Dale Jarrett was a class act as a driver and is a good commentator in his own right. Still miss seeing that red, white, and blue Quality Care paint scheme.
even 15 years later..the only things that are the same are those Roush 6,99, and 16 cars..none of those other teams even exist.anymore in that top 10...
i had qc everything. after the 99 championship , it seemed he accomplished everything and just quit drving aggressively. iii loved d.j. he will always have a place in my heart but it is anew era go carl edwards!!!!!
I just watched the whole 1996 Daytona 500 and I would say the whole battle between Earnhardt and Jarret was much better in 1996. In 1993 it was only the final two laps. In 1996 it was a good bit of the race. In fact I would say that the 1996 Daytona 500 is very underated. By the way I might put up the finishes to 1980 and 81 in a week or two.
Oh thank you I have now seen every 500 finish from 82-Now. Man another great Dale v Dale showdown. You can tell Earnhardt was putting everything into that last few laps....just the moves he was trying to make he wanted it so badly.
Ned was initially embarrassed about having rooted for Dale in 1993, and I'm sure he wasn't planning to do it again this time until Ken told him to. So Kudos to Ken as well for helping to create another classic NASCAR moment.
Ned Jarret was awesome in the booth...wish we had more people like him (and Bob...and BP...and Buddy...and Ken) *takes a stern look at the current ESPN booth of today*
I was happy for Dale Jarrett, but...good God, I wanted Earnhardt to win this.

anyone else notice how much more vibrant the colors on the camera's got when they started painting the walls white?

@flubber342 The track looks way better on camera once they started painting the walls.

I remember being at this race when I was 8. In the infield on my dad's shoulders to get a better view. Ah memories...

Hearing a dad cheering his son on in a broadcast booth, the raw emotion doesnt get better. It sucks you in, as a viewer. I miss Ned Jarrett.

Ned was a homer all the way. Non-professional at its best... lol
Banger82 3 years ago
Yeah but compared to Darrell Waltrip, Ned doesn't look so bad.

@robmerrill888 yea, great call by ned. This was a great race, nascar was so much better back then
cleasanna05 1 year ago
@robmerrill888 Well, when you win it the first time, it's not as exciting to someone when they see you do it again, and a similar way.

Still haven't forgave Schrader for not helping Dale...

i imagine earnhardt was starting to dislike jarret back then. beaten by jarret twice at daytona.

DJ didnt quit driving aggressively. He lost Parrot, and Yates' cars started running worse and worse.
VirgoDragon092176 3 years ago 2
I sure miss the days when Jarrett drove the Quality Care car, he was a threat at every track.

agree. This was a great race. A lot of different leaders. Schrader should have helped Earnhardt.
