i used to have a pet skunk, a looong time ago. and it was AWESOME. no joke, coolest pet i've ever had, well..tied with the ferret. it was just like a cat, except more playful and more respectful of what you do and of your property. they dont tear up stuff. seriously though, i just found out they're illegal in my state now and im pretty much heartbroken from it because i've been looking for another here recently. Either way, most detinitely legalize them as pets, its just a big fluffy cat!!

I think its not fair. Skunks are cute too! Some skunks that are made into pets meet up with a vet to have their stinkiness taken out. So I think they are adorable as a pet

I think this is great I love my little ball of fur. she just turned 4. She is very smart/stubborn and fun. You will need patience training one! I agree with legalizing them in your state as long as people get a permit and research the appropriate care including vet care.
If you want to know more about owning a skunk or Raccoon, just ask. I have both and love then like crazy. DO YOUR HOMEWORK before getting one so they can be healthy and happy.

The rabies vaccine mentioned being used in Canada is actually manufactured here in the U.S. The vaccine presently used here in the U.S. is only about 75% effective. The one used in Canada is more like about 90 to 95% effective. Even for your dog or cat, which would you rather have?
The state of Illinois could at least give them a chance. If someone becomes unable to care for their skunk or otherwise needs to foster it or adopt it to someone else, there are groups who will see to it that the skunk has a loving, forever home. Adoptive or foster parents are carefully checked out before the skunk is placed.
