  • Still better than Mrs Brown's Boys

  • are you avin a laugh?

  • You can see the self loathing on Andys face when Chris Martin walks in and plugs his album.

  • I like When the Whistle Blows. Am i not supposed to?

  • "Chris, what are you doing here in a factory in Wigham, ITS MENTAL"

"This is gonna sound absolutely redicoulus, but do you mind performing a song for us?"

    ROFL

  • oh, yea, when the wind blows

  • its better then lifes too short

  • oh look, it's the US version of the office.

  • 7:06 "What the fuouou-"

  • I bet Karl'd love this.

  • You've spelt "wind" wrong, you've spelt it "whistle".

  • @demRnerd I though Barry from EastEnders was in this

  • Gervais best performance!

  • When the Sitcom Blows.

  • "It's only Chris Martin from Coldplay!"

  • "Tick, tock, alarm clock, I'm gonna be late, porridge, toast, kids, car, bloody school gate, factory floor, what a chore, another [?] and fifty times a day I hear: ' You havin' a laugh?' Whatever happened to my dreams? Is the life I chose? The highlight of my bloody day is when the whistle blows, when the whistle blows..."

  • The most frightening thing about this is that back in the 1970s there were sitcoms even more crass than this one.

  • 2:42 AHAHAHAHAHA

  • IS HE HAVING A RAFF??!

  • My ex boss..

  • Fabio Capello

  • Are you avin a laff?

  • he says the door to his office is always open because of the broken hinges, but you see him opening it when he comes out

  • He acts like that tit from Not Going Out.

Ironic how this piss take is more funny than most American sitcoms.

  • i'm havin a laugh!

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for making this!

  • Id definatley watch When the Whistle blows if it was real Lol

  • its funny, but it makes you feel stupid for finding it funny

  • "Not when they dragged in the mash we didnt."

holy shit i spit my potatoes out at that one.

  • love that "I'm a sell out" face when chris martin is there

  • The Chris Martin bit is very sad, the acting from Ricky is tremendous, you can just see the shame on his character's face over the fact he sold his soul in return for fame.

  • ! there's a hilarious britcom parody vid on the youtube account sryanhoward ;p

  • Is this a real show or is it a spoof of a show?

  • @DourLemons it's a spoof from the show "Extras"

  • The "I don't get it" bloke has got to be based on Karl Pilkington.

  • miranda is the worst comedy ever

  • this is actually a really funny show

  • well...it still beats miranda, big bang theory, my family, lee macks all star cast, john bishops britain, mongrols, coming of age, two pints, the pranker, benidorm, outnumbered, freinds, friday night dinner, grandmas house, worlds craziest fools, smack the pony, school of comedy, will & grace, king of..., beehive, campus, and phone shop.

  • "I'd probably just have a bag of crisps"

    made me lol

  • Reg Holdsworth!

  • Hilarious!!!!

  • The attention to detail in the music and the opening credits is fantastic! They really nailed the observation!

  • Gervais and Merchant really went out of their ways to make the biggest piece of shit ever.

  • Is that David Brent's goofy brother? :P

  • "we all loved her milky puddings"

"not when they dragged in the mush we didnt!"

  • @reallydumbforeal1 *mash, referring to mashed potatoes

  • @ste305 I figured it was something like that, but it sounds like he's saying "mush" not "mash"

  • Although this is supposed to be an unfunny show, I can officially state that it's still funnier than "Coupling", "Two Pints of Lager", "Coming of Age", "Not Going Out" and that crap Charlie Sheen show

  • @wrmty56413

Coupling was great, deal with it.

  • @wrmty56413 Nothing wrong with Coupling! (Apart from the last series without Jeff.) Not Going Out is redeemed by the comedy genius that is Tim Vine.

  • @wrmty56413 I totally agree with you except for "Not Going Out", that's one of the only funny shows on tv.

  • @wrmty56413 don't forget big bang theory.

  • @kawadamark Yeah, agreed!

  • @goombabear I hope you are being sarcastic

  • Is he having a raugh?!

  • keep pressing 4 to hear the word "nigger"...

  • the sad thing is this comedy beats most american sitcoms like everybody loves raymond and two and a half men and this is suppose to be shit

  • @bowlerama2 This comedy beats most sitcoms in general, American or not. Though, to be fair, British television has a lot more funny sitcoms than America.

  • You avin a laff?

  • It was great up until the fourth series when Liza Tarbuck was replaced by Catherine Tate. The Christmas special, set in the Costa del Sol was good though.

  • The BBC would give When The Whistle Blows a series!

  • Its better than Mrs Browns Boys!

  • @0wls2k my mom loves that show. "it's like Father Ted' she told me. No mom, no it's not. Father Ted is clever and funny. Mrs Browns Boy is.....not. It's anti-comedy.

  • you can also how depressed he is

  • I have a crush on Brains.

  • he's a bit like Reg Holdsworth!

  • i like this show. catchy tune also. Ricky looks funny

  • This show is so plausible it had me fooled for a few minutes until Ricky Gervais appeared.

  • The theme song reminds me of the Nanny, but the Nanny is a worse show...

  • This is so perfectly crafted! It's inane and poor, but just so okay that it could pass as an actual sitcom.

  • The wig, the glasses, the catchphrase... Brilliant!

  • 'Why would Piranha's go for the cock first?'

That's something K. Dilkington would say.

  • look at his eyes, im pissing myself

  • I'm not laughing at it ironically.

I can't help laughing when he says it.

Probably cause he reminds me of a funny guy just like that in real life with the same accent.

  • miranda is piss poor

  • Was on in the USA love it!!

  • People laugh at this ironically, but people like Catherine Tate today are no better.

current state of British comedy is pretty dire since Gervais and Merchant went Hollywood.

  • Boycott the sun. J496.

  • I don't get it.

  • i actually thought this was great as good as any regular sitcom

  • When the whistle blows GREATER THAN:

    Miranda

    Titty Titty Bang Bang

    Two packets of Lager

    Catherine Tate Show

    Dinnerladies

    (Any) Impressions shows on BBC

    My Family

  • I actually think this show is hilarious.

  • this is awesome they should actually make it on the BBC

  • 6:08 is the best "is she avin a laugh?"

  • Wow, even as a parody it's funnier than most modern comedy.

  • thank you so much for uploading this

  • A lot of young people will be looking at this and saying "Wow! Ricky gervais used to be funny!"

  • Show's shit mate!

  • The best "are you 'avin a laff?" is at 6:08. Delivered with passion! Love the smile at the end :).

  • Im having a confused laugh.

  • reminds me of 'dinner ladies'

  • When Ricky says 'its mental' in his normal voice at 4:44 it gets me every time

  • its morbid that even though this was a parody of sitcoms´ stupidity, there are actually sitcoms just like that and maybe even more pathetic, ment for real.

  • @f4ust85

Miranda comes to mind instantly, absolute archaic crap!

  • In that wig and glasses, Ricky, in a strange way, looks like a fat version of Russell Crowe, with glasses and a wig.

  • I sort of know what you mean. I never would've got there before you said that, though.

  • its so bad its hilarious

  • Are you havin a laugh? Is he havin a laugh? you havin a laaaaugh

  • depressing

  • MORNING CAMPERS!

  • ching chang Chinaman milked a cow, ching chang Chinaman didn't know how, ching chang Chinaman pull the wrong tit, ching chang Chinaman covered in shit!

  • Sure I know, it's "When the Wind blows"

    WHISTLE!

    W = wind

    WHISTLE!

  • Are you havin' a laugh?

  • We don't get any BBC sitcoms down here, but it seems you people have to suffer through sitcoms almost as bad as Two and Half Men yourselves, if this parody is half accurate. Dead ringer for how lame that show is...

  • Comment removed

  • i love the way it's meant to be a spoof but is probably funnier than half the shows that do get commissioned! there's some other scenes from the Xmas specials too where they all go to spain and the papers slate it and compare it to "mrs slocum's pussy"...

  • @mercsmania

The jokes, if we take them seriously, aren't funny. We laugh because we are laughing AT the humour rather than with it. The fact it's a fake sitcom allows us to laugh, if it was real, it would be embarrassing to say you find it funny.

  • @danutcase66 I agree -- although the Northern accent makes it a bit funny. It's almost Carry On.

  • its only chris martin from coldplay, chris what are you doing in a factory in wigan its mental!

  • THIS REMINDS OF GIMME GIMME GIMME SHE WEARS WIG AND GLASSES ASWELL VERY FUNNY TOP MARKS A++++++++++++++++++

  • i think when the whistle blows is very funny lmao

  • When the W blows is the best show on television. Thanks for making this.

  • @InternetRabbleRouser the W stands for wind ;)

  • my ears are burnin'

  • i don't get it!!!!

  • hahahha i dont get it lol

can you send me link of last episode of extras?

  • Hahaha! Why is the factory set in Wigan!? Haha I'm from Wigan and I find it offensive LOL o.j

  • When The Whistle Blows > The Big Bang Theory

  • @JohoFTW Can't agree more.

  • @orsetto81utube

Well that was one of the worst comments I've ever heard. What better life have you aspired to out of interest? You seem like a moron, I'm fairly sure Ray Stokes wouldn't hire you.

  • I wish this was a real show, Ricky Gervais as Andy Milman as Ray Stokes is hilarious...

  • Is it me, or is Ricky Gervais trying to portray Reg Holdsworth from Coronation St in this?????

  • This is how the BBC wanted to make the office!

Ricky Gervais managed to get his way.

  • well i just dont get this

  • Extras..so much truth in it..

  • This is better than Extras

  • I remember watching reruns of When The Whistle Blows with my grandpa every Saturday night on PBS. Right after Are You Being Served?

  • I can't believe the amount of tripe on terrestrial T.V at the moment let alone the sitcoms.

  • Don't be too amazed, you 'avent seen 'er, ooooooh XD

  • Hahahah, belter.

  • Where's Keith Chegwin?

  • This is such a great parody of how lame sitcoms are. The sad fact is I would probably watch this show

  • @Krueg9651 yeah i know. i love office, extras. but i feel like gervais is tutting at me for liking are you being served when i was growing up.

  • @Krueg9651 it actually has its moments, doesn't it?

  • It's so sad on the occasions when you see Andy's genuine emotion coming through. You get the impression it must be soul destroying.

  • yeah, but would you rather act in a daft comedy or work in a factory? ;)

  • Good point :)

  • Anyone think the name Andy Millman is a play on Addy Moolman, Winnies Broker?

  • Comment removed

  • Seems they created something funnier than they intended, although I know I wouldn't bother with it if it was 'real'. My fave is the start of the xmas special.

    'BEB BEB!'

  • Reminds me of Seinfeld.

  • @gremlin05 - are you avin a lof?

  • Is he avin a laff???

  • i disagree...seinfeld was great

  • the wig the glasses brilliant!.......

    the wig the glasses brilliant!

  • oh ive finished lol lol lol !!!!!

  • {7:05}Ah,yes.....50-year-old racial stereotype humor.Ya just gotta love it!!!

  • Best... parody... ever.

  • "Oh i've finished.." LMFAO! That part was genuinly hilarious.

  • iv'e seen worse shows on bbc 3!

  • @THEBUSINESSOFDYING "You 'avin a laugh?" Seriously, though- You're absolutely right!

  • In a hilariously satirical way, he has made one of the funniest shows ever.

catchphrases, silly wigs, what more could you want from a sitcom.

and i have to say the ending, with the "Traditional Japanese entertainment" is the best thing ever, i use it all the time now if something is bad, "Ting tang chinaman covered in..."

  • Hmmm it's funny because it's so bad, and the people commenting on this video Who like it as a normal piece of comedy are exactly the people who ricky gervais has so cleverly mocked without them even knowing, it's people like 'whothegreat' who contribute to the ratings keeping these god awful shows on the air

  • Agreed. Sadly however, this mocks a satire which, in reality, exists in bulk throughout the BBC... They still make this shite in order to fill slots, temporarily, meaning to cancel them after the first series. This prevents any damage to their reputation, so long as they use this device sparingly. Genius really.

  • no it was originally done by only fools, allo allo, and so on now every prick who watched that show as a kid reckons they can do better alot only fools jokes were del boy misinterpreting a words meaning yet they were all hilarious

DEL "some guy said he could get me some of that french expensive champagne for cheap"

    RODNEY "what Bollingers"

DEL "that's what i said back to him"

  • The joke is that the characters have so cartoony characteristics, like Mr Stokes with the stupid wig and glasses and with the corny catchfraise.

  • So realistic like the average shitty unfunny comedys shown nowadays. But this is pretty funny

  • the saddest thing is this is much funnier than almost every new comedy on BBC these days. And the opening was cool!

  • 2:33 ... ARE YOU AVING A LAFF?

  • 3:52 was actually funny

  • Comment removed

  • come on, i don't think this is THAT bad:D

its just what became of british comedies in the 80's, it has something :D a special atmosphere, its maybe a little over the top but that can be funny too, i think the jokes are funny indeed.

besides, Ricky Gervais said himself that he would think this stuff is funny, its just the cliché's that make you thing this is a bad show

Jokes can be compared to music, you can make a pretty bad show, but still make great music, this works the same way...

  • I'd watch it if this was actually a real show.

  • haha, great opening for a fake show

  • I always thought When The Whistle Blows was kind of a copout, because they're attacking shows that don't exist anymore. Seriously, this is more like an 80's Mr. Belvedere-type sitcom.

  • fair point. ricky is satirizing a type of show that rly doesnt exist anymore. but it is still his idea of an awful show.

  • because it is supposed to be a "bad show" within a real show....it just makes it actually hilarious.

  • Is it awful to think that some of those jokes aren't too bad?

  • yes...it Is

  • "Oh you cooked for him aswell? hehoo"

    HAHA
