and the start of a shift in power. Both nations suffered many more defeats but only one emerged victorious and ruler of the waves. . .Britannia! Britons never shall be slaves!

  • @Glenview30 It is not like that, the Pope asked the Spanish king (who certainly was the impeller of creating the British navy, when his sister was a queen) but the king did not want, years after, through the fault of the piracy, the king said YES to the Pope, but this battle was not decisive by no means, few after the english men threw against Spain " his counter navy " being defeated, actually Spain I spoil alone, and his power lasted until middle of the XVIII

  • This was very helpful, thank you!

  • ¿ever heard about the english armada AKA counter armada AKA expedition Drake-Norrys Nicky? never a defeat had so many names in order to be hidden jajajajajajaja.

  • Why? Bad weather.

Why did the greatest british fleet ever gathered in 1741 failed in Cartagena de Indias? --- Hmm, spanish and colombian strategy, bravery and defensive skills in the caribbean. 1741 IS BRITAIN'S GREATEST HUMILLIATION EVER!

  • 0:25 Spanish cannons looked different and didn't have wheels. Instead they were attached to the wall of the boat which meant that it would eventually pull the ship apart.

  • Figures: Spanish armada 1588 vs English armada 1589:

Spanish armada- 1.800 spanish causalities& 5 ships sunk (just considering causalities by english weapons).

English armada- 13.000 english dead or captured+ other 5.000 english desertors+30 ships sunk or captured (just considering causalities by english weapons.

LOOOOL compare! and remember that the anglo-spanish war of 1585-1604 was a spanish victory.

  • asi es que dominamos los mares 300 años pendejos

  • AMAZING

  • i have to do a project about the spanish armada too >.< but anyway what lvl did u get on that its pretty cool and unique the way u made it with the scoreboard and stuff x3 its original :P

  • @AnimalLover1144 the teacher never bothered to watch it :(

  • @NickTheBrains awww :/ mean teacher

  • I cant believe people are arguing like this over the Spanish Armada. This video is a kids school project! It is really good and I hope you got some good marks for it. This sort of enthusiasm to study like this should be encouraged. @megaead69 - I think you are really over acting and being unecessarily aggressive over this.

By the way, it is English until 1714 which is when we became British ;-)

  • @Malenta , maybe it´s technically good (Nick can edit video and add horrible noise to it) but as a history exercise this is RUBBISH. The only truth is that the Spanish didn´t expect having to fire their guns more than once. Even Medina Sidonia´s portrait is from a XVIII-early XIX century guy. Ships FALSELY depicted are 18th century. I´m afraid the brain washing in English schools still goes on. Nick, please, try to find a serious, unbiased book. I recommend you any of Jeffrey Parker´s.

  • stupid shit

  • Whose side is God on, he can't decide? no ones ? Phillip II thought God would be on his side but the Armada failed. The repulse of Spanish naval might gave heart to the Protestant cause across Europe, and the belief that God was behind Protestant cause was shown by striking of commemorative medals that bore the inscription," He blew with His winds, and they were scattered". But the U.S. in 1776 thought God was with Washington against Britain. Everyone claims God's on their side.

  • I'm not British. Anyway i suppose i could be mistaken, but as far as i was taught the english sent fire ships into the armada when they were docked in Gravalines, then the spanish retreated around scotland, then the storms hit them around Ireland. Less than half the armada returned to spain. If you read Chris Truman's report on it, he says that the weather around the south east helped the Spanish escape. Medina Sedonia (spanish) wrote that the spanish were 'saved by the weather, by god's mercy.

  • @megaead69 I'm South African

  • @megaead69 dude, stfu

  • @megaead69 lol if you don't like the video don't come on it

  • Are you joking? The Spanish Armada fell due to a storm that ravaged her ships.

  • @megaead69 I made this video with the information I was provided with, take it up with my history department if you are dissatisfied with the information

  • @megaead69

Haha that's quite funny, actualy the storm hit the spanish ships when they were retreating around Ireland. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you post another bitchy comment. Btw where are you from? you don't sound British. ;)

  • @Gregdekiller999 Yeah, that's a good one, "mate!" Retreating you say huh? Is that what they've tought you in the U.K? Lol- you Brits are too, too, funny!!

  • was due to the fact that the Protestant movement had bad propaganda to Spain

  • PS: sorry for my bad English

  • Is simpler: stupid spaniards were round all over the island, from the south to Scotland, and then to the south again. Meanwhile, the storms and fire ships sent by Drake were destroying their supplies. The main reason of the defeat: stupid commanders, attack or rest in home, but don't go for a walk with the ships.

Later, something alike happened to the English with the counter-armada

¿Y no eres separatista?

  • Thanks, really helped!!!!!!!!

  • Interesting video. When you put "British" in your captions...Shouldn't that read "English"...?? I dunno I'm from Thailand and like British history. I think it's quite funny how the Spanish people get all upset about this battle. After all it was them that set out to invade a small island. They were in the wrong.

  • @Southland27 It can be said British or English as far as I'm aware, but there is a slight difference

  • @Southland27 , have you ever asked yoursefl WHY was the invasion launched? Openly aiding a rebellious province (the Spanish Netherlands) with money, supplies, arms and troops DURING PEACE TIME was not a good reason? What about English pirate attacks (Drake, Hawkins) on Spanish ships and cities, many of them having Queen Elizabeth as a sponsor / investor? (these piratic expeditions were funded in the London Stock Exchange) Open your eyes, England was a ROGUE STATE. Attack was legitimate.

  • And not only was the invasion legitimate; it was an act of self-defence in an undeclared war launched by England. Philip II didn´t give the order until English provocations became untolerable.

  • @lentorpe Well mabye if Spain wasn't occupying the Netherlands it wouldn't have been a rebellious province. Mabye if Spain hadn't looted South America the English wouldn't have had reason to attack Spanish ships...Which funded the begining of the English/British empire. I'm sure they are very grateful :) England rose from rogue state to world dominance --- Thanks to Spain. I suppose you'll be wanting Gibraltar back next.

  • @Southland27 ,

1.- The Spanish Netherlands were a personal possession of Philip II; they had not been conquered by Spain, but inherited by Philip´s father. (Charles I of Spain and V of the Holy Roman Empire, I´m sure you knew it perfectly.) This was the basis of legitimacy on those days; so don´t try to judge this matter applying our present uses and conventions to other eras, but the ethics of THAT time. And in that time no one could refute Philip´s right to restore his authority.

  • @Southland27 ,

2.- Oooh, poor little indians, looted by the evil Spaniards. So you humanitarian Englishmen HAD to rescue them. So sad you just stole the gold when at seas, instead of taking the land from us to hand it back to the indians and restore their ancient freedom. (I suppose THAT and no other would be your purpose...) (irony)

By the way, I wonder why are there so many indian faces in South America and so few in North America. Do yourself a favour and forget talking about the indians.

  • @Southland27 ,

3.- And I suppose you have no fuXXXng idea about what Gibraltar was, what Gibraltar is, and how it came to English hands. The clue for my supposition is the fact that you show no shame to start talking about it, clearly indicating either a) - Absolute ignorance, or b) - Absolute chauvinism-jingoism-autosatisfaction, or c) a+b.

Over. Read. Then keep reading. Then change your information sources and read even more. Then restart this topic if you still want to do so.

  • @lentorpe Ha Ha Gibraltar has touched a raw nerve with you Spaniard. Don't give me all that Spanish empire was good rubbish either. Why was there a rebellion in Spanish Netherlands...Could be they didn't want the Spanish there...right? And as for Northh American Indians...What has that to do with Britain. Most were killed and put on reservations after American independence. Oh by the way I'm not British. Do you think you'll get Gibraltar back? I don't think so :)))

  • @Southland27 ,

Over and over again with Gibraltar? Man, you are like a clockwork potato.

So you enjoy touching other people´s raw nerves. Well, worry a bit less about Spanish lands stolen by the brits, and a LOT more about Pedophiles´ Paradise on Earth. You have it closer.

    ´Ya feel touched, troll?

  • @lentorpe Ha Ha - You'll have to try harder Spanipiig.

    Now about Gibraltar :)))

  • cool!

  • this helpedd mee! xxx

  • @TheSaleh11 lol, your welcome :)

Check out the trailer for the game I'm making. It's pretty cool:
