Some good points made here. I think it's understandable that those of a more emotionally fragile disposition would turn to the the concept of heaven as a source of comfort in the face of cognitive oblivion. However, isn't it better to accept reality than to be a cognitive slave throughout your concious existence?

I agree, I see why people turn to the idea, but I think that if they accepted the reality that their love ones are out of pain and no longer experience anything, they'd see that it a was better way really. A point Richard Dawkins made - We are only the sperm that made it. Think of all the millions of cells never allowed life. And we are selfish enough to moan about returning to our original state?
