  • greatest songwriter of the 90s - Hussey come back !!!

  • Great tune. I remember seeing this on the Whistle Test, when the song had gone straight into the indie chart at number 1.

Bizarre that the band got a reputation as dour goths, when you look at the comedy videos for this & Stay With Me!

  • @InAnswer Admittedly, I think the 'Stay With Me' video was unintentional, but the 'lads lark in the park' in this is brilliant, low budget and entertaining :)

  • Another great song from The Mission. But, the video is irrelavant of the song.

  • i just saw them live an hour ago

    they played this song :)

  • @hera666 no, that was 3 months ago...:-)

  • Glad they didnt take themselves 'too' serious . ive got two mission concerts on video and one full of their 80s music videos need to clean off the vhs

  • dead me.....

  • Sat naked listening to this!

  • A bit funny video and too bright colours are in there, but the song is great!

  • The Mission celebrate their 25th Anniversary with a tour! Visit our facebook page MWIS

  • Thousand years since I bought this. Damn, they were good.

  • LOL I love how Wayne is kicking around the soccer balls and smiles and dances and randomly kisses the camera...he's just too adorable and loveable! <3

  • Takes me back to Halloween 1992! One of the best halloweens!

  • the video is ... well, I love the song anyway ;-)

  • Goth or not ,.. I LOVE CURE AND MISSION UK!!! FOREVER AND EVER

    CHEERS !!!

  • @Darkprinzful ... and the Sisters do I love too

  • IMO the video is kinda nice with it's quality :DDDDD

  • I still want to have Simon's babies, 20 years on....

  • this is exquisite

  • 6 people have no soul.

  • Brings back happy memories of the summer of 87 drinking cider and smoking B&H with friends until sunrise....................18 Forever!!!!!!

  • I wa slucky enought to have Wayne Hussey produce a demo fro us whilst he was living in Herefordshire, He was a barrel of laughs and always had a story to tell, He was often seen in Intermission having a hot chocolate with his Wife L.A Kell. Fantastic song.

  • I remember buying a pirated tape of this song (The first chapter EP) in the Philippines back in 1986 in SM Mall Q.C. at Kumbella Boutique. Awesome EP.

Over the hills and far away, crystal ocean, garden of delight plus this; ...Killer songs. This is a secret EP for real music enthusiast back then.

Bought it again in cd back in 1995 here in Canada and ruined the cd due to overplay, and bought in ITunes 2 yrs. ago again for my huge collection of 80's new wave stuff.

  • This was a fresh looking video back in the day and it still looks good-a bunch of lads having a laugh-and the track still sounds fresh. These were a bloody good live band as well..remember the confetti and Eskimos and all that

  • oooh the girls would fuck to this

  • @vengefulsmite

    yyeeesssssssss.........YES they did.

  • Uk Decay "The Werewolf" was the first ever Goth track

  • Uk Decay "The Werewolf" was the first ever Goth track

  • saw the mish so many times in the day!!!!! fuck yeh

  • Try to imagine the look on Andrew Eldritch's face when he sees the bridge dance @1:37. I'm out of breath.

  • 6 people ( 6 dislikes ) I bet they got serpents kiss on their ass XD

  • WHO CARES ABOUIT LABELS I K BAND NOW I LIKE GOOD MUSIC. THATS WHY MY FAV WAS THE SMITHS,. MOST SMITH FANS WOULD LIKE THE CURE, JOY DIVISION, THE STONE ROSES OR OTHER BANDS ..... • haha cool video!! Now I know from were Pavement got their inspiration for the nonsense videos.

  • I remember first hearing this on Whistle Test. No1 in the indie charts. OK, they never passed the test of time, but happy memories

  • what a lovely VOICE driven melody .......sweet to my ears

just like flowers scattered about on my ceiling

and if you ever get the serpent's kiss the kissing might get bolder!

    bloody great!

  • was that a pink cadillac? Wow

  • This video was my first ever sighting of The Mission on The Chart Show when it was on Channel 4 at 6:30pm on a Friday. Them was the (salad) daze!

  • This was the first Mission single! Masterpiece of the band!

  • the mission uk were a staple in 80s goth clubs like helter skelter. classify the music how you like but the goth kids were the ones listening to it.

  • I always wondered what happened to Boy George.

  • Goth fuck the hell off!! This is pure rock n' roll, it's the delivery that's a bit offset by flowery language and effects on the git fiddle. Hinkler wanted this band to be rock, while Wayne was happy writing songs for birds he could shag. Hinkler also likes the ale, while Wayne is very content with various wines.

  • fuckign great tune................ Underrated band . The Mission yeah !

  • what the fuck am i watching?

  • @wingchunathens7 I like them too!

    :-)

  • The Mission rules!!

  • Didn't realise it at the time, but I'm pretty sure most of that is on Otley Chevin isn't it? Ace. takes me back. [wistful sigh]...

  • @StalkingBeast Meanwood Park

  • a little bit off topic but........for those that don't know go check out the DAMNED - "love song" live vid.........so good!!

  • The Mission un Album muy parecido al sonido Sisters of Mecy-Autentics,muy autenticos.

  • This video is absurd and senseless, and I love it!

  • @MadamVampyre

    video absurd & senseless,i agree,but it's G8!

  • I love love love love THE MISSION UK

  • is that meanwood ridge? lol

  • @thisdyingage Yep!

  • Anyone know what type of hat Wayne is wearing? I'm looking for one myself

  • missions finest .........FIRST LAST EVERYTHING GOD BLESS WAYNE

  • Yeah, great song...

  • Great song of The Mission UK !

  • KILLER!!! Wore out my 12". I'm riding with jsuka555 - calling shotgun.

    Great, beautiful music, Goddamn.

  • What the fuck is a Goth anyway? Other than some sad twat that looks like they've been hit with a bag of flour and eat lots of Blackjacks!!!

  • I've never been a goth, but have always loved the mish.

G8 singing, infectious guitar riffs, catchy bass & driving drum beats & they have their own sound, whats not to like?

  • Not only goths listen to this ya know :p,

  • @nightskull23

yes this is true........i've been a punk rawker since 1987 but have always had a taste for the goth and (new) waver shit 5 years previous..........also(most) punk chicks were such slutty nasties i spent 99% of the time trying to scrog on the "batcaver" women so knowing what they liked was very helpful....mehhahaha!

  • Also, I've been watching this video over and over; it makes me very happy! hehe

  • hehe. i love the devil at 1:50

  • I am a huge Tones on tail fan, and just heard about this band, and COMPLETELY LOVE IT!!!

  • I used to watch this video over and over when I was a teenager! Great to see it again, the Goth inside still lurks!

  • I heard Wayne Hussey is selling one of his guitars on EBay for $1500. I just wish I had the money to buy it

  • Is it just me, or does "The Mission UK" sound cooler than "The Mission"? UK seems to add a lot to their name :P

  • I love this song

  • This video is a perfect reflection of the song.

    Awesome.

    ... and I'm not being nostalgic ...

  • This is without doubt, one of the most solid, creatively written songs I have ever heard. and I dunno what everyones saying cuz I actually dig the video =]

  • the most impressive song from the beggining of The Mission!

  • I agree to those who stated video quality's not important at all, what I really like's music and nothing else.

  • Because at the time I was a goth '86 and this was a goth band, on the video quality front, who cares, cos there was sod all money to spend on videos for a lot bands. A lot of the best stuff is low budget anyway.

  • I think the video's kinda crappy, but that's usually the case when they are low budget. A lot of people were making videos to get on MTV even if they didn't have a lot of cash. The amazing thing is, MTV would actually play a video that didn't cost millions back then. Now they're totally corporate.

  • perfect song, great memmories

  • IMHO you are too harsh. Please remember - in years 80' it's a normal style for whole gothics bands. Compare this clip with The Cure's "Friday I'm in Love". Both clips are same funny. But both songs ale awesome!

  • Goddamn why is everybody commenting on the video quality!?!! Shit back then you'd only see this on mtv's 120 minutes or some obscure show you'd have your pals fom England record for you. Not like these guys were saying,

"in a few decades the masses will be judging our video on fucking youtube"

I'm old (35) so please excuse my ranting...........

  • @jsuka555 Agreed. I remember have to track nearly all the videos that I copied off the TV once I plyed them on a different VCR. Compared to most, the tracking on this isn't bad.

Saw these live a couple of times once in Sheffield, and once in Nottingham. Good sound, poor act.

  • @jsuka555 back then it was about the music, not how much you can put into a video.

  • @MissHorrorstarr

    fuckin A, really?!?!?!?!

hahaha just kidding ya, stay cute!!

  • @jsuka555 LMAO at ure comment dude,,,, im 29 in 2 weeks also feel old, was listening to them in the 90's wen i was in my early teens,, did wish then and now that i coulda been this age in the 80s,,lol.... ugh, but dont worry i rant to,, LOL,, peace and light!

  • @jsuka555 35 you young thing .lol ....i taped this off the chart show ..............on bloody beta max!!!! :D

  • lol.. 1:50 the devil in his underwear. how embarrassing.

  • @Menschenfeindlich Hey! we're loving Craig in his scuddies ;-)) Love this vid, it's what the Mish were all about to begin with.

  • I can just hear the director,"twirl that umbrella ,run past the lake, it's the MTV era and video's sell records guys"

  • Why do gothic today call this stuff their music....it's newwave.

  • This is what real gothic music sounds like.

The MIssion, the Sisters Of Mercy, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Christian Death, they were all the beginning of real gothic music.

  • I agree with you vampiroangelico. A lot of people that call themselves 'Goth' are not even aware of this..shame.

  • And that leads the majority of people to have a wrong idea of what goth music sounds like, they get the wrong idea of what goth people dress like and behave like, and they get the wrong idea of what goth people stand for.

I remember those days, I started listening to The Mission, The Cure and Christian Death back in the early '80s.

    "I", am a real goth.

  • @vampiroangelico I SO agree. :o)

  • @vampiroangelico The Cure? Goth? Bit of a stretch don't you think? Maybe pornography but that's it. Sisters of Mercy yes, Siousxie, not really. Bauhaus, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Nina Hagen, Joy Division, velvet underground, theater of hate.. that's early goth.

  • @losghost The Cure are definitely goth! In their own way, with their own style, and definitely not only goth (the reason why I love them so much is because they have a bunch of other influences), but they're definitely categorizable under the goth label.

Especially in the '80s, soundwise AND lookwise.

  • @vampiroangelico apart from the sisters and the cure were never goth.. lol

So Andrew and Robert keeps saying, neither band want any association with it. it does kinda cheeping the music,

  • @MephProduction Andrew and Robert can say that all they want, provided that it's even factually accurate, but from a musician's (me) perspective, everything, from the chord progressions, the arrangements, the lyrics, the dark look, the make-up, have some association with goth music, to one extent or another, and I do not believe for a minute that saying "goth" cheapens the message expressed by their music and lyrics.

  • @vampiroangelico I agree. I am also a musician. Of course Eldritch is not going to say, "Hey guys were goth." If the bands listed below are not goth, then goth must be a figment of our imaginations, and never really existed at all

  • @DeeDubStyle619 Very well said!

THEY are the ones who defined goth to begin with!

It's like saying Bill Clinton is not a Democrat because he ran his administration somewhat conservatively.

    BS!

  • @vampiroangelico I completely disagree, Especially with the Cure who have always hated the tag and never understood it, We all know Andrew's/sisters take on the issue his always making that public how much he hates Goths and don't when them at his gigs. you said it yourself "some association" Your entitled to your opinion, but in my eyes theses are just dam good rock music, and quirky too.

  • @MephProduction Rock music with a dark twist = goth, to various extents.

  • @vampiroangelico Don't forget fields of the Nephilim, They were the only ones to admit they were a goth band.

  • @7PsycoMantis7 I like them too. I could not mention all the bands I like because I ran out of space!

    :-)

  • @vampiroangelico NOT REALLY THIS IS POST PUNK, THIS IS NOT GOTH..... man you dont know anything about music......... this is POP POST PUNK:::::::: the sisters are goth............ the mission are no diff to U2 or simple minds............

  • @johannesjuanes "The sisters are goth" hey, don't say that to eldritch hahaha

  • @NualaBugeye NUala the SISTERS ARE IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN....... I know they dont like to be called goth..... and I think many of their songs arent´goth either.. The thing is we enjoy great music where there is class and that makes the diff... I am sure we all like BOWIE in here and the great bands.... dont we?

  • @johannesjuanes You claim "I" don't know anything about music?

Let's see....you claim The Mission is not goth....are you able to determine the difference between the lyrics of Wayne Hussey, and those of Bono and Jim Kerr?

If you're not, you know nothing about dark poetry, which mixed with dark chord progressions and arrangements make goth music.

  • @vampiroangelico I dont like labels in music that´s all..... The Mission are not as obscure as the sisters and they´re not goth in that way .... I am not a goth and I fucking hate labels.... I´ve been into music for all of my life and I like all GOOD music.... fucking hate labels..... MY fav band was the smiths but I like bowie and the cure ...... any quaLITY POP BAND.......

  • @vampiroangelico the mission are indeed into my list. the fact goths listen to the mission doesnt turn their music into the same league as say xmal deustchland fields of the nephilim or other 80´s goth bands. Would you say the cure are also goth?

  • @vampiroangelico Yes, so true! And it`s a shame that nowadays when you say goth music people think of bands like nightwish,epica...

  • @maleficrose Bands like Nightwish and Epica are 90% metal and MAYBE 10% goth.

That whole style of music is very lame, the musicianship is lacking, the creativity is lacking.... The only "goth metal" bands that are creative are Type O Negative, 69 Eyes, HIM and Lacuna Coil (which is no longer goth, since the last 2 albums).

  • @vampiroangelico yea man i totally agree with u bout goth tunez, i was listenin to this bout 15 yrs ago, the cure and fields of the nephilim r my TOTal FAv goth esk bands, there just r not bands like this nowadays, wish i could go back in time...lol....

  • @vampiroangelico I couldnt agree more!

  • @vampiroangelico You forgot Joy Division and Bauhaus

    I agree though.

  • @vampiroangelico the beggining the middle and the end in my opinion , first and last and always

  • @vampiroangelico i agree. oh and Bauhaus are great

  • @vampiroangelico I agree in almost all... But, "The Cure"??? Are you insane?

What about Sex Gang Children, The (awesome, unique, fantastics) Cult?, And Fields of the Nephilim, etc?

All them deserve a fist place, before "Cure".... That wasn't Goth!!!

  • @vampiroangelico THANK YOU!! That's what i've been trying to tell my 10 y/o daughter, who shows an interest in the goth (and emo) genres.Must be genetic cause I was a teen back in the day when these bands were in their heydays.Still though, their music is timeless to me and I still love to listen to it! :-)

  • just damn... how can they make such a shitty video for such an incredible song, it's just a ridiculous quality mismatch right there.

  • Lol, I think the video's funny.

yeah, it's really corny, but it's entertaining, too.

  • Was that not the Stig's precursor driving that Cadillac?!

I think we should be told.

    Good Wickerman refs as well.

  • I've never seen such a massive difference between the quality of a song and the quality of the music video. This is probably one of the best goth rock songs ever recorded, and probably one of the most amateurish music videos I've ever seen in my life.

  • for some odd reason this video... along with Severina... does not show up on my iPhone...

    anyone else having this problem?

  • yes neither work on Nokia 5800's either...damn it

  • hehe this video is hilarious for sure :-)

  • I always forget about this weird old video until I actually want to hear the song. Fellow YouTube users: stop fighting and "hating" on other people for comments they leave. Don't like what they say? Fuck it, don't read 'em. We're all here for videos, just shut the hell up and watch them. It's pointless to fight with one another.

  • What's the matter with the comments section on every youtube video? There always seems to be a mutual "exchange" of hatred.I think the video is hilarious which is perhaps what the band want it to be like in the first place. And Waynne Hussey's androgynous appearance is adorable.I'm not a girl or a homosexual man but just think what Bowie did in the '70s.

  • pretty much!if you were "there" it seemed normal.anything in retro looks odd.wayne dated julianne from all about eve,so hes not "gay"....i love you.

  • I don't know, perhaps,on a higher level, they were trying to show that the traditional distinction between male and woman has become obselete or it was just a way of provoking those conservative minds unable to accept a somewhat ambiguous appearance. And of course Hussey is not homosexual.

  • alright, maybe it's just me... but even for back then, isn't this video just a little faggy?

  • No, but your pretty faggy.

  • wow, dude, that was a fucking clever response.

by the ways, dumbass, it's 'you're', not 'your'. Your shows posession as you're is a contraction of the words 'you' and 'are'.

    Go back to preschool, fucktard.

  • Now your just making up words you fuckwad.

  • be gone, stupid one, I like the song, I just think the video's a little gay.

Stop being a child trying to flame.

  • Never call me childish until you have reached my age. Now go listen to Lady Gaga you conformist human.

  • you may be an old bastard, but there's no way in hell you can be considered mature with how you're acting.

    have a nice evening, prick.

  • And calling someone a prick is mature? Sometimes I don't know why I even came here. Your all alike. Maybe it would be better if you all die...

  • You're not an alien. Shut up

  • Of course not.

  • o.k buddy if you are an alien, make a video to prove yourself

  • ahhaha take a look at the drum from 1:27 hahahah.

    Best Video Ever!!!!!

  • love the groove of craigs bass playing ,he really drives this song just like in wasteland and Severina, a really talented band, not sure about Waynes lipstick tho!!!lol!

  • good memmories, great song, great band

  • nice song, but whats with the vid? rofl

  • think garden of eden

  • fair enough :)

  • wayne's jacket is awesome jusy like ville valos with all the filigree

  • this song is really similar to 'the 69 eyes - brandon lee" ie the chorus

  • "oh look i'm sooooo gothic" I just love Hussey :)

  • My favourite band of 80' with U2. And this is one of my favourite song about this wonderful band. I saw them live two times in the 80' and also one year ago.For me they are always great

  • This vid is soooo bad,you keep having to watch it, to tell yourself it's real!!!

A brilliant catchy track with G8 jangly guitars & a rhythm/energy rarely found in todays music..

  • bons tempos de roles noturnos com as morceguinhas..

  • thx, could you perhaps give me more bands? I'd like to expand my music collection.. I most of all love bands like the Mission, sisters of mercy, fields of the nephilim and HIM..

  • try bauhaus, depeche mode

  • The cure, Abney park, Pink turns blue,The danse society, All about eve, Dead can dance, The last dance, Elusive, Phantom vision

  • Try Nightwish,Epica,Within Temptation,Sirenia,Delain(Brilliant,coming to uk november)......Rock on...

  • there is alot 80's music nowadays.

just check bands like : clan of xymox, mors syphilitica, switchblade symphony, peter murphy, london after midnight.

    or download winamp> aol radio> alternative> gothic .)

  • the video is so funny

I love the band, the song, the lyrics

why can't they make this kind of music these days?

I've never lived in the 70s/80s.. but I wished I did.. the music from nowadays is horrible

  • Really bad video, don't know what they were thinking. The music was good though

  • It's a great song but the singer's a prat. Remember him acting like a tit on the James Whale show & getting chucked off.

The video now playing must have cost at least £1.50.

  • omfg,, i remember this vid on "the chartshow" with h.u.d.,,how old am i? lol

  • I like the song and I like the band but video wtf?

  • I really do not care that Mission always were regarded as pompeous and poor quality,I LOVE their early records both music lyricks and the beautiful voice of Wayne Hussey..
