I'm only a year away from turning 30....and you know what I would wish for more than anything? Not a shitload of money. Not for world peace. Not an end to poverty and hunger.....but to take a time machine back to my childhood in the 80's and basically wake up as the hyperactive 7 year old and just wake up and gorge myself on a big bowl of sugary cereal in front of the TV on the old CBS/ABC Saturday Morning cartoons, and then afterwards run around the yard chasing monsters and building forts!
I am going to purchase some HI C next time I go to the store because that was one of the best commercials ever! I hated school so that was my favorite commercial when I was a kid.
Its a good thing my parents taped some of those old Saturday Morning Cartoons. I've been tempted to go back and view them for a while now. We certainly were a privilaged generation werent we?
at 2:28 The Asian Girl... Who Is she I Can't Place What she Is From... a Show When shes Like a Teenager.. someone please help i have brain farts here?
We may be thinking of different people, but I would bet money that is Lindsay Price. She used to be on All My Children and 90210 at one point. Most recently on Eastwick.
Interesting information...Chey Boyardee was a real person. They changed the spelling of his name on the products so people could pronounce it. I believe it was spelled "Boiardi".
Agreed. Things were SO different back then. And sadly those times have come and gone. But at least there are those of us who are influenced by such a decade. And I just so happen to be one of those people.
that hi-c commercial is what i really remember about growing up... dirty basements with random toys scattered and just hanging out and making up stories and getting into stuff. now everyones house is super clean and everyones basements are finished with big tv's and couches... not that it's a bad thing... it was just so different
Hi-C you can honk the tonk with the boppin berry!hic its the root to fruit hic its the place w taste Hi-C! rem that song on a commercial!!its been in my head for years im 28!!hahaha
ok i know i should be old enough to remember but the crispy critters cereal? i do not remember that at all.lol i turned 6 yrs old that year. i def remember the rest of the commercials.
God, these bring me back to those mornings in which I woke up at 6-7 on a Saturday. I was five, and now I can't even wake up at ten. lmao. Iwant those old days back. Now, they're onlybut a memory.
AHHHHH "After these messages, we'll be right back!" hah I can't believe how many of these I remember. I had every single barbie imaginable too I swear. What a nerd I was.
I've remember seeing those classic 1988 Saturday Morning ABC commercials when i was 6, now Saturday Mornings is filled up with News, Infomercials and kids educational programs, i like to go back to the late 80's and see those classic commercials that seen on Saturday Morning!!
Looking through these old commericals(I can't believe I'm now saying that: "OLD"), I saw an in-between shows segment called Kids Beat, from 1987. I went to Wikipedia to look it up, but found no exact match. I did happen to find an article titled: Beat Up A White Kid Day. You should look it up. If your neighborhood, or school, was anything like mine, then I'm sure you can relate.
Same here. I find it ironic that the very state legislators who mandated forced busing and forced integration into not what are schools, or neighborhoods, but are in fact rather war-zones, wouldn't dare consider sending their own kids to those same schools. For the affluent, who could afford to spend an extra 30-grand per year per kid, private schools suddenly appeared out of nowhere. White and black middle-class parents(who could afford it) immediately put their kids in private schools.
im so damn sorry to hear that, aren't there any places left in the world where white people aren't forced to come in contact with minorities, whoaways you....
Hard to believe that it been twenty years, that sure brings back memories!
It's sad that Saturday Mornings is now mostly news, infomercials and kids programming has to be educational (FCC does it again)...the days of cartoons and cool commercials was what we looked forward to after suffering thru school during the week!
tell me about it. When the Chipmunk movie came out in Dec 2007, all the theatres were packed with adults born in the late 70s/early 80s (including myself) who went tosee teh film for nostalgic reasons.
Saturday Morning Cartoons aren't the same anymore. FORKids TV is pretty decent, but not so good compared to 20 years ago. I wish I could travel back to the 80s.
Wow! I haven't seen these or heard these in nearly two decades. It sure brings back so many good old memories and sentiments. How inspiring! Those were the days, unlike nowadays. Thanks for posting.
I remember ALL these commercials..whatever happened to that cereal crispy critters??? didn't really like the taste, but liked the little puppets when I was little..haha

So you Yanks had Golden Grahams long before the Brits!? When they came along to England, we thought what a stupid name for a breakfast cereal. And Pop Tarts!!! You can keep 'em!!!
"soo happy togetherrr..." I remember all these commercials i was about 10-11 years old. The Golden Grahams "so happy together jingle" commercials, brings back alot of memories! Man how time flies!
Wow. I Love These Saturday Morning Commercials. I was only 6-years-old When These Commercials were on. I Never Had An Island Fun Barbie Doll. And I Always Drink Hi-C And Eat Crispy Critters For Breakfast Too. And Kool-Aid Too. Ah Memories.
I was 10 years old in 1988 and I remember every single one of these commercials! Commercials were so much better then! I think they used to use catchy tunes and that was a great idea. I probably know more commercials from the 80's than the more recent ones. Seriously,I just tune out the ones now. If I were in advertising I would go back to the catchy tunes because it sticks with people.
I'm about your age and I agree...I remember most of these. What's funny is that I'm trying to find work as a copywriter and so I found myself seeing these commercials from a different perspective now.
I have no idea what commercials are like now, least of all on Sat. mornings....I don't even have a TV in my place and watch all my stuff online.
Ok, I am 33, but I miss the old Saturday Morning line-up. These kids today do not know what they are missing. Cartoons were on every major network from 6am to 12noon. These commercials really take me back.
Totally agreed. I'm the same age, and I watched this, it's almost like stepping back in time. When my newborn son is old enough, I'm going to show him what his daddy grew up on. :-)
Man, I remember the wacky Warehouse! My bro and I used to imitate the puppet from the commercials. Once, I said "Chill grill" and my mom thought I said "chill girl" to her. I got sent to my room for the night. I used to love the tang commercials. "Don't you got ears man?"-too funny. Miss those days. Sit back, close your eyes, breathe in the nostalgia. Being a kid back then rocked.
CHEF BOYARDEE DINOSAURS!!! Funny how it could be 20 years since you've seen or heard a commercial that as soon as it plays, you remember all the words. Wow...
The Golden Grahams commercial still gives me this warm feeling after all these years. I also remember for example the Kool Aid one. The bit about the "parents' playpen" is funny. The Little Clowns of Happytown, on the other hand, are lame (as are clowns in general). Thanks for sharing.
