I think this song was based on the time when Michael was lonely and needed friends. He said that he used to cry from loneliness, and that he would walk around the neighborhood at night just hoping to find someone to talk to. Poor baby, I would have been MJ's friend, his "someone in the dark", because that's probably the only time you could really talk to him. During the day he's being ambushed by paparazzi and ridiculed by the media. RIP MJ, I'll always love you.
