  • Ur fukn kidding me lol I just orded a whole set of solenoids from "bursons" a auto motive joint that's ment to no wtf there on about n they sold me every 1 except those do I changed'em only to find out I still only have 1st and 2nd gear $200 bucks later. Cheers fa that vid man I'm gunna go of me head at these clowns.

  • Info from kxmoney65 came from hpjunky70. If you need a universal kit for you 700r4 let me know. Their not all the same and you want a user friendly one that is resonably priced.

  • My trans came as a package so they installed a converter lock-up kit but what needs to be done is to install a universal lock-up kit. It will have a vacume switch that will mount on the outside of the case. Most of the kit is inside the pan but it easy to install. You will now have 2 wires. Red and grean. The red goes to keyed on power and the green is opptinal and will allow you to lock the converter on a grounded toggle switch in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear.

  • Oops i forgot about that. That's for your torque converter lock-up. Does it have 2 wires or 4?

  • Ok and what scan tool that's moderately priced to reset the TAP values, or Transmission Adaptive Pressure?

  • I wanted other peoples opinions on this matter because you said the 4l60e is a different animal than the 700r4. The e in 4l60e is for electronic. Everything else is the same. I was cross refenceing your statment. I said sorry if i pissed you off and i guess that's wasn't enough. Also the trans arn't vaguely different. If your buying parts they come up for 4l60e/700r4. The parts are the same. If you can't handle people throwing in comments don't post. Your being a bitch now. I alread said sorry.

  • I'm going to throw this out here for people to chew on. YAYINGTON has stated a 4l60 is a completly different animal than a 4l60e (im sure it is) wich is the same as a 700r4. I am working on a 95 chevy truck that had a 4l60e from the factory and i put a 700r4 in it when i went carborater because they are the same thing. The 4l60e is computer controlled and the 700r4 is manual and that fixed my trans controller issues. 4l60e is the same trans as the 700r4 outside of how it's controlled.

  • @hpjunky70 I'm not sure what you're throwing out here for people to chew on? I also have no idea what gave you the idea to send me that last email which felt very hostile, and a bit insulting coming from a stranger who moments ago asked for help with a problem. Let people chew on that. You are saying the 4l60e and the 700r4 are the same transmission, and yet you point out the largest difference. The 4l60e is only vaguely similar to the 700r4 (Which is also called the 4l60)

  • @Yayington Could you put a 700r4 in a 1995 chevy s10 that has a 4l60e in it?

  • @kaysmama2011 Yup. That's what i just did. I would only do it if you were going to a carborated engine though but if you have one just lyin around it will bolt right up and work fine. I've done it 3 times now so if you have any questions let me know. Take a look at your t-case and there should be a plug at the back just in front of the tail shaft. Mark that because it controls your speedo. You shouldn't need any other plugs of the wiring harness.

  • @hpjunky70 What about the white oblong square plug on the drivers side on 700r4 transmission what did u do with that plug? The transmission came out of a 1992 jimmy blazer that was bolted to a four three vortec! The motor thats in our chevy s10 has a spider in it and is a vortec!

  • @kaysmama2011 Also there is a selecter switch bolted to the 4l60e that tells the computer what gear your in. You won't be able to bolt that to the 700r4. Remove it from the 4l60e and make sure it's in the park position and zip tie it up out of the way. You won't have the nuetral safety switch anymore so becareful there. If the switch isn't in the park position your truck won't start.

  • @hpjunky70 Another thing. You will need a TV cable for the trans to kick down when you step on the gas. My engine has a huge cam and i don't have enough vacume to use the vacume switch so i do it manually with a toogle switch. I can now look my converter in 2nd 3rd and 4th gears which is nice for towing. I know where to get this stuff cheap and most importently the one's i know of are simple to install and adjust.

  • @hpjunky70 Could you put a 700r4 in a 1995 Chevy s10 that has 4l60e in it?

  • would this fix a problem with my 1999 chevy blazer when i do 70-75 with a cold tranny it will run at normal rpm but once it warms up it will run at 3100 rpm doing 70 75 what are your thoughts

  • I have a 1993 chevy s10. supposedly the trans was built about a year ago. shifted fine when I got it but after a month or so it would start popping out of gear in drive. I could go to low manually and shift up and it worked fine. what could cause this?

  • i have a 94 c 1500 and had the trans rebuilt and now it shifts to 3rd by 15 mph and if i put it in manual 1st it will shift to 2nd, but if i unplug the DRAC or the vss it will hold manual 1st and 2nd but has no 3rd or 4th. please help

  • I just bought a 95 s10 with this transmission and it hesitates to shift into 2nd,it only happens when shifting into 2nd. You have to let off the gas to get it to shift, you think it could be the solenoid?

  • Is that everybody? lol, I hope so. People, if there are any more questions, I highly recommend emailing me here on youtube, as I can't reply anymore for some reason.

  • Weasel: (Cont.) but you can drop the pan, and unplug the TCC solenoid. Test drive the vehicle with that unplugged, and if the issue is gone, then you can narrow the issue down to an electronic issue.

But first, drop the pan, and with the key on, engine off, and the vehicle (Properly supported of course. Set the P-Brake!) in reverse, use an ohmmeter and test the TCC solenoid circuit for a short to ground. and compare the readings to other gear ranges. There should always be infinite ohms.

  • Weasel: A shudder condition is more often than not an issue with the torque converter. I'm a little suprised that it only happens in reverse, and it would make me think of a potential cross leak in the valvebody between the reverse, and TCC (Torque converter clutch) hydraulic circuits. Considering the problem goes away when you remove power to the transmission however, I'd suspect a faulty TCC solenoid, or possibly a wiring issue. It's a bit of work just for a test, (Cont.)

  • No mercy: I'm a little rusty at remembering, lol. It's been awhile since I've actually been able to work on these units. If I recall, the 1-2 is the one pictured that I am 'not' replacing in this video.

But for the cost effectiveness, I Highly recommend replacing all the solenoids while you're in there. It's a matter of time before these suckers go bad. Fluid is too expensive to keep dropping the pan, in my opinion.

  • Well, I'm trying to reply to you guys, but Youtube seems buggy, and won't let me...ssoooo...lol

    Here we go.

Will & tech101: missing 2nd gear could imply a stripped sunshell, or 2-4 band failure possibly. If 4th, and reverse work fine, I'd first suspect a sticking 1-2 shift valve. Drop those pans, pull out the 1-2 solenoid and remove the shift valve. It just slide out from behind the solenoid. move it in and out of the bore. there should be NO, and I do mean NO roughness at all.

  • I am on the same page as Itttech101. I have an 01 Silverado and just finished the solenoid replacement as well as a filter replacement and I am still having the same problem. The tru ck runs fine in 1st revs high to about 3500-4000 rpms then shifts into 3rd. There seems to be no slipping, however I have no second gear... there wasnt too much debris in the pan, but I was looking over the service and it didnt have a service for about 100k miles... the fluid was black.. any suggestions

  • do u know what ones 1-2 2-3 in your video? i dont got the book for the astro im too cheap lol

  • @yayington, I have a 04 silverado with a crewcab 1500, and my problem is I have to ramp up the rpm's so that the gear will change. And I think my second gear is out, but I dont wont to have to buy a transmission if the problem smaller. Or should I say smaller. Tell what you think

  • I think my tranny 4l602 is causeing a vibration/shudder in reverse, no problem with other gears. I can remove my fuse in dashboard and problems seems to go away, I can replace fuse and the vibration returns in reverse. Any Ideas of what it could be.

  • @Weasel84x What fuse?

  • @Yayington Sorry. It the fuse in the panel that is Labeld "Tranny".

  • mine is a awd astro 95 but same tranny i think mine says its a 4l60e if i took the solenoid from an older modle would it work in my 95?

  • @nomercy3000 1-2 solenoid. start there. solenoid from any 4l60e will fit. Just buy it new. they cost under 40$ each.

  • would you know why my tranny wont shift out of 1st gear? befor i can give it gas and it well shift but know it wont shift at all

  • @nomercy3000 What year make and model vehicle? If it's an old hydraulic transmission, than either a stuck Throttle valve, or a bad Governor valve. Later model eletronic transmissions, look into the Shift A(1-2) solenoid, or a possible shift valve sticking.

  • cool looks pretty easy . i got a 93 4l60 under a offroad truck. been using this truck for about 3 years and havent changed the fluid since i put it in, i check it regularly and there appears to be no water or anything in it. last time out i noticed its starting in 2nd gear so its go no power. figured its time to change the fluid and ill try swapping this out to see if it corrects the problem

  • @fattpieceofcrap I'm afraid that won't solve your issue. Your transmission is in what is called 'limp home' mode. A failsafe feature to let you drive on what the cars' systems deem a 'critical fault'.

Possible causes range from the transmission losing it's main electrical power source.

Engine misfires, or engine related sensor failure.

In some cases the PCM itself can be at fault.

Get the codes checked on it and make sure the engine is running properly first.

  • my 4l60e wont shift to 4th ???? what's the problem ?

  • @evils1z28 Are there any more symptoms to work with? Are you sure it's not going into 4th for sure? And you aren't mistaking the Torque Converter lock up engagement with the 3-4 shfit? It's pretty common.

  • @Yayington I dont understand the torque converter if it locked or not. now when i hit the gas the trans vibrates , and it wont shift to 4th even in normal driving.

  • @evils1z28 Has any work been done to the car recently? Say when the problem started? A mis adjusted shift linkage could cause you to think you're in OD, but in fact in the 3 position.

Try finding an open road, and start from a stop with the gear selector in 1. Shift up one gear position at a time as you accelerate and confirm that 4th isn't there for sure.

What you describe as 'Shuddering" sounds torque converter related.

  • @Yayington Nothing done to the transmission, except for the solenoids change, where is the shift linkage ? I hope the transmission is fine , I hope it's only the converter or something small .

  • @evils1z28 Try when it is shuddering, while maintaining throttle, use your other foot to lightly press the brake pedal, just enough to turn on the brake lights. If the vibration goes away immediately, the torque converter is your problem. They aren't cheap, be warned, and removing the transmission is require to replace it, but it is cheaper than a new transmission.

If this problem started right after the solenoid swap, I'd be confused. There isn't much you can do to screw up a job like that.

  • Hi, Thank you for the video! I have a 2000 Silverado Z71 4x4 and when you put it in drive from P N or R I have to wait a second other wise if I gas it right away, it will slamm into gear. It also jerks hard 1st-2nd with up to 30% acceleraion. Everything else is fine. No "check engine" light. I checked the fluid level and it is at proper level. The "service 4wd" light comes on at times. Any thought? Please let me know. Thanks.

  • Possibly a sticking 1-2 solenoid, or shift valve inside the valvebody is sticking.

If you can jump the solenoid so that it turns on and off, listen for a delay before it turns on. Also listen to the sound of the solenoid. it should sound crisp and loud. if it's muffled, or quiet, replace it.

  • @Yayington Thank you for the fast reply. I was looking @ solenoids and I was wondering, does the same solenoid fit both A and B? do you know a web site where I can get the correct solenoids? I want to change both.

Also how would I jump the solenoids so theat it tuns on and off? I'm a noob thank you for any help.

  • @TheKnightwalk3r Best bet is a dealership for the solenoids. In this transmission the solenoids are universal, for 1-2 and 2-3. I'm not sure about an Astro, and what transmission it uses.

To jump the solenoid, simply unplug it, and run one wire from a 12V source (Battery) to terminal A of the solenoid. And another wire to terminal B. Ground the terminal B wire, and it will engage the solenoid.

Use the factory wire colors to find Terminal A and B. The neutral color wire, is terminal B.

  • @Yayington Thank you for the fast reply. I was looking @ solenoids and I was wondering, does the same solenoid fit both A and B? do you know a web site where I can get the correct solenoids? I want to change both.

  • Hello, I have a 02 astro and it's jurks (hard shifting) when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I herd replacing the solenoids would fix this problem, would it? all other gears work fine.

I just bought the van and I'm out of cheese, please help!!!! I apriciate any input you can provide Thank you.

  • @TheKnightwalk3r Also, when the solenoid is removed, you can remove the 1-2 shift valve from the valve body. Try sliding it back and forth in it's bore. If it gets caught on ANYTHING, or feels rough at all, you'll need to replace the valve, and possibly the valve body. It should slide like it's resting on a cloud.

In some cases small burrs will form on the shift valve, and in some cases you can VERY carefully clean the burrs off

  • Greetings! I have a 2004 f250 XLT Super Duty V10, and recently my truck would drive and shift flawlessly from 1st to 2nd just fine, but for some reason it would shift into 3rd or 4th gear, also my over drive button is flashing, what could be the problem? I did some research and read many forums and thinking that the shift solenoid could be a possibility. Thanks in advance for any help!

  • @ducknbean I'm unfamiliar with the transmission in that vehicle, but the best place to start would be to have the PCM scanned for trouble codes. Lots of places do this for free now. Autozone for example. If there is a code for a shift solenoid, then it is likely the cause. Other codes that may come up involve "Gear ratio incorrect"

  • another question The scan takes medan codes Decoding help me

  • if speed is not Camia agrarrada 3 third

  • @rapsag1974 I wish I understood your language right now. :)

If it won't upshift after replacing both solenoids, it's likely a wiring fault, or the PCM (powertrain control module).

You may well have to take it into a service shop to have it diagnosed if you aren't comfortable diagnosing wiring issues.

  • @Yayington remains at 2, the three did not change constant speed gracias

  • @rapsag1974 lo que veo que el traductor no ayuda mucho gracias yayington muchicimas gracias

  • @rapsag1974 lo que veo que el traductor no ayuda mucho gracias yayington muchicimas gracias

rapsag1974 I see that the translator does not help much thanks thanks muchicimo yayington

  • the only problem does not change only offer up to 3 solenoids a and b change

  • such yayington have a good day and replace the solenoid but remained the same no change to 3 which will be the problem but I suggest a package you will aga

  • @rapsag1974 Hm. Well let's look at this again.

When driving normally when the 2-3 shift should occur, I understand that it is staying in 2nd gear? Not upshifting as it should? Or is it slipping? Feels like it goes into neutral?

  • @Yayington I just agradesco your support so I saw another solenoid that will not change the wiring does not believe that either since pcm 30min journey. normal change se lo puedo escribir en español y usted lo traduce

disculpe los contratiempos que le ocacionose lo puedo escribir en español y usted lo traduce

disculpe los contratiempos que le ocaciono

  • @rapsag1974 PCM can have intermittant issues. I have seen them before. Also wiring could very well be intermittant. Though this does sound to be a bigger issue than I can diagnose over the internet unfortunately.

  • @Yayington I mean any way thanks for the time

  • @rapsag1974 Ah, Very good. Lol It's my pleasure, Sorry I couldn't be more help.

  • que tal yayington que tenga buen dia ya cambie las solenoides pero quedo igual no cambia a 3 cual sera el problema que mas me suguiere usted que le aga

  • I need your help hey friend can you tell me what is the solenoid blazer third quarter of 1995, as the chiro change but not what it is. in fact are the two first, second and third quarter walking failing me appreciate your help thank you

  • @rapsag1974 I'm sorry, I can't understand what it is you're asking?

  • @Yayington such a very good friend but now I understand your videos with the other video: not pure fact he had seen the video and audio do not understand English and I do not understand this so ago with a translator just wanted to know which houses the solenoids I need to know where the filter is located thank you very much for your reply thanks.

  • @rapsag1974 I think I understand. :) The solenoids are in plain sight once you remove the transmission pan. You will have to remove the filter, to access them. Pull firmly on the filter with a rotating motion, and it will come out. Then just observe the video for how to replace these two solenoids. I recommend replacing both at the same time.

  • @Yayington thank you very much for your prompt response if the problem I have is this to work the truck does not grab the change to third pole, which is heated something I think the solenoid because the circular city after 20min. change as normal, not skating, not kick revolutionizes not run well no more, that detail your cooperation could I comment on why I appreciate a lot if I'm not mechanical simplente owner of that truck I'm from mexico gto

  • @rapsag1974 Are you saying as it warms up it slips going into third? The most common failure in these transmissions, is the 2-3 clutch packs burning up. Solenoids won't cause a slipping issue. But if the 2-3 sloenoid were bad, the transmission may act like it doesn't want to go into third, rather it will just stay in second.

  • @Yayington if so it stays in second and third time change entonses Will the solenoids? to change or what the problem

  • @rapsag1974 Right, if it sticks in second, or even skips third all together and goes right into fourth, then the 2-3 solenoid is the most likely cause.

  • @Yayington if so it is stuck in second what you design is confirmed that indeed I owe the full support and thank you for your help ?'??? deceo you luck in your business aaaaaa is you who appears in the video many thanks

  • @Yayington I commented that that's what he said then I desplasar the solenoids many thanks and if it is you who then appear in the video

  • @rapsag1974 Yep, that's me. :) A much younger me now, haha From what I understand it sounds like the solenoid is bad. Hopefully this is your issue, and can be easily fixed!

  • @Yayington thanks again I'll take truth as I have no mechanical confiansa in many echo me I owe the help I have with that problem as two months luck to you

    EscucharLeer fonéticamente

  • @Navreet5264 Hello, I'm not familiar with your transmission, so I can not help you with that, unfortunately. This transmission in the video is a General Motors unit. Sometimes the solenoids are external, sometimes internal. You may be best off asking a dealer where it is, or trying your luck with a Haynes manual or the like. Though I don't recommend those manuals for anything.

  • I posted on here about a month ago and asked your opinion as to what you thought was causing my problem (read below). Man, I gotta say, your awesome. Your really know your stuff. I pulled the tranny apart today and just as you said, it was the sprag clutch. Thank you very much for your help.

  • @joepinder2000 Glad I could help! :) I'm sorry it couldn't be an easier fix, but regardless, I'm glad you're getting it taken care of.

  • thank you very much Sir, this will help me for sure

  • I have a 96 Chevy S-10, when I put the tranny into OD or D, I don't move, I put into 1st or 2nd, I move normally. Once I'm up to about 25 in 2nd and shift into D or OD, the tranny will up shift through 3rd and 4th and downshift properly as well. After I do this I can stop and start in D or OD a few times with no issues but after a few times of slowing to a stop, as the tranny shifts into 1st, I hear a bang and then I lose D and OD and have to start all over, shifting into 1st or 2nd then back up

  • @joepinder2000 One of the the sprag (One way) clutches gave out. Rebuild or replace.

  • @Yayington No other possiblities? Electronics maybe

  • @joepinder2000 somebody told me to check the wiring, and something about a pick up in the pain?

  • @joepinder2000 Unlikely. especially the bang you mention, sounds like the sprag slipping. Check the fluid for metal contamination. The magnet in the pan may well have picked any or all of it up, so you may have to drop the pan. Otherwise, look for any metallic substance on the dipstick.

  • @Yayington I have dropped the pain, there was a nice thick collection of really fine metal dust on the magnet, it was so fine that it mixed with the tranny fluid and mad a silver magnetic sludge. It was built up maybe an 1/8th inch thick on top of the magnet. There was no large chunks at all, just the metal dust. This tranny is a rebuild w/ about 40,000 miles

  • @joepinder2000 I was kind of hoping the metal in the pain was just from normal wear and tear after the rebuild

  • @joepinder2000 Unfortunately, no. Possibly if gear sets were replaced, There would be some. But most rebuilds reuse sprags, and gear sets. Just replacing clutch packs and seals. But regardless, that is a worrisome amount of metal.

Any abnormal reverse behavior? any noises in OD or D position? Any abnormal noises when shifting into low? Any details help, but I'm afraid it doesn't sound good.

  • @Yayington No theres nothing else that is wrong, no noise other than what I had mentioned, when I get into D or OD, it shifts up and down fine and acelerates great. 3 out of 4 times when I stop I can take off in D or OD with no noise or issues, it's just that 4th time when I stop and it shifts down into first, I hear a "light bang" or clunk, it's not loud at all and it sometimes sounds like it's in the rear end or behind the cab.

  • @joepinder2000 Then, to confirm, it just behaves as though in neutral until you put it into Low?

  • @Yayington Yeah, I hit the gas and theres nothing

  • @Yayington And i did check the for codes, the only thing thats throwing a code is the heater on 02 sensor 2, Bank 1

  • @joepinder2000 The pickup has nothing to do with this issue. Your issue is not fluid starvation.

For 40k miles that much metal shaving seems unusual. There will always be some, but that's quite a bit. Whn the sprag gives, generally there is no chunks lost, but just an excessive amount of shavings. Better yet, if you can get the filter out and cut the casing open, you can see just how much metal has missed the magnet.

  • @Yayington Cool, I'll check it out soooo there is no other posibilities? Sorry to press but I'm hurting on cash so i want to exhaust all other possibilities, no matter how small

  • @joepinder2000 Not that I can think of off hand. The thing with '96 and up models, electrical issues would start throwing DTC codes, and likely throw the transmission into "Limp" mode, neither of which sounds like what you have going on.

  • @Yayington Ok well thanks for your help and keep posting up these videos, they're great

  • I have a 1995 chevy suburban with a 4L60E transmission never had any problems now it is not up shifting only has 1st gear we have tried everything we can think of except the Solenoids do you think this is our problem??? any help would be greatly appreciated...

  • @sonnyray60 Sounds like the 1-2 solenoid to me. What exactly have you done so far for troubleshooting?

  • @sonnyray60 I checked and cleaned the 1-2 solenoid and now moving to the other solenoids and the valve body.. this has been a major pain and very puzzling it worked fine one day and the next it did this never had any type of problem what so ever... Also have checked the entire wiring harness and the ECM so any other suggestions would be appreciated... and thanks for your advice...

  • @sonnyray60 Cleaning the solenoid won't do anything for it. Replace it. Recommend replacing the 2-3, and 3-2 while you're in there.

  • Hi,

I see two solenoids, should you change them both? Dose the solenoid you remove have a part no. for buying the right part?

    Thanks

  • @oldies789 the 1-2 and 3-4 should be the same part number. I do recommend replacing all solenoids. When in Rome. . .

  • i have a 4l60e out of my 95 4x4 and i pulled it out of a wrecked truck and put it it in mine thinkin that it will still be good but come to find out it was bad because the driveshaft slid out of the truck when it got in wreck and when i put it in 2nd gear it doesnt do anything its like its in neutral...help

  • @FarmerBryant When you put it in 2nd? I'm confused by that, however, no 2nd, 4th, or reverse, and you may hear a high pitched noise in gear would indicate the Reaction sunshell was fractured in the wreck.

  • @Yayington like if i put it in 2nd on the column, but i have reverse

  • @FarmerBryant Oh, okay. So say you stat in L, or 1. it will move fine, but if you shift it to 2, it acts like neutral? at all times? What about if you put it in 3 or OD, does the transmission shift normally through all 4 speeds otherwise?

  • @Yayington nope it doesnt shift at all man

  • @FarmerBryant Okay...So no forward movement in any range? How long did the transmission sit before you put it in your truck? Almost sounds like a valve body issue. Could be the forward clutch pack, but if it worked fine before the wreck, or if it sat around for some time, the clutches would fine still. Is there any noise whatsoever from the transmission when you shift it? whinning, clunking, etc..

  • @Yayington clunking when i put it in gear sometimes

  • @FarmerBryant Yeah, sounds like something in there broke. As if I had to tell you. :) Kind of hard to say without seeing it in person and trying a few things. I wonder if the output shaft didn't crack in the accident. ANy way you can pull the driveshaft and move the output shaft around, turn it even, and see if there are any obvious issues?

  • @Yayington i just got a new trans put in now with 100 day warranty...but thanks for the help anyways man

  • My 98 Chevy S 10 shifts into 3rd, but won't down shift. Will replacing the 2-3 solenoid fix this?

How hard is it to replace that solenoid?

  • @BowlGator I meant the 3-2 downshift solenoid.

  • @BowlGator 3-2 Downshift solenoid. In a 4l60e, it is not any more difficult to replace than the video shows.

  • 97 BMW 528i. I believe it has the 4L60e. It slips between 2 and 3. Like maybe it has a sticky solenoid or something. It also slams into 3rd if I'm going downhill in 2nd and let off the gas. Going uphill or under load is when it slips.

It gets worse in warm weather, to the point where the tranny goes into limp mode.

Im getting ready to check the TPS to see if that might be the culprit. If it's not, is it possible that it might be a lazy solenoid or a plastic part misshapen by heat? TIA

  • I have an 99 intrigue with the 3.5 twin cam v6 i was driving and the car all of a sudden felt like it went into neutral but when i shut the car off for a few minutes and started it back up it drove for like 3 feet and it kept on doing that but i had to do that a few times to get off the highway. then i went to go try it the next morning and it wouldn't go into gear at all wondering if this would have to do with the transmission or with the tranny control Solenoid .... please let me know

  • @TheSteve927 Possibly a pressure control solenoid issue, or another internal fault in the hydraulic system.

The gear selection is fully hydraulic. The shift solenoids, direct fluid to allow an upshift, or downshift.

Your issue would require a specialist to diagnose in person I'm afraid.

  • I have a 2001 Dodge 1500 4x4. If I feather feed the gas pedal it shifts out fine it seems. However, if I take off from stop rather quickly or even at normal rate of cars beside me, my truck will hesitate to shift into 2nd or 3rd, but engine rpms will increase significantly. Do I need solenoid replacement or have bombed the whole tranny?

  • @bamrboy99 An issue with the hydraulic pressure, is what this sounds like off hand. If you increase the throttle, but the pressure won't increase, then the transmission will slip.

Possible fault in the pressure control solenoid. But there is a chance that the clutches are burnt p now and might require an overhaul.

I would not drive the truck until you have it diagnosed properly. Have a trans shop check your line pressure and throttle pressure.

  • I have a 94 trans Am with an 4L60E auto trans. The car starts up fine, but when i put it in gear the car dies instant. (like i'm driving a manual trans and didn't used the clutch) Would the Shift Solenoid cause this?

  • @mjnolen360 No, sounds like the torque converter lockup clutch is stuck 'applied'

TCC solenoid could be shorted, or in internal valvebody failure could be the cause.

  • hows the weather?

  • i hope your close to colorado lol cuz im down

  • @02superregency Eastern Nebraska actually.

  • @Yayington no shit?! thats not too far but it is a mission is it snowing up there?

  • @02superregency Not yet, but I'm told tomorrow is a 100% chance. /sigh

  • @Yayington my car wont go past 40 mph. its 91 V6 chrysler lebaron. do you think i might have to replace the shifter solenoid?

  • I have an O/D light flashing, code P0750, shift solenoid, issue where I need to replace mine. I have one option which is to buy a whole transmission in a junkyard, (won't sell pieces) for the solenoid(s), or, purchase (possibly) from the dealer but they don't know the model number. There's also a chance they don't have it or won't. Is there a place online as backup? '97 Mazda Protege LX. Comments, ideas or advice? Haynes book offers no detail to which solenoid or color. Thnx. ps. great vid!

  • @frodnew1 I have no idea off hand how the solenoids are set up in that model, but in my opinion, if you're going to have it torn down that far, I would replace all of them. It saves money in the long run potentiall, and eliminates the guesswork. :)

Giving the dealership your VIN number should ensure they get the right parts for your application.

  • @Yayington

I didn't have the VIN at the time of the call to the dealership. Will call tomorrow 4 sure w/it. Appreciate it mucho. Will replace all per advice. Will update soon. Thank U!

  • SHIT your right hahahahah this shit just makes me go crazy! sorry man. hook me up ill drive to you =] haha

  • @02superregency Lol, well come on over! Just get the parts first. ;)

  • hey boss you should take a look at my tranny vid i could really use the help thanks

  • @02superregency I'm the first comment on your video. ;)

  • Have a 95 Blazer, just bought it. the lady said it coded for the shift solenoid and the part was included in the sale, box says 1-2 & 2-3 Shift. What car is doing is it won't go over 25mph and after it hits 25 it just don't want to go any faster. It acts like it doesn't want to shift out of first. Would a shift solenoid make it do that?

  • @mfish1282 That sounds like a solenoid to me. If the 1-2 solenoid is not working, then the car won't upshift.

  • i just got the solenoid out of my blazer thank you if i didn't watch your video it would have took me longer to figure it out i didn't know how to get the clip off and you showed me, my solenoid was broke off in the hole it sucked but thanks to you i got it without having to ask my boyfriend to help now all i have to do is get the new one in and put the filter and pan back on

  • @abby1076 Glad I could help. :)

  • my 1999 s10 2.2 with the 4l60e is hesitant to shifting into 1st gear when I drive it in the morning or after it sits for awhile, after I get it to shift, which just takes it longer than normal to do when driving, it shifts fine. Any clue what could be wrong?

  • @Halljand When exactly is it sluggish to shift? From Park, to Drive? Or that the transmission doesn't want to downshift on the roadway?

  • @Halljand I don't know a lot about transmissions. When I put it in drive it is fine, and when I am accelerating and it shifts around 15mph, it is slow to shift the first couple of times, then it shifts fine. It is hard to explain when I don't know the correct terminology lol.

  • @Halljand Slow to shift, how? Would you say, it shifts late? and maybe more firmly than usual? Or does it seem to slip? By slipping, I mean, do the rpms shoot up during the shift at all?

  • @Yayington its intermittent. It doesn't really shoot up in RPMs, more like...it stays at 2500 or so and then shifts after a few seconds.

  • @Halljand What year, make and model vehicle is this?

  • @Yayington 1999 s10 LS, 2.2l 4cyl

  • @Halljand COuld be a solenoid getting 'sticky' . Especially when you say it's intermittant, that leads me to suspect a solenoid issue.

  • @Halljand I put lucas transmission fix in it just to see if it helped and I think it might have gotten the solenoid sticky...my dad claims my truck doesn't use solenoids though. He called them "modulators" lol, I don't think he knows what he is talking about.

  • my blazer has a 4l60e, and 1st and 2nd gear work and shift fine, but when it shifts out of 2nd its like being in neutral. no burnt fluid or anything, and reverse works and does not slip. some people tell me its a problem with the solenoids, but i would think that it would not shift out of 2nd gear if it was a bad solenoid, right?

  • @twiztiDchevy 3rd clutch is toast. THis is the second most common failure in the 4l60e. R&R

  • @Yayington yeah i figured as much, guess its just time to beef it up a little.

  • @Yayington thanks.

  • Yayington - I have a 2003 Silverado 1500 4x4 with the 4L60e tranny. The tranny shifts sluggishly from 1-2 and 2-3. When shifting from 2-3 you can feel the whole truck move a bit and then it shifts. If it put it in tow mode it shifts hard and not sluggislhy. I had a camper that I pulled with the truck and am wondering if the heavy hauling did something to the tranny. I have cleaned the MAF sensor and that helped the shifting but still not perfect. I added BG conditioner today so too early to tel

  • @Jackball421 All the tow mode does is up the line pressure in the transmission, causing more firm shifting. Heavy towing without using that tow feature tends to build excessive heat in the unit. This can lead to premature failure of the clutches among other things. Check the color of the fluid and the smell. If it is black, or smells burnt, then get ready for a rebuild.

  • @Yayington Fluid smells good and is not dark. Since cleaning the mass airflow sensor had an effect I wonder if its related to the air flow sensor and the shift points.

  • @Jackball421 That's very possible. I would have the vehicle scanned with Tech2 software or an equivalent, and see that the engine isn't misfring, or exhibting any symptoms.

  • @Jackball421 I hate to tell you my opinion on the BG, or ANY additive for transmissions, but I highly, highly recommend NEVER adding anything whatsoever to the transmission fluid. These BG (and others, just using BG as an example) cleaners and conditioners actually soften the clutch material, allowing it to slip more, and essentially rip the clutch material right off the discs.

If it just so happens that your tranny is dirty enough to need cleaners. then it needs rebuilt anyway. My opinion.

  • @Jackball421 All that said. Also look into making sure the engine is running exactly as it should. more than 80% of transmission quality concerns are actually from an issue in the engine.

  • Yayington, can I ask you something? I need some help. I have a 1994 Chevy Blazer Full Size 4x4 with a 4L60E. Its giving me shifting problems and my buddy came over with a Tech2 Scanner. It pulled the code for I think it was 3-2 Shift Solenoid. He said replace em all if your doing one which I am going to but I was checking out Rockauto for the parts and I see 1-2, 2-3 and 3-2 solenoids. What are all the solenoids in my trans? Im getting confused with them.

  • @deepwater1974 the 1-2 and 2-3 solenoids are covered in my video here. the 3-2 solenoid is a round solenoid on the Front, passenger side of the valvebody. It's right next to the dipstick.

  • I have 1994 chevy pickup 4x4 4l60e and its like it just stop moving . but when i cut it off and start it back it will move and stop moving again could that be the solenoid ?

  • @bigfhella Very unlikely.I would need more information on the exact symptoms to help you out though. If you put the trans in ANY gear range, the vehicle will not move? This includes manual low.

    Any abnormal noises?

  • @Yayington I put it in gear it move 3 or 4 feet , then it`ll stop. i`ll have to turn it off & turn it back on & it`ll move again. when its cold it makes a winding sound.

  • @Yayington what will make your transmission go in limp mode ?
