@faeryjoan agreed - but the scriptwriters seem to have reinvented him for series two. He does get rather letchey towards jenny again in the last episode of series three, "power"

jeez if i was jenny i would not be happy living under charles roof. have they all got amnesia about his weird set up in the 1st series? i guess so for the sake of tv drama..
