Depends. They can be very strong-willed and require firm guidance. You have to be able to discipline without punishing. I'd recommend a budgie for a first time bird. Seriously, they are smart but their bites are not so intimidating.
@12fourlife I'm doing my research now on buying a parrot for my family with 3 kids, and supposedly the Jardine's Parrot (here) is a great family bird, quite and a good talker as well. However, if you want the bird to be just loyal to yourself, the African Grey or Amazon Green are the way to go.
Mine does that too! LOL! Jardines are so cute! Mine literally just turned at year old and he is just getting orange on his head, legs, and wings. His name is Leo. :D Cute birds!
