  • great job

  • how much paint did that take?.. i'm about to spray mine..

  • @jbl5342 2.5 quarts not including door jams ect.

  • Shade tree paint shop...

  • @jbrountas lol yea. when i do these jobs people always say i cant believe you did that in your garage, i always say it takes twice as long as it should... i wish i had a paint booth

  • Looks great bud. I need this done to my 82 CJ7. Dude i got it from spray painted one coat of red from the can over the original yellow color. So I get drunk last ngiht and go out start masking stuff off and sanding all over and start spraying primer. I woke up this morning and saw what I had done, so I drove my truck to work today. Not because im embbarssed, but my sweet sexy CJ should not be a target of laghter! LOL

  • @napalmloveskids thank you, lmao wow i would say you need it done for sure, i have done some crazy stuff in the past like that, then learned to do it with a gun, and surprised myself lol that was many years ago. you had me rolling and i didn't even see its lol it unique now one of a kind

  • cool!! I hope you go more in depth, I definitely will watch if you do--bodywork/DIY painting saves so much money than having to pay someone else--

  • @peelout40 i plan on going further with the vids just wanted to see how much interest there was, before putting to much time in it, thanks for the feed back

  • Good Work!!!!! Your the jack of all trades! Nice Video

  • i added a link in the video description, where this paint was purchased i deal with them often

  • Dude ... you effin' ROCK, man!! Seriously ... tranny jobs, paint jobs, everything I'm interested in.

For people that don't want to spray, you can buy Marine topside paint ... Interlux Perfection is a good two-part polyurethane (like Dupont Imron). It is designed for saltwater boaters and is "Self-leveling" (auto paint is not). Use it with a high density roller like boaters do, and then go over it again with a brush. Give it 2 or three coats. Between coats, wet sand with 600 grit.

  • After the last coat, buff- it with rubbing compound and you'll have a beautiful, durable paint job that is equal to Dupont Imron for less than $300. And it's much healthier, because the paint isn't being atomized. You can wear a regular respirator (verified that with a safety officer at OSHA). It's glass smooth, high gloss, and rock hard.

It's more work, but its good for DIY because it doesn't require the spraying equipment, and forgives errors and dust ... people do it in their driveway!

  • @montanasoftware i appreciate the compliment, this is the stuff i grew up doing wish more people were like us, i really enjoy doing this, through all the sweating and prepping. in the end you got something to be proud of. that's something no one can take from you, never tried the marine top side paint, dose it have a nice finish compared to auto paint, as far as orange peel effect etc. thanks for the comment. this enamel flowed like plastic, most of my jobs are 2 stage. i was impressed

  • Hi: It's got a nice glossy finish ... but some guys wet sand after last coat and then rub it out for the gloss. No orange peel because it's applied with a roller. And its durable ... made 4 salt. Mix it thin, so it will self-level, then roll it on with hi-dens. foam roller, then go over wet paint with a hi-quality china bristle brush. After first coat dries, wet sand and repeat.

My only regret is that I can't find a marine clear coat paint. That would give it that super deep wet gloss.

  • @montanasoftware sounds interesting i will check that out, i like quick and done lol one good thing about good quality car paint the way i shot it is the way you see it. no more work, however for the DIY that sounds like a good alternative thank you for sharing.

  • @montanasoftware if you ever need quality automotive paint check out TCP global Restoration shop. great place there is a car i painted 3 stage with flace in there testimonials

  • Without a spray booth, I'm surprised there is not more dirt in the paint. Great Job!!

  • @Bonfield2002 so am i lol, done a few like this, main trick is to hang plastic and wet down the floor put filters in the open windows and box fans under the doors with filters pulling out to create a draft the water on the floor helps keep the dust down move slowly ware lint free suet 1 light coat followed by 1 heavy then leave the shop. let it be the less dust you kick up the better, after 30-40 min any dust that falls on it wont stick give it at least 12hrs till tack free then lightly tack

  • @Bonfield2002 however a paint booth is the way to go, even with that its hard to get it dust free, but a lot less likely. there is some small dust spots however the paint laid nice and its hard to see, and will most likely buff out. not going to bother its a jeep lol

  • nice job wil-------how much do you think a quick paint job like that would cost on my k-5?????

  • @bigpaw64 i added a link in the video description on a good source for automotive paint. results depend on the prep work and painter/equipment let me know if you have any other questions, i don't charge that much to shoot it considering,
