In that last clip, why didn't the owner grab the $1,500 before they lost it to the auction. Heck, they could have even bid on it themselves for $50 and got their money back.

But having family in broadcast journalism, you should understand that a local television station would never risk so much to stage a feature news story. Of course there have been examples of poor journalistic integrity by reporters but never flat out lying which is what staging a story is.

One more note, if you actually watch the story you will see that hardly anyone got a valuable locker. Josh and Shellie did decent but everyone else found crap. We shot dozens of locker auctions for that stor and the only big score was the cash. The interviews conducted were about past locker finds. If we wanted to stage the story, we would have filled the lockers full of expensive gadgets like Storage Wars.

Again people hide money from their famlies and spouses all the time. Sometimes they ditch the money in storage lockers. Then the renter dies or forgets the money is there and they family has no idea. A station could loose its licence for staging something like this and no station would risk that for a silly feature on storage lockers. I was there when the guy found the money and it was totally legit. And the storage company couldn't have planted it because they had no idea which lockers we would videotape. From what I understand, finding money isn't super common but not unheard of.

I guess some idiot may forget he/she has thousands of dollars tucked away, but logic dictates: if you're $4-5-600. behind in rent & youve got $1500 in your locker, even if they have you locked out, explain that if they let you in, you'll hand them $600., then take your $900, underwear, and vaccum & go.
