Wow...I love this video. I've been listening to Bossa Nova off and on for almost fifteen years but never got into it as deep as I have recently. I never knew how Vinicius was so influential, but I had to laugh at his quirky set up: singing seated, with a bottle of whiskey and his cigarettes. Still his passion is infectious--and of course even better withTom Jobim. By the way, he seems tanked.

Last post continuation.... take a look at the song Berimbau....the link is on the right from 1 minute on... he sings...."if wasn't for love" or "if there wasn't this love" "...this pain" "...the suffering" "...the crying" "It would be better for everything to end" (like, "life") coming to his point... "what I suffered for love no one did" "but what I know is that no one ever had more than I did" something like... Pain is a fair price for true Love.

- Go! Go! Cry

like an imperative verb..

He says before...

ask your Orixa, love is only good when it hurts

(which is kind of what is kind of the soul of bossa-nova...like the Blues, in which you have a lot of pain, but the song comes out beautiful and powerful...but in bossa-nova, it comes out really chilled)
