I don't know why theres all this romanticism over ancient societies. They had their pros and cons. This could just as well have been an ritual execution! Capital Punishment was not common under Brehon Law, but this may have been an extreme case. All societies have ritual surrounding State executions. Perhaps he was a traitor?
