@rafleo2 The bridge is located in Stillwater, Minnesota. I believe it was built in 1931 and still is used everyday. I can see it from my bedroom window! It is in serious disrepair and is need of major restoration.

My friend and I were going under that same bridge last summer in a sail boat. The controller wasn't paying attention and he lowered the bridge on top of us and almost sank our boat. If it wasn't for people on the shore yelling at him to stop lower it the boat would have been done for. Not an experience I want to repeat.

dathribab: No, I never have seen a bridge like that. Surprising, since I've lived all over the country, but never lived in Minnesota. I am simply amazed that someone could think this up, build it and make it work. The miracles of the modern mind... and engineering at work. Just amazing! And then we have the operator who almost lands the bridge on people in a sailboat (see comment about this experience). Whew.
