That is because there are no tax incentives for individuals and/or families that want health insurance. Under the healthcare law, Medicare lost 500 billion dollars that could of paid down the deficit or been used to help more seniors who enroll in the program. If we repeal it when we elect a new president, we can restore those funds to Medicare and/or pay down the deficit.

Even this site: healthcare-economist[dot]com/2006/07/27/, which attempts to debunk claims of Medicare's low overhead shows that Medicare's overhead is 5.2% compared to 30% for individual policies. Even the "average" private insurance overhead number of 16.7% is much higher (and, of course, retirees thrown into the insurance market will not be able to get group rates).

@bendofbay It eliminates waste, fraud, and abuse in Medicare. But the real problem is the healthcare law that we have. That is because there are no tax incentives for individuals and/or families that want health insurance. Under the healthcare law, Medicare lost 500 billion dollars that could of paid down the deficit or been used to help more seniors who enroll in the program. If we repeal it when we elect a new president, we can restore those funds to Medicare and/or pay down the deficit.

Republicans talk a lot about what we are leaving our children and grandchildren, which is why today's seniors have no intention of relegating their children and grandchildren to a risky voucher privatization scheme. They want them to have the same good Medicare that they have. This was a strategic error on the part of Ryan. Republicans hated Medicare in 1965, they still hate it.

Oh, by the way, hi reytrapaet. Thanks for being my fan. Weird you were the post right before me. No, I'm not flirting. (Too bad.) I have this weird idea that I can charm, wail, harangue, cobra-dance, joke, pun, and curtain-lecture lots of easily charmed people into maybe supporting my ideal 2012 ticket, Ryan/West. Why not have the two greatest men in America as our ticket, instead of trying to get halfway excited over an affable boob with some good ideas? I want a great President.

How many people on Medicare and Social Security even need the money? My father gets three pensions and Social Security for a total of over $80,000, for doing nothing. And my mother gets Social Security too, and she almost never worked outside the home. Why is it the sacred, inviolable, unchangeable promise of the government to give you much more in benefits than you paid in? How is that fair?
Why do people want to bleed the treasury dry, *when they don't need the money*? I don't want to.

The comments to this propaganda video from the left demonstrate why the Democrat Party doesn't want to solve the Medicare insolvency problem. Instead they want to continue to use it as a political football & every time a Republican proposes a potential solution, he/she will be relentlessly demonized & accused of throwing granny off the cliff. And because there are so many uninformed & easily fooled people who will believe thier BS, they can use it politically. What a shame.

@keaz Even independents like me can see clearly how Republicans don't want to raise taxes for those making hundreds of thousands per year, but have decided to cut programs that benefit RETIREES and WORKING-AMERICANS who make far less. We see where your priorities are -- and we don't like them.
