I do wish this had the lyrics on it.... I had forgotten about it. I would like to introduce it to my United Methodist Parish oops....Congregation, I was raised Catholic (once a Catholic always a Catholic... anyway....) I have used "Catholic" music for years, but had forgotten this. I love you tube!
We sang this at our pastor's Ordination Anniversary (10th) last month. This will also be our opening hymn at today's Mass. Father J. wanted this to be played when he was ordained, but it was deemed "inappropriate"... spoilsports! So we sang it for his anniversary-- how fun to see Father singing and springing in his step while the choir was rehearsing this before his Mass! God bless you, Fr. J! <3
I always sing this with my church choir. I usually don't care if we sing it or not, but its a great song, it really is. This song can be very beautiful if you have good singers singing it like I do.
When I look at the world and all of the things that are living and spinning in this beautiful, orchestrated balance, I can not fathom why anyone could NOT (or wouldn't want to) believe in God. It's so magnificent when you can actually thank the One responsible for everything you know--for the music and colors and life.
LET US REJOICE THAT IT HAS BEEN DONE, THAT THING THAT ACEINT, THE SECREAT TO SOME THAT HAS BEEN HIDDEN BY MANY CHURCHES BUT NOT TO St.Francis! WE HAVE TAKEN HIS COVERNANT! IT WAS NOT BY THE POPE OR OUR WORKS BUT BY HIS WORK, BY HIM WE ARE SAVED FOR HE CHOOSES WHO IS SAVED AND WHO WILL BE CASTED OFF!
Much like Christopher Hitchens, I don't believe in religion, but I love religious music. Not contemporary Christian music, but the old hymns. Most good music is fueled by a passion for SOMETHING, so it makes sense that religion would inspire some of the most beautiful melodies. I can appreciate that even while not believing in the religion.
Beautiful song but almost impossible to sing as a congregational hymn as written...they just can't get those 16th dotted 8th runs. We usually just simplify it. And...this is not evil deception...it is St. Francis of Assisi's words. He understood that ALL creation is God's gift, and that gives glory to God!
It's been 5 years since I went from being a catholic to protestant. this is the first time I have heard the song in 5 years. There's a priest I know that likes to dance to the song Father Sinibaldi quite funny!
@mapdok12 I left because my faith was rocked when my priest was accussed of sexually molesting 2 kids in the 70"s. i just recently found out the charges were unfounded. some of these sicko victim's should be ashamed of themselves. the catholic diocese of nh let one heck of a nice priest go.
@1979Beth The bounds of evil are remarkable. If you have no wolves, you're not sheep. Come home Beth, we need you.
Think about this... If you were the evil one, would you go for us pawns out here in the world, or the Lord's bishops and priests? He aims to stop the sacrifice.
But also know, the church has been infiltrated for decades. I'm blessed to have many friends who became priests, God forgive me scandal re: stories i've been told. Pray for all priests and the church.
ALL creation is a testament to the glory and wonder of the LORD and rightly gives Him praise. THAT'S what this wonderful hymn is about. Did you bother listening to the content of the words, or are you just a judgemental anti-Catholic protestant who believes his is the only church who has a right to get into Heaven? How dare you criticize others who express their God given right to praise their Creator!
Oh my gosh.... in elementary school we had Mass every Friday, and whenever this song would play the all of the kids would go crazy 'cause we had motions to go along with the words xD
I don't know, I'm very convinced. They're singing about the joy of the Lord, but they don't sound very enthusiastic to me. I feel like a lot of Catholic songs are sung like that :( Alas.
I'm the guitarist in our contemporary music group at church. We sing this quite often, but mostly at Easter. It's a beautiful song. We beef it up a bit instrumentally and it sounds great!
@gatherusin haha just because someone compased a song doesnt mean everyones going to like the first version. I give him kudos for the song for sure but im just not a fan of his voice. sorry
I have to confess, I love and hate this song. I love it that is is a wonderful praise song, but hate that the fact that when I sing it it takes 2 weeks for it go from my mind rofl. I love this song.
I have the same problem! LOL! The only other problem with this song is that there is a priest I know here in NH and he dances to this song like a BIG DORK! Sorry to This priest that I am making fun of but all I am gonna say is don't quit your day job! LOL!
I've always been a very philosophical person as opposed to a very religious person... but every time I hear this song, I feel a sort of faith that I can't find in any other. =)
I love this song! My dad always sings it out with passion. But it is kind of embarrassing when people start starring. Now people think I'm gonna be some singer.
we used to sing this in high school... every class had tit's own verse to sing... ours was first praise to the death... then changed to praises to the rain... I love it!!!!
I just turned 19 and this is one of my favorite songs since catholic middle school. I can remember listening to this song as far back as 4 years old and I still sing it today to brighten my day when it is down!
I can't believe I have never heard this before. Thank you so much for making it availible. It has truly lifted my mood on a grey, rainy day and put me in a thankful frame of mind.
PAX ET BONUM! to all those who love St. Francis of Assisi.... We sang this song during the Celebration of the TRansitus of St. Francis 2007, a very memorable celebration for us Franciscans

Please correct the sub-title. It should be ...
"Let all of God's Creatures in Heaven and on Earth Praise Him!"
Thanks!

@Halleg11 no, it was most definitely written by St. Francis

@Halleg11 __Definitely by Francis of Assisi who predated the Shakers by a few hundred years.
