  • @metalligimp I have always thought that myself.

  • I can picture this song playing in a horror movie murder scene, american psycho style

  • @strungout3650 ALRIGHT!

Actually I don't see this song on the murder scene but maybe the Serial Killer's introduction..

  • spike brought me here.

  • go taco go!

  • @Jdog147 Sir....you..suck, I am 16 and I think that this song is catchy and fun to listen to.

  • @Jdog147 Check out the Fred Astaire version-it may renew your desire to live.

If it does NOT, well... Have fun?

  • @Jdog147 Why don't you take that gun and blow your brain right now so we won't have to listen to your whining again?

  • baby geniuses

  • Whatever you think about censorship, this is in pretty poor taste. Blackface offends a lot of people. You have the right to watch this video, but you do not have the right to dismiss people's criticisms as "hypersensitivity."

  • @monkeysoulpoet

You have the right to remain silent.

  • @dellbon And I also have the right to complain about pretty bad racism.

  • @monkeysoulpoet If thats pretty bad racism to you, I would like to know what color the sky is in your universe.

  • @NorthsideBill You're kidding, right? Blackface has been used to demean African Americans for literally centuries.

  • @monkeysoulpoet so whens the last time you went to africa? ive been to nigeria twice and im white. if its so bad for you here then go visit the motherland. then call yourself african

  • @angelofdeath2874 Where did I say I was African? You don't have to be black to realize that blackface is pretty damn offensive.

  • What a weird video.

  • Cool! Also, are you the guy at the end with the ice cream?

  • @watthecus61 Of course not :-))) If you visit my YouTube channel there is my own video too and you will see how I looked since my birth "centuries" ago ;-)

  • Sorry, Roland. I just happen to be the weirdest person in the world. Btw, does taco have any other songs?

  • @watthecus61 I am sure you are not at all :-) Of course, he released several longplays as well as many singles. There are the 87 songs (mp3 files) on his website!

  • PONIES The Anthology. 'Nuff said.

    C:

  • @watthecus61 It is up to you, whether you believe it or not ;-)

    Just visit w w w. taco.tc

  • @mikeviixi It really is!

@Nintengirl218 Yes it is Taco and he is from the Netherlands. He is wearing make-up the way lounge singers in the 20's & 30's looked on stage and he is very original with this presentation.

@MegSon33333 Do you think that someone is interested in your sexual orientation? In case you mean Taco, he is happily married since 1980 :-)

@GANANDORF214 Just let me know, if you need any kind of support.

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • My schools prom theme this year is Puttin' on the Ritz

  • GAY

  • 2:39-2:46 wtf was that?!

Is that taco?! Where's he from? And is he wearing make up or something cuz he looks creepy..... e.e

  • @Nintengirl218

The entire video is a sort of "1920's penetrates into modern time (well, 1980's anyway)" The time travelers from the past were robotic, false and mannequin-esque. All their dancing was very much "20's ballroom style", somewhat exaggerated for effect, coupled with appearing in slow motion or frozen in time "yet still moving".

If you want to see the sort of thing common in the 20's Taco likely took inspiration from, look up "first moon walk" here on YouTube and you'll see. Creepy!

  • alright....420 did not put on the ritz

  • I love 1:26

  • So ima pay who ever makes a good dubstep version.

  • I remember this song even with old cartoon episodes from Alvin and the Chipmunks, it's censored at youtube. You youtube motherfu

  • IRVING BERLIN compilation... one of the great American Songwriters... crazy interpretations but cool... loved this in highshcool.

  • @timothyj1966 Irving Berlin was able to see Taco take "Ritz" up the charts, making him the oldest living songwriter to ever have a U.S. Top 10 hit (Cash Box No.1 and Billboard No.4) at the age of 95. Before he passed away in 1989, he stated that he liked Taco's version the most of all of them, which was a pretty impressive compliment by one of the greatest songwriters of all time!

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT oh wow! thats impressive! he was such an under rated entertainer in the us sadly.i'm glad that he still performs in europe, russia etc.

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT hey roland, how many channels do you and taco have here on yt? i wanna fav all of them

  • @thecolaratlady Just this one, which is mine plus 60 uploads of Taco's videos :-)

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT ok cool..thanks Roland

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT Great commentary. I like taco best also, so i guess he and i agree. I bet having a second top hit with the same song really made him high!

  • @radiowwww Some years after the release of "Ritz" Taco was very fortunate to be able to speak to Irving Berlin on the phone, who was indeed very pleased :-)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT Wow, that IS impressive! That's a great compliment!

  • What was the instrument in the background at 2:16?

  • @nvlaxerg54 - It sounds like a bell or empty glass sample played on a synth! Creepy song but quirky and mad at the same time!

  • Taco must be the best artist name ever! Sounds like El Maco's more stupid brother or somthing :p

  • @skagerstrom Taco is a common first name in the Netherlands where he is from :-)

  • i think black faces are widely misunderstood. not one person got angry when the wayans brothers put on white make up for white chicks.

  • @thatsmesothere when they did that, i dont think they were trying to demean an entire race :P

  • @HeyAhnuld i dont think the black face was designed the same way

  • @thatsmesothere the black face was made because black people werent allowed to act.

so they just got white guys to put make up on.

I think what really pisses people off are the big red lips on most blackfaces, and the fact that the character was almost always a complete moron

with the wayne brothers, it was part of the plot and stuff

  • @HeyAhnuld yeah but the plot made the white person look like a douche. i dont mind either way.

  • @thatsmesothere

the plot made 4 white girls look like douches

the plot also made the group of white girl friends cool

and alot of them had character development by the end

also, theyre roles in the movie didnt depend on there race

and one of those people could have been replaced by someone else of any skin color

the only people that had to be anything were the brothers (they couldnt be white)

and the chicks they were playing as. (had to be white)

  • @HeyAhnuld character development that only happened because they were in the presence of black guys. i think the fact that not one of those characters were changed to any other race when they could have kinda helps my point.

  • @HeyAhnuld back in the day the men used to dress up as woman cos woman were not allowed to act, it wasnt to disparage an entire sex was it? i do agree that some of the black faces were ridiculous, but iv seen in the same black and white movies, the white fat drunk slave owner looking more stupid than the black face dude.

  • @thatsmesothere yes im aware of that, i didnt feel liek typing it though. guys used to kiss guys for the sake of acting

and, using thier rights. women came back and was like "fuck you guys" im going to act!!

and a race making fun of itself never hurt anyone. but everyone and anyone would get mad if someone started talkin shit, no matter how small the shit talk was.

    human nature

  • @HeyAhnuld hey....good song though huh? hehehe

  • @thatsmesothere :P sure is,i heard it today and immiediatly recognized it from fred astaires dancing

  • I had a dancing skeleton guy that sung this song when you pushed a button. So creepy.

  • tacos brought me here

  • This was apparently the number 1 hit here in the month and the year I was born, that's what brought me here. I must say, I like this :-)

  • GUYS YOU MUST HEAR THIS SONG WEARING A HEADSET or something

  • @JokucFromBFME I'm hearing impaired, i have to use a headset, it's awesome that way isnt it?

  • 3:19- I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas!

  • @imissslickey Correct! Moreover Taco included parts of "Always", "Alexander's Ragtime Band", "There's No Business Like Show Business" (all written by his idol Irving Berlin), and "Gotta Dance" from the musical film "Singin' in the Rain" as well as a tap dance solo in the middle to honor Fred Astaire!

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT Yes I did hear them! Too cool! I appreciate this song so much more now, than I did as a kid.

  • @imissslickey Same here! In 1983, "Ritz" was also number 1 of the Austrian charts. Although I did not like the song at that time I booked Taco for an Austria tour. Since then I've heard it countless times and love it :-)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • Amazing song<3

  • Daymares

  • Not simply "dream imagery", Swampbuggy61, but also hearkening back to 1920s America when the Depression started and when whites acted in Blackface as opposed to letting blacks act.

  • Nightmares

  • TACO FASHION coming this year 2012

  • Spike brought me here.

  • @Pigeonnus Dat rock hat.

  • @Pigeonnus Hahaha Yeah lol MLP is everywhere

  • @Pigeonnus Jet brought me here. Someone spotted Vicious near the Ritz. No bounty, just vindication. Bell peppers and beef will have to wait. We've got hell to pay.

Faye, put that down! Ed! Stop feeding treebark to Ein!

    Three, two, one, let's jam!

  • @carale1986 Dude what are you on ?? I want some......

  • @Pigeonnus from ponies the anthology? ya me too

  • thumbs if you know this song is dope!

  • @Supersweetguy really? I guess it makes sense, though. But its not really offensive in any ways..

  • This song came from the swing era. it lasted completely throught the big band era, a and through broadway and movies it's poipularity klasted. Now it has been "OWNED" by Taco. His style is a refreshing look at how to blend older music with newer "STYLE". He has did the same with other such songs. such as the old show tune, 'DANCING IN THE RAIN", and "DANCING CHEEK TO CHEEK".

  • I agree with some of the other posters on here, there is something strangely eerie and nightmarish about this song and video...

  • This is such an epic video

  • Taco has a Light Sabre!

  • @RossBayCult No he has a glowing cane!

  • im emotionally scared for life lol... SCARY!

  • I'm not getting why this song had to be sensored at all.

  • @bleedoutblackroses The reason why some scenes were censored was because of the blackface scene. The black it out as to not offend the African-American people in the US back then. What do you think?

  • Goodnight LA is really cool.

  • BOOOOOSLI

  • Why was the blackface so bad?

  • @hunter6494 i know right

  • I can so completely imagine Tim Curry doing this.

  • @ozoneocean It's easy to see why. Taco did bear a striking resemblance to a much younger Tim Curry. Also, I love the nod given to Queen at 2:38 (Another One Bites the Dust).

  • After 2:35 is what nightmares are made of... at least how I remember it.

  • taco is creepy looking.

  • 414 people are not putting on the ritz

  • i think this song was before it's time

  • @georgeglass11 you are so right yet wrong. Al Joplin did this in the late 1920s the past repeats itself. I love the whole idea of a new roaring 20s pure style. our country is in a nasty depression now.

  • @musique897 The song was written and published in 1929 by Irving Berlin and introduced by Harry Richman in the musical film Puttin' on the Ritz (1930).

Who is Al Joplin? I know Scott Joplin, an American composer and pianist. He achieved fame for his ragtime compositions, and was later dubbed "The King of Ragtime".

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT I wonder if musique897 means Al Jolson ? Maybe.

  • @jimwest1968 You are right and @musique897 did not mean the song but the blackfaces.

  • @musique897 well the 1920's version is still the best but i mean this version. Because the way the song has it's beat and at the end with the break down. i think it was the first of it's kind for the 80's i think.

  • this song used to give me nightmares as a kid

  • @WRI2012 Thanks :-) It made and still makes fun!

@thecolaratlady I am glad that you like the autograph card so much :-)

@thatstheone87 I see, but Taco is happily married since 1980. Concerning trolls from down under: I thought you just wanted to provoke.

@CheatvsCheater This is as as old as the song ;-)

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT U did a good job with both Falco and Taco

  • Comment removed

  • Puttin on my tits

  • I love how Taco took an old fashion Fred Astarire number and made it this good

  • @frankie385 I totally agree with you apart from the fact that Fred Astaire did a cover version too, as the original was sung by Harry Richman in 1930 :)

    Roland - Taco's Manager

  • Omg,TACO looks just like Ville Valo if you watch "Rip Out The Wings Of A Butterfly" video H.I.M

  • Love the minstrels. It fits the intended time.

  • SUPER DUPER!

  • @tiffannyta ; LMFAO !!!! :D

  • Is it just me or was there just something creepy about the 80's? Well besides this vid

  • this is fuckin shit, wtf

  • Doesn't the piano player look gay??! Or dies he want attention in the video??

  • @titsbobmagy pretty sure everyone in this clip is gay. Have you not seen the guy "singing" lol, biggest gay ever

  • @thatstheone87 You seem to be an "expert" as some other trolls from down under ;-)))

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT well im gay, so i can pick out others pretty well. not that this was hard. what do u mean trolls from down under?

  • @RoCoMANAGEMENT This is awesome Roland. he looked soo handsome, and his singing, omg very talented.Oh. and i got the autographed pic of him that you sent me, it's all framed, hanging on my wall. :)

  • i am putting on the ritz

  • What follows after 2:38 is a lot creepier than the two guys in black face shown for only a very short time. I think I get it, but don't want to go into it. Yes, it is creepy alright. Suffice it to say that this video deserves to be far more famous than it is.

  • is it me or he's like an evil paul reiser?

  • ive got it. this reminds me of the ultra lux in fallout new Vegas

  • the level of true "Swag" in this video is mind blowing.

  • I wonder if George Lucas called him asking for the light sabre back?

  • AM I the only one who thinks he looks like Tim Curry the sweet transvestite" from Transsexual,on the The Rocky Horror Show.

  • @theEricoeric Holy shit think u are right

  • @Midnightryder7 lol you know? he does

  • May god bless the soul that watches this while high on acid...

  • @TCzelusniak it's fucking nightmarish. this video is literally a horrifying nightmare to anyone high.

  • Am I the only one who finds the second half of this video a little creepy?

  • @Waluigifan95 no it's creepy all right.

  • I think the blackface in this video has been misunderstood. If you look at the video as a whole it is all fantasy world. You have the depression era hobos (which could be viewed as an analog to the financial troubles we had through the early eighties) that are contrasted against Taco. The people around Taco are meant to showcase him but not be human in any way. The Blackfaces with the syn voices, the piano player, the guy in whiteface saying dance to the rhythm. This was just dream imagery.

  • @Swampbuggy61 Unfortunately, we live in a time where Political Correctness rules the day. I don't think, in 1983, Taco meant to offend anyone; That stated, he would get HELL if he did this video today. Please consider that.

  • @kja427 that is very true, we have no iconoclast in our times :O

  • As awesome as he is and this song is, GOD DAMN that is one creepy motha licka.

  • I always loved this song when it came on tv when I was a kid

  • Great Video! Thanks for posting it... I shared it on my FB wall because it brightened my day a bit, so thanks again

  • I want that cane.

  • @cycrushX It Sorry, but it was a unique specimen, which Taco only used in the 80s.

    Roland - Taco's Manager
