  • Ahh..I hear this song and it seems all is right with the world :)

  • Funny...I was in a lot of rock bands (from proggy to hard rock to jazzy/bluesy). It's funny how many guitarists I've played with were hardcore fans of Larry. Or more specifically, guitarists who mostly listened to hard rock/metal or blues/blues rock but somehow found Larry! Even have a death metal buddy who consideres Larry one of his top 2-3 favorite guitarists!

  • One of my very favorite songs of all time from any era or any genre. The ultimate groove topped with guitar riffing as only Larry can do it! Met him at various shows. Super approachable, as nice & down to earth a guy as you could hope to meet! He'll actually just hang out & talk w/o the 'Help me escape" look to friends/mgnmt or the constant watch staring! Saw him w/Lukather, caught both sets that night. Insanely good & fascinating seeing Luke so respectful of him! Ahhh, the day's not so bad now!

  • unaprieciated? so what. this song puts me in another world. that's all that counts. thanks, Larry

  • love this, get down larry

  • THIS GUY IS UNDERATED! <--- YES!!! UNDERATED!

  • so fast...great with ritenour, so perfect together

  • Very cool! I remember when I first heard this song in the late 80s. Smooth jazz on the radio was such a pleasure to listen to. IMHO, Larry Carlton and Earl Klugh would make an impressive high class guitar talent combo.

  • I vote yes on the national treasure bit.

  • true legend!

  • この曲が入っているAlone / But Never Alone をジャケ買いしたところ、大当たり。それ以来、私のお気に入りです。

  • he is one creative guitar player.

you don't have to play as fast as Steve vai (and I like vai so nothing against him ) in order to be virtuoso . just imagine Kid Charlemagne without Larry solo...

  • amazing licks, gr8 harmonics gr8 bonding of 2 hands!

  • The name Larry Carlton just came to my mind today. Did a YouTube search of it and this is what I get? I Love it! I guess I got it from my father.

  • One thing I can't understand is why nobody told him that his haircut was awful...

  • @JusticieroDeLaMuerte Unlike Samson, Larry's strength is not in his hair..... Nope, all mind and fingers. ;=)

  • love this... master of guitar..

  • this guy has tremendously influenced me since i learned to play to play the guitar wish i had those hands.

  • Has been my inspiration as a player for about 25 years.

  • could listen to this for hours

  • Ich mag seine Musik!

  • This is perfection.

  • Larry mus be coming from Heaven and is also one of worship members....he must be an Angel....

  • He was encored 4 times back in 2004 Bangkok Jazz festival!!! That's what I call quality music.

  • This is some quality music.

  • Fantastic!

  • newarrior3000, that what the fingerprints album is about.

  • Beautiful song, AMAZING guitar. Larry Carlton is a legend

  • i don't understand why someone wouldn't like this video (?)

  • @busybeaisme Yeah, hard to believe anyone wouldn't enjoy this, must be something wrong w/ their Chi. haha

  • i don't understand why someone wouldn't like this video (?)

  • Amazing!

  • 1 HOMO DOESNT LIKE THIS SONG/VIDE, THUMBS UP IF U AGREE

  • I remember when this came out. This is about as good as it gets for L.A. "happy jazz".

  • Larry is simply silky smooth on this song, nothing finer than Larry's licks....damn!!

  • Larry is sounding smooth! This is a great track and always brings me back to my childhood

  • Muito bom!!!

  • i like thi guitarrist more than steve vai

  • I recently started getting into Larry Carlton's music. I wonder why I did not starting listening to him sooner. This man is an absolutely amazing musician.

  • Awesome, as always - reminds me of a Kenny Burrell video I saw where KB was jazzing out on a flat-top with a soundhole pickup ;)

  • This song is so damn tasty. This melody could cure depression.

  • @pbonney It could and does.

  • @pbonney Amen to that.

  • Fantabulous guitar playing! Mr. Carlton or Sir Larry is indeed one of the best guitar player of all time. He can play all types of music from pop, rock, jazz, etc. and... he's all around almost every record made during the 80's & 90's. My ultimate wish is if he could play in Manila before he retires. See you in the future IDOL Larry!

  • damn.. imagine putting this guy with david weckl and victor wooten... That would be amazing....

  • Can anybody tell me how long was he with the Crusaders before striking out on his own?

  • great arpeggio at the end...

  • in the 70s he was the Dean of LA studio musicians playing on anything from hard rock to Middler records! My fave song by him, one of my all time faves.

At one of his shows he told me something about his wife being a singer/musician also!

His barnstorm tour with Lukater was the pinnacle of live playing. On The Pump Luke came out shredding in 1st set. So 2nd set Larry came out ripping & Luke went nuts! On Red House Larry called out 5 key changes & they just went for it. A true genius.

  • Michele Pillar. She's a contemporary Christian music singer.

  • The great.

    Gerald from Brazil.

  • is that a pick up ohhhh cool

man i became addicted to this song its so catchy!

  • The man is a national treasure..Also survived a shooting in LA and laid down many soul stirring licks for Steely Dan and Donald Fagen

  • @newarrior3000 Not sure about the National treasure bit,but he is a very talented man.For sure.

  • @newarrior3000 I know this is very late in conversation but I didn't know that happened to him. Since that's the case, he truly is a blessing to the country! For him to keep doing what he'd been doing before after something like that says volumes about him. And I dig this tune!!!

  • @newarrior3000 he got shot??? first i herd about it?

  • Larry is the man.

  • One of my favorites ever!

  • Awe..now that was Sweeeet..I am so thankful to Califfa700 for sending Larry Carlton's brilliant performance..to imagine being able to ever see that was impossible til now.. WoW how cool is that..ALEXYO678? YOU ROCK!!

  • Thank God I found this piece and I like it.

  • love it

  • Hey ALEXEY, thanks for posting all these fun Montreux videos of the great man... Happy memories! I've two questions, though: one, would you mind posting the other musicians' names besides Larry? Most of them look familiar, but I'm not sure. Is that Victor Wooten on bass?

My second question concerns the song "Smiles and Smiles To Go". I seem to remember a song that was very similar, but not entirely the same as this one. Anyone have a clue? Cheers!

  • I think "Shop Till You Drop" has a similar feel to it.

  • Thanks pcross84! Unfortunately, its another case of similar, but not the same. Oh well...
