It was always a matter of time, before they were hunted down and killed, but not before two, three or more people had died! Once my friend & I had a narrow brush with one of these renegades. The bush in NW Tanzania in the 1950's was a wild place.

With really persistent Lions, why couldn't a less lethal technology be deployed, like Pepper Spray?
It's pretty cheap, biodegradable and better than tracking and shooting them. From my own experience of pepper spray (= 15 minutes of indescribable agony, followed by an hour of snot, tears and laboured breathing and a full day of not feeling quite right) I doubt even an aggressive Lion will be coming back for more + it can be deployed against more thaan one...
You're probably right then. And, ofcourse, a much better alternative if you can avoid killing it without getting killed. BTW, the sound of gunshots can sometimes be enough to have it leaving the other way. I think I would prefer them both. Or even better: Stay far away from an animal that can rip me apart that easilly.

I'm going to Kruger in summer, to do a course in Field Guiding. This is a very interesting subject- one that I have mixed feelings about. While man-eating lions are definitely becoming a nightmare come true, I'm still not sure shooting them straight out for killing humans is necessarily right. There should be relocation plans put in place first. It isn't the lions fault as such, just a consequence of lions becoming used to humans as prey and losing a lot of their natural prey too.
@mydogkanskidrums I think it's usually the locals that kill a man eating lion. At the end of the day, they're the ones wondering the area trying to farm. I don't think they want to risk one of their children being killed. If a lion can be relocated, then brilliant! But it requires a lot of work, dedication and money. I admire your passion towards it, and hope you can help pull it off.

I can imagine walking through that grass and not being able to spot that animal despite its size, due to the colour of its fur mixing in perfectly with the grass combined with the way it lays flat on the ground and has a mane of hair like grass also.
One time on Kangaroo Island I was down at Remarkable Rocks and didn't spot a massive bull seal lying on the rocks for the same reasons. When it growled, I backed away slowly but knew my life was at severe risk. They are like a Venus fly trap.

The Tsavo lions are male. The lack of mane is a unique feature of the lions in that area. The 2 lions on display are also a bit smaller than they were alive as they were used as carpet for some time and thus shrunken.

This male lion is mainly annoyed because he wants to protect the female intended for mating. It doesn't necessarily mean he's a man eater.

I'm going to Kruger in summer, to do a course in Field Guiding. This is a very interesting subject- one that I have mixed feelings about. While man-eating lions are definitely becoming a nightmare come true, I'm still not sure shooting them straight out for killing humans is necessarily right. There should be relocation plans put in place first. It isn't the lions fault as such, just a consequence of lions becoming used to humans as prey and losing a lot of their natural prey too.

@mydogkanskidrums I think it's usually the locals that kill a man eating lion. At the end of the day, they're the ones wondering the area trying to farm. I don't think they want to risk one of their children being killed. If a lion can be relocated, then brilliant! But it requires a lot of work, dedication and money. I admire your passion towards it, and hope you can help pull it off.

@BigCatGirl123 Ah, thanks for the info. Yeah, I know it is a hard thing to do (relocating a lion/pride) and therefore can't be the outcome in every case. Read your comment above mine and also agree- he is probably just defending the female. However, that pride apparently have killed people before, so who knows! Hopefully they won't be killed for any misunderstanding...

I can imagine walking through that grass and not being able to spot that animal despite its size, due to the colour of its fur mixing in perfectly with the grass combined with the way it lays flat on the ground and has a mane of hair like grass also.
One time on Kangaroo Island I was down at Remarkable Rocks and didn't spot a massive bull seal lying on the rocks for the same reasons. When it growled, I backed away slowly but knew my life was at severe risk. They are like a Venus fly trap.

@alkaline71 What he means is that Lions dont go searching to hunt and kill humans. A Lion will not travel accross Africa looking for a Human to kill.
However when humans build roads, farms, villages etc in the Lions domain then there are deaths to Humans and Lions.
People dont realise that Humans kill a lot more Lions then what Lions have killed Humans.
The video said the Lions would kill around 10 people every year. Im betting humans kill hundreds maybe thousands of Lions a year.

female lions i believe(not sure) they are I know they have them at the field museum in Chicago ,IL. after they killed them they were preserved & are now on display. I know they killed over 100 men in that railroad project or highway they were buildingI might have been bout 300 men. I live in Cicago so iknow exactly what u are talkn bout . I haven't been to the museum in a year so i 4got the details. but every time i go i go see them

The Tsavo lions are male. The lack of mane is a unique feature of the lions in that area. The 2 lions on display are also a bit smaller than they were alive as they were used as carpet for some time and thus shrunken.
