I'm sorry. But there is no "vocal ability" in making "pig death noises" and screeches. I have nothing against Death Metal or Black Metal, or any OTHER variety of "hey, we can't sing so let's scream" metal out there. But it certainly is nice to have, at the VERY least, intelligible lyrics.
@poopmaster13 Yeah you clearly don't know the talent and effort put forth to make gutterals and high pitched screams like this, and then have the ability to transition into clean singing. Try to do one gutteral scream, and I guarantee you wont be able to do it properly.
also reading from the comments yes i know they've changed and i agree with the change, the changes not all of us might like but you know they're still effin together and i celebrate that to the fullest and i think true fans would adjust to changes and actually listen to their music, and for the image they're getting older they have a right to change their image its only HUMAN to change srry for them being normal and wanting a new image
Really hope they stop this genre with the next album if there is one. Withering was about as heavy/melodic as you could get without overstepping into repetitive muddy vocals. He's destroyed his voice so badly that he is pathetic live. He can't even sing entire songs, let alone hit notes. For dethmetal fans this is great, but for people like me it's like we haven't had a good DeG album in years.
@Horcruxist I know, right? Is it just me or did it seem he showed more passion in his voice in his previous albums like vulgar and withering to death? even like marrow of a bone. After that, they've just changed so much as a band. I remember the days where Shinya dressed like a girl ;-;
@SamuiAme Ugh, the VK stage (which is usually how most heacy jrock bands start off) was not quite my cup of tea.. but their "The Final, Kodou and Dozing Green, was simply amazing
@Horcruxist Uroboros was their Magnum Opus. Dum Spiro Spero is also a damn good album. His vocals haven't got to shit. I have been a fan of Dir en Grey since their MISSA EP, and I still love them now, and it's not because I am a blind fanboy; it's because their music still gets to me. Also, you should know better that Dir en Grey doesn't have a genre. Gauze is a prime example of that. Compare -Zan- to Yokan. It's almost as if they belonged in different albums. Point is, try to be more open.
One of the few bands I've seen get better with age, this song is among some of their best work thus far. Somehow I knew the whole Japanese nuclear thing would trigger them to make an album, considering how politcally/culturally aware and concerned Kyo is. btw the part near the end where the Japanese continent turns into a squid reminds me of the Dreugh from TES III: Morrowind.
fookin prawns, tentacle raep lol glad to see them going back to their roots though, that's what this video seems like to me. reminds me of the obscure days.
@DuoBat66 The situation in Japan is affecting the band a lot more than you think. I've seen photos of Kyo leaving a tour bus with a face mask on. Worse, I read somewhere that after they're done with their overseas tours, they may have to stay in Japan for quite sometime. It's not outright stated that this PV is about the earthquake, an open letter from their official FB page mentions that its a call for action and reform, most likely related to the tragedy in Japan.
Actually the video and song is very lucid and does not have one set in stone meaning. Die and Kaoru say so in the video interview they did with PunkVideosRock on here. Just look it up and see for yourself.
haha, so i'm watching the video and an ad pops up that says "What Really Attracts Men" i guess now we know ^.~ Dir en Grey = LOVE <3. don't ever stop doing what you do best, making amazing music ^.^
The evolution of this band is truly amazing. If you would have told me after marrow of the bone they would sound like this, id tell you your nuts. <3 Dir En Grey + Guitar solos
Much of the imagery used in this video are all Japanese pop cultural references, with the exception of the painting by Edo period artist Hokusai Katsushika dated 1814. It has nothing to do with the recent disaster in Japan.
For everyone that doesnt get it. The vid and song represent the nuclear disaster japan has faced. And how fucking with unatural things can well..fuck back. Thats why there faces are deformed...from radiation. And the hentai which is called mahou shoujo ai is in here to show how japan has been forcfully violated.
@qu7aker how are you making all these connections? can you explain your logic? is it from the lyrics that you are making these claims about the meaning of it? because from the video I cannot see this connection. maybe commentary about perversion and japanese culture. but yeah... could you explain?
@yanorei The commentary isnt about perversion but how japan has been forcefully violated (raped) from radiation which is unatural and how messing with mother nature can backfire. You can see it more in the video.
@qu7aker i guess I just dont see it. I see no allusions to the fukushima disaster. can you point to a specific moment when it is alluding to what you say?
@yanorei sure like i said before if u see the band members faces there deformed and thats from radiation from the power plant meltdown also the octopus monster because if u see in alot of monster movies when theres some giant monster on the loose alot of the time its because of some radiation poisoning or something which effects animals and the environment in a negative way. also this video has shit quality id go watch a better version.
@qu7aker WOW! Thanks a lot! I really didn't even get the whole vid. I thought they just wanted to match the song name "Different Sense" Wow man! Thanks so much.
@qu7aker thank you for saying this cause im getting sick and tired of people just focusing on the hentai. love the music and listen to the message theyre trying to explain throughout the video. dir en grey is what i call the beauty of music for me at least:]
@qu7aker While the nuclear disaster inspired this song, and has ties to the video and what not. I read the lyrics and can't help but get a different meaning from this song. I think it's more about their government constantly lying to them about the nuclear disaster, and how people should break away from mindlessly obeying what they are told.
At the beginning, I was scared they were turning into a typical metal band, but then towards the middle/end they kept their originality. I like the different moods of this song.
There is definitely some sort of commentary being made here, I doubt they would just put tentacle porn in a video for the fuck of it (heh...I made a funny). Though whatever the message may be, it's a bit muddled (whether that's simply because of the language barrier or just because there's SO much of it, that's kinda hard to tell).
Still, a great video overall, they never disappoint.
love the song, but the video could do without the tentacle hentai, seriously, Americans don't need a even more disgusted opinion of japan then there already is.
I've seen enough tenticle porm to know where this is going.

"Hello metalheads.
Instead of a Metal rebellion i propose a new plan.
1. Don't bash other metal artists, we must unite! We can't fight against pop music if we aren't even together
2. Watch more and more metal videos to get it to the top of the YouTube vid list
If you like this idea, thumbs it up JUST so people can see it, and also spread it around if you like this idea
Let's show that metal kicks ass!
Copy this text in every Metal video you watch and we will make it !

Dir en Grey has always been free for interpretation. So the PV can be viewed how ever anyone sees it.
Honestly, I think that this PV represents the Japanese people always being in fear of something trying to violate them.
