I don't know a lot about the CW...this summer was first time I have ever been to that part of virginia. But since I have relatives down there...I imagine I will make a few trips down there...maybe even to railfan. Hey, The slavery thing is what it is.....
WOW...nice shots in Hburg. I was just there in Late July and and early August...It's my ancestral hometown....I didn't see ONE train in 4 days. Didn't hear a horn blow...whats up with that?
LOL..actually...all of our ancestors are the dinosaurs. now arent they? Really...my homeland is McGaheyville....My great grandfather was a slave on a plantation there, right behind the Wyeth Factory....hence the ancestral homeland thing.
@Shield1751, that's cool, although the slave thing is extremely uncool. So what's the deal with the Chesapeake Western? Weren't they independent and taken over by the N&W before the NS merger?
@meccaturbo The Chesapeake Western still exist as a seperate company. They maintain an office in Harrisonburg, VA, and the trains are dispatched here instead of Roanoke. From what I read online, the train crews are non-union. read here

Wouldn't be able to tell you... yeah maybe it becomes a ghost town here over the summer.
BTW I saw a train come through today it was a mixed freight boxcars in front with agriculture cars sandwiched by one tanker.
Anybody know whats the max speed limit for trains using the Chesapeake Western?

There was a CW40-9 trailing the ATSF unit, plus an SD60/CW40-9 combo on the other end as pushers.
