This really is fantastic. I remember buying this LP practically the moment it came out. I was 14 at the time I reckon, and I took for granted there were great records like this coming out once or twice a year, Tom Petty & the HB, Led Zeppelin's last record, Townshend's "Empty Glass". Where the hell has it gone? Though Hynde's songwriting genius and Chambers' drumming were retained, something was lost with Farndon and especially with James Honeyman-Scott, RIP, so charming and unassuming here.

these were lazy hazy days for me so i didn't know if the record skipped or if i was imagining things. you can never recapture those times except by hearing these songs.

It's really sad looking back being in high school when they 1st hit the scene. Funny story, in 1980 there were 2 main FM radio stations in LA, KMET and KLOS. The program manager for KLOS said he would never give air time to the Pretenders cause punk would never fly on a rock station, even though Brass in pocket was #1 and all over the airways. He was fired a week later, true story. Living through the era, watching rockers drop dead from drugs I chose Jesus. Hope you all and rockers do too. Live!

this had a retro 60s sound too after the polished sound of disco came to an end.
pretenders were the best "new" early 1980s band. when i first heard this in 1980 thought the record was skipping around 1:39
these were lazy hazy days for me so i didn't know if the record skipped or if i was imagining things. you can never recapture those times except by hearing these songs.

This is a great version of "Stop Your Sobbing." The Pretenders did a wonderful job, especially the lead singer! Too bad I am a true Kinks fan, or else I would say that you performed this song the best!

A classic KINKS/Ray Davies tune done by the ultimate fem rocker ever. She has not lost her touch....great live band....It's hard to beat the James/Pete chemistry.....but she is still tops. Chrissie has it all & oh how I wish I had her.
KROQ early 80's a time as amazing as the mid-late 60's.

Yeah I agree the real Pretenders rocked. Every album after the first 2 seem to really suck. Like she lost the ability to be cool and rock without the original line up.

I also love the story that blames Delilah for being a traitor. She cut off Samsons hair although in another version she gets a barber to do it for her. SAMSON TORTURED SMALL ANIMALS! I proudly eat meat, but Samson is not a hero, he is a serial killer. Delilah is not a temptress, she is a hero for fuck's sake...

Almost. Sampson is a picture of all of men today without the Lord leading our lives. David was the same, had to get the girl, and both lost everything and risked the lives of everyone around them to do it. But both were made right with their God and in the end came out like pure gold but now without being burned.

Oh, and Jesus said to those that think they can serial sin, "I never knew you," so a truly repented believer isn't in the group of those who would torture small anything. If you chose to do so, read Proverbs some day, all the way through and send back to me the verse where the Lord explains what He feels about those who torture small animals. Yes, you may have to read slowly verse by verse and learn more than you've learned in a lifetime, but you'll eventually get to the verse I'm talking about

There you will read on preserved rock walls of israel leaving egypt and the eye witness reports of the red sea. Travel and see archeology proving biblical accounts, maybe stop at turin italy and see the cloth that Jesus resurrected out of. Study history, outside of the bible and see how nothing in the bible has been disproved, ever. Look at islam today and see why god told moses to....

Also I believe the bible says something about a roman leader being alive in Jesus time, I forget his name, but Richard Dawkins reminds us that this man actually died before Jesus was even born, so the dates are wrong.

It's really sad looking back being in high school when they 1st hit the scene. Funny story, in 1980 there were 2 main FM radio stations in LA, KMET and KLOS. The program manager for KLOS said he would never give air time to the Pretenders cause punk would never fly on a rock station, even though Brass in pocket was #1 and all over the airways. He was fired a week later, true story. Living through the era, watching rockers drop dead from drugs I chose Jesus. Hope you all and rockers do too. Live!
