  • I just thought of this cartoon this evening and searched for the lyrics as I loved the theme song. Boy I realized I used to butcher the lyrics.

  • I know its wierd, but hey, I used to fancy the main character in this cartoon! I cant remember his name!? You cant help but sing along to the theme tune

  • I loved this series, and so did my deceased (would be 63 now) dad. I used to get up at 5 am every morning as a kid to watch this on nickelodeon right before Mister Wizard's World and another cartoon ... something and the Sun Beneath the Sea. Good times.

  • Wow! Great news, thanks dude :-)

  • The Mysterious Cities of Gold an upcoming animated film based on the 1980s animated television series "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" which is currently under production by the Movie-Plus Group (MPG) and is due to be released in 2008 or 2009.

  • This show should be called anime rather than cartoon because Studio Pierrot animated the television series. Studio Pierrot is well known anime studio in Japan it also has animeted Naruto and Bleech.

  • Almost all the cartoons of 80´s was animated in japan. thudercats and silverhawks was animated by pacific, but produced by ranking bass

  • The Mysterious Cities of Gold is an anime series co-produced by DiC Entertainment and Studio Pierrot. The series premiered in Japan on NHK on May 1, 1982

  • anyone knows how to find the spanish version?

  • I saw the serie in youtube a months ago

  • finally i thought i imagined this its been bugging me for years i knew i saw a cartoon with a eagle type plane

  • I swear I spent months trying to figure out what the name of the cartoon was..I had parts of this theme stuck in my head.

You rock! Thanks for posting this.

  • This was my favorite show at age 7-8, and I was totally obsessed with the Incas because of it! I used to have them all on videotape and used to watch an episode every night but I think over the years someone taped over them--dammit!

  • I suppose the girl is in her 30s now. I wonder if she married... I expect she's in media now, or PR... "sigh"

  • this would be a SICK film

  • It's called Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull ;-)

  • ha ha

  • a great theme song and a great series indeed. i absolutely loved it. they don't make them like this anymore. some cartoons have some abnormal feel to it. or just too damn violent. 80s best decade of cartoons EVER!!!

  • ide forgot about this ,nice one cheers for makin me feel old lol

  • This was the best in the 80's and I believe the UK only just got rights to it this year, also a movie is being made at the moment.

  • what's your source on this?

  • omg, I used to love this song - pity the cartoon was so ropey. But this brings back SO many memories!

  • This cartoon was great! Great plot, characters, and animation. It's even better watching it now.

  • Oh man i'd rush home from school to watch this the theme song is a classic... I totally agree with fakerazoramon I wish this had been repeated for my daughter she'd have loved it.

  • This show was the best and what is sad is that most of my friends don't remember it, but it was on every afternoon at 2:30 Pacific Time on Nickelodeon, I wish kids now could see it!!

  • By the time I started watching it, it came on at 5, sometimes 5:30 in the AM, so most of my friends my age don't remember it. They were probably sleeping at that time, lol.

  • Wow sooo cool! i loved this show when i was a kid :D The themesong definitely brings back memories :)

  • ha ha ha hilarious! Brings back some memories....6 DVD boxset out in Aus next month :D :D

  • This was an absolutely *epic* anime, wasn't it- 39 episodes I believe (about 20 hours), with a killer soundtrack to boot. Had forgotten about the psychedelic intro, mind lol!

Out on DVD in the UK now, I believe... ;-)

  • I actually remembered this childhood gem. Damn, I'm getting old.

  • Sweet brings back good memories, dont make them like this anymore

  • I have all episodes XD my god - so much memories ... and this intro is one of my favourite

  • i'm leaving this message on all my fave cartoons from my childhood, because the probability is, they were yours too!

i watch this, and i regress like 20 years....much like you, but then, we only had four channels!!. does anyone else think it's sad though, that because of the massive amount of channels, children of this era will in 20 years have little to go, oh my god i remeber that! unless it's compeltely commercialised, also, the cartoons then had serious morals and guidance-rock on the 80's!

  • weird, i was born right after the 80's but i remember watching this in French version. cool.

  • my childhood :) my daddy usually was singing it

  • Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah

Wishing for the Cities of Gold

    Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah

Someday we will find, the Cities of Gold

  • Children of the sun see your time has just begun

    Searching for your ways

    Through adventures everyday

Every day and night, with the Condor in flight

With all your friends in tow

We search for the Cities Of Gold

  • Love this show!!!! absolutely brillient, my son will be born in July and i am collecting all these old 80's animation classics for him to view in years to come(and believe me there are loads of good examples from the 80's) because the message and the imagination of these cant be challenged by todays crap!

  • this was an amazing series, it seemed to go on forever happy memories - duh do do do do ahahahh duh do do do do ... (altogether)

  • I can't believe so few people remember this great animated miniseries. It was amazing and the theme song was fantastic. It brings back so many fond memories. I bought the series on VHS years back.

  • This show had a strong affect on me as a kid. Don Quixote had his romances and I had my Cities of Gold.

  • I was about 5 to 10 years old when I was watching this I'm a grown man now but I still remeber this it was so good.

  • I just pre-ordered the DVD from HMV for £37

  • Region 2 DVD release is scheduled for 24th Mar 2008

  • I thought this cartoon was Japanese, from the look of the charicters and the fact that it's set in 16th century south America and still features giant robots

  • It was a france-japan-luxemburg co-production directors: Edouard David , Kenichi Maruyama script: Jean Chalopin , Bernard Deyriès

musick: Haim Saban , Ryuji Sasai

  • My god I loved this cartoon! You are the man for posting this vid!!! Brings back memories!!!

  • This song is only a copy of the original song in French! it is a French cartoon of Jean Chanloipn (Denis the malicious, the littles, mask, inspector gadget, jayce) There will be a continuity in this cartoon shortly!

  • The French call Dennis the Menace "Denis the Malicious"? That's silly. Dennis was not a mean kid-- he just got into lots of trouble. And just for your info, even though Jean Chalopin is a genius, he did not create Dennis the Menace-- that's American cartoonist Hank Ketcham's creation.

  • Actually that's a mistranslation; the French word "malice" in the French title "Dennis la malice" has actually has actually much more gentle and tamed meaning than "menace". It has a signification of troublemaker and nosepicker, yet behind an innocent behavior.

The funny thing here is, It was dubbed "la malice" because the French editors thought "la menace" of the original title had a too much negative connotation.

Funny what language differences can result to.

  • loved this program. tons better than whats on now. used too rush home to watch it.thanks for posting it.

  • I love it,seems like only yesterday i was watching this!!!!!

  • wow...amazing how you remember the words isnt it! and sing along

  • There will be a official DVD release in English language available in 2008.. So we don't have to suffer anymore crappy pirate copies ! I also read on 80scartoon web site (uk) that the company wants the fans to suggest what extras they'd like to see. !

  • If this is the case, I am so looking for this!

  • This, and the cartoon "Spartikus and the Sun Beneath the Sea" should go to DVD. I would love to own them if nothing more than to introduce my wife to these great cartoons. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

  • god bless youtube!

  • Another classic from the old days. I wanted the golden condor so badly when I was little. Is this out on DVD? It should be. Nice one.

  • The don't make theme tunes like this anymore. Classic stuff :)

  • some serious memories there returning to my poor brain which struggles so much with all the misery in the world, this brings back some joy and happiness of a time when cartoons....... WERE FUCKING WELL WORTH WATCHING:)

  • I loved this. It seemed so adventurous and magical.

  • There is a big difference > the cartoons from the 80, the songs are 1000x better then now.. Ducktales, Mysteries Cities Gold (wow, fantastic nr. and the text , Dangerous Mouse=Lalala.. Mario Brothers (!) Mask, Inspector Gadget, Hitcliff.. Candy Where is Candy ? SNIK SNIK and NIels Holgersons. Unfortunately its only Brits cartoons and Alfred Jodokus KwaK, Nijntje, SMurfs, Vrouwtje Teelepel, Robinson, Nathaly ? Boes Boes, Bassie And Adriaan ?

  • I have one question - where I can find italian version of MCoG opening?

  • A mixture of a lot of themes - religion, history, race, myth and legend, etc.

  • I used to get up at 6:25AM when I was 8 or 9 years old, just to watch this...

    Didn't miss a single episode!

Just the opportunity to hear that song was worth waking up an hour earlier!

  • I love this too much! I remember when I was very little I was overly obsessed with this anime, honestly! It seemed sooo cool and its atmosphere most of all was so full of mystery! I wish I could expreience those emotions back then again. But I'm too old now. The only thing I've got is to listen to the song and watch and it'll take me back years ago... Thank you for uploading. =)

  • They shoulda done this series APOCALYPTO style!!!

  • can anyone remember a cartoon like this style but about a boy and a big white dog?? cities of gold was ace

  • Bella and Sebastian I think it was called.

  • Best song ever!

  • did estaban ever actually find out that his dad was the high priest, i can't remember for sure!

  • No, Mendoza did,but thought since his father was sacrificing himself,he shouldn;t know

  • lol yeah i know i just watched it, it was a killer that he never found out who his real dad was, thanks for saying though!

  • did they every find them????

  • The amount of gold it looks like they used to build their forms of transport in order to search for the cities of gold surely would've been plenty and so the cities of gold could just.. stay.. hidden? anyway looks like a bit of fun. I wasn't around in the 80s so I missed out. Like the intro music... so happy :)

  • this was my absolute favourite, best ever cartoon i ever saw, the kids of this generation really missed out on something great..shame. i always hoped they would make a second series but they never did and they never did even though it was such a hit .. oh well

  • They have made a second series and it god AWFUL

  • the show was too intelligent to continue. think about it... children white, black, american-indian christian and non-christian working together like brother and sister. all talentented. all good hearted. showing another side of history. way to progrerssive for america. sadly.

  • Actually I can't think of a single recent American programme that ISN'T filled with representatives of every race like that. American programme makers are very keen on having every skin colour on screen. The real problem in America is that reality is very different from fiction, as was seen during Hurricane Katrina.

  • the most intelligent and accurate reply i've read on Youtube since I started visiting this site

  • Children of the sun

stick your finger up your bum

    whirl it round and round

'till you hear a funny sound

Hmm, now I know what the REAL lyrics are! ;-)

  • i loved this - classic!

  • I so wanted that chick when I was 10. Y'know the one I mean...

  • yup who didnt lol

  • Hellz yea, I was maybe 6 and Zia had it going on

  • Oh my God, this cartoon reminds me of being a kid. I was OBSESSED! Good times, good times!

  • wow... nostalgia....

  • Man I suddenly feel 10 years old again. :)

    Awesome show.

  • It was a French/Japanese production, translated into English. It's only available in French on DVD :( I was in kintergarden when this show was on, I lived on "El Dorado Lane" so I dug up my backyard looking for gold lol. (El Dorado is mentioned in the intro.)

  • i have the full series in english. if you want it, contact me by e-mail.

  • haha I lived near Egypt Rd so when I was 4 I thought that all that thousands of years ago pharoahs lived here!

  • There was no mummy. There were a bunch of aliens for some reason. Very odd conclusion, but a spectacular show.

  • yeah, and at the very end they find a golden mummy with a machine gun. and it cuts all their heads off, and dragonball z is the gayest cartoon of all time. yay!! cities of gold!

  • best theme song ever

  • Oh how I miss this show!

  • See the first episode HERE ! ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xn4MzEOF2Y

  • its been more than 20 years since i've heard that theme song and it still fresh on my mind... i can't remember if the actual show was any good...

  • Holy Crap! I watched this when I was like 4 years old! I remember it being on 6am just like you said. And to my suprize.... ITS ANIME!!!! Hell yeah!... no wonder why it was good. I never heard anything from this series since I saw the final episode so long ago.

  • Wow! Serious nostalgia there! I remember this show coming on right after Belle and Sebastian on nick at like 6am. I'd go nuts when they'd fly that golden condor!

  • *dies*

That is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. What the hell is that?

  • I remember the show but can't remember what happened. Did they actually find the Cities of Gold? lol

  • Yeah they found them in the end. They found a few stone cities too and got the golden bird in one of them.

  • Best cartoon ever!! And this theme is only second to Thundercats :D

  • quality, my old favourite. wish i could watch a show again.

  • this show is awesome, and i love the music!

  • Ooooh Memories ....
