This is a really good song IMO... I really like the younger side to the band, Maroon 5 is like a grown up version of Kara's flowers, both physically and lyrically I think.

Kara's Flowers did garage-rock, more than pure rock.

Maroon5 are pop-rock oriented. Just as much as Coldplay. It's about nuances.

And depends on which song you pick up.

Any case, their level of pop-rock is excellent.

I agree as a whole concept (not easy to underestimate JimmyV's contribution, of course) but for being 16/17 years old kids there KFlowers were incredibly good. Writing their own garage material by then? PROPS. And Soap Disco isn't at all the best song on Fourth World. It's a pleasant, energized record actually. To get Rob Cavallo as a producer never hurts (ask Green Day). But yeah, sure: Maroon5 are better, no brainer there :)

When I first started to follow M5, I tried to find Fourth World in Italy desperately, and failed. I bought it in Uk in summer 2003, and still listening to it weekly. For some reason that sound is brit-pop crossing a sort of toned- down grunge to me. And I love it. I still lack that episode of Beverly Hills 90210 with Kara's Flowers as music guest. I'd KILL to have it taped. ;)

Definitely agree about the cheesy lyrics. They used to describe Kara's lyrics as "nonsense", though it doesn't actually apply to all songs, certainly does about this one. Which s okay. It's a carefree tune, so very teeny. The video must have been an output from dope ;)
