  • Everyone been enjoying Shadow Boxing Day?

  • God they are my favorite band ever Ive meet them so many time Ive got Brent's drumsticks from the first concert i went to

  • I think this footage is from Hurstville Civic centre ?????

  • Song rocks, some hard rock band should pump this out as a cover.

They could only improve it little, the vocals can't be matched to doc.

    Awesome song.

  • I'm 19 and I've heard these guys all my life with my Dad and I love it!!! I've got my friends hooked as well!!!

  • Great to hear this in the film Red Dog!

  • to true

  • tomorrow night i fight(box)for the NSW boxing title at croation club punchbowl NSW. my opponent is nothing but a shadow boxer il show what real boxers are made off! all welcome 7pm. Adrian 'assassin" Campbell

  • music today is no better than a bad eurovision song contest. GEN X RULES!

  • Yeah no Doubt, In that period Australia was the King of Pub Rock and Pub Bands. The English were too busy striking, IRA blowing everyone up, Being on the Dole. etc etc. Use to go to the pubs and watch the Angels, Sportz, Chizel etc etc. Now pub music is dead because the wowsers (youngish people who buy in "Trendy" old areas = Yuppies? DINKS etc) say its too loud, noise pollution etc. People are more stuck up now than back then!!!!

  • @kramrollin69 fuck tell me about it. Australia has forgotten what it was to have fun. Everyone goes out to listen to shit music in bars where it's all generated by a computer or it's American hip / hop / rap which nobody can relate to. In my opinion the pokies in pubs put the nail in the coffin of the indie music scene in Australia. Eventually people are gonna get sick of it and I think "real" music will have to have a come back.

  • @gav240z I have been working in the USA for the last 2.5 yrs and I have to totally agree with you. Pokie machines have killed Aussie music. Here in the USA, there are so many local bands getting gigs in local venues. granted that these are low paid gigs, but the bands are there, doing their thing, cutting their teeth on performance and audiences turn up and love it. Kill pokies, hire a band instead.

  • in 1979....The Angels would just have been The Sex Pistols with talent...*shrug*...in the UK. The only people that think that music like The Sex Pistols were awesome are wearing nostalgia glasses... The Saints did it harder and better....but they closed doors to serious pub rock like The Angels.

  • i found out abou this band by looking through my mums records and she has like every fucking angels record

  • Hey Angels fans, we are FASTRACK a young hard working Aussie rock band trying to get our brand of rock n roll heard. If you have a spare 5 minutes click on our page and watch our new single "Steal the Show"

We just want to be heard and think we have something to offer when it comes to Rock N Roll, so let us know what you think. .\m/

  • I always thought they should have gone to the U.K. where there was a chance their style could be understood, like ACDC did, instead of being twisted about in that turbine of shit and manipulation that is America. Just an opinion :)

  • @anyone4abeer I think both countries are tricky. Most oz-bands were trying their luck in the US because Americans were more open than the English. The English weren't into anything else but their own at the time - even US bands like the Cars got a tougher deal in the UK and Aussie group The Birthday Party stuggled earlier on in England simply because venues didn't want to have them on due to their nationality. Give America its due: The Divinyls, Oils, Men At Work, etc, got a better deal in US

  • @nzoz1979 Not only have you posted a treasury of Aussie music, but your comments always seem to be insightful and well supported. Kudos, mate.

  • @2cabs2toucan thank you...i've always enjoyed reading your comments too! I only get angry at the shitty comments (that is, unless i agree with them)

  • @nzoz1979 the birthday party had a pretty big following in europe but didnt they nzoz, did the angels try europe as a fan target nzoz, i was born in 76'

  • @cobboGHS91 the Birthday Party did better in Germany, which doesn't have the jaundiced view of Australia like England has. The band found England very frustrating. The Angels did try Europe, but sensibly focused more on the US (who were playing Angels songs on radio). Ray Davies of the Kinks sabotaged the Angels performance when they supported the Kinks on a US tour... and guess where he comes from?

  • @anyone4abeer

Yep agree with your opinion very strongly!

  • @anyone4abeer true dat. semi pop punk rock. billy idol killed it

  • My god that captures The Angels. I have to say the rest of the world missed out. But would we Aussies want The Angels any othe way- no way, get . . We will keep em to ourselves, and luvin it,

  • i'm a bit of a shadow boxer..

  • this used to be my favorite band and now that im revisiting the music i think its become my favorite band again lol

  • Angel City?

  • @SnotAngle Yup.... That's them. I am in Western Canada and I was A HUGE FAN late 70's/ early 80's.....They were called Angel City here........AWESOME

  • @ratmq Me too. Didn't know they had the name change issue, a lot of foreign bands do here it seems. I also didn't know they had formed in 1970, I got three of there albums as "Angel City", wonder what the early stuff is like. There was another band, I think Canadian, called the Dirty Angels . . . wonder if that's the issue.

  • @SnotAngle

The Angels (aka Angel City) started off a jugband called Moonshine Jug & String Band.

Search for 'Moonshine Jug & String Band - On The Road Again 1973 Sphere NCP-127.wmv ' to hear what they used to sound lke.... thank god they went electric.

  • I remember when I migrated to OZ, feeling this was the aussie version of Herman Brood in Holland... felt right at home

  • australia's bob geldoff

  • Saw them a few weeks ago - still sound AWESOME

  • they were as big as acdc they both are from sydey australia you were just not born and they retired so do ya home work.

  • Are they still touring? Why don't they tour over here??

  • I am sure you made the comment about them not being as big as ac/dc to purposely piss people off. However, you have proven that you are not worthy to comment on music as you have no fucking idea poofter!!! ac/dc may as well live in fucking uganda because they have forgotten what it is to be an aussie. Besides, how can they be aussie when they have a scottish shirt lifter for a lead singer..........

  • @balbitey your the poofter mate bon scots ten times the lead as brian and i agree i wish angels were as big as ACDC and ACDC were touring the leagues clubs i think it would be hilarious

  • @1GeorgeJung We used to go to Ac dc at high school halls and other town halls all over Melbourne in the 70s in our early teens. Port and marsala and a packet of Vicount 20's.

Ac/Dc were originally picked up by the Sharpies and skins but were so good onstage surfers went along anyway and usually had to fight it out throughout the night.

Great times at the Big Fish. Whatever anyone says AC DC did their time in the pits.

  • @balbitey They probably made the comment because it is true?

  • @balbitey ...Go balbitey....ANGELS ..BIGGER THEN ALL OF THEM. DOC..greatest frontman ever.

  • if ur an aussie the angels are as big as acdc mayb not bank balance

  • this is one of there best

  • An amazing band then, an amazing band now. Saw them last year with Rose Tattoo and The Screaming Jets - amazing gig!

  • how the hell die doc neeson get old

  • Tobruk Kokoda attack

  • damn I was going to this actual concert at The Hurstville civic centre my mum wouldnt give me the $5 to see them lol

  • Doc has wild eyes XD

    Angels are awesome

  • best bands to come out of austrailia in order

    AC/DC- no question about it

    Airbourne

    The Angels

    Midnight Oil

    The Poor

  • @sam22545 and rose tatoo is up there too

  • @sam22545

    1. THE ANGELS

    2. ACDC

    3. the rest

  • Angels opened for AC/DC on at least one Australian tour. Both great Aussie bands.

  • shadow boxer baaa nnaaa :)

  • shadow boxer killll

  • fuck you all there the real deal

  • Wow, I can see why some call them punk. They sound like the Sex Pistols

  • @ManFromMelbourne bullshit-they dont sound anything like the sex pistols-clean the shit out of your ears!

  • @examinationb0ard ...................cock head

  • its a pitty they arn't as big as AC/DC

  • They had potential.

  • @61SGman They should have been even BIGGER! They were better.

  • @DocBrewster I dunno i think AC/DC had a better style of rock n roll than the angels

  • @61SGman I heard an ACDC song on the radio this morning and it took about a full minute to work out which one it was - listen to Long Way to the Top and Dirty Deeds - there almost the same - sure its a great sound thats why they made it huge - but it tends to be 1 dimensional - I think the Angels had way more depth and variety. Listen to say, Nature of The Beast, Cant Take Anymore, Stciky Little Bitch and then get back to the Classics (No Secrets, Face Again, Long line etc etc) See what i mean?

  • @DocBrewster ...Totally agree.

  • @DocBrewster Yer i get what you mean, its just the school boy jumping around on stage with a guitar that helped there image

  • @61SGman but that school boy taught himself and ran around jumpet headbanged the duckwalk and some other auseome shit

  • @61SGman Angels style was better. Never get tired listening their music. I do have AC/DC records but to be honest do not play them often as I do with Angels LP's.

There was always something different in their music when an lp was released.

  • LUV EM!!!!!!! If you take notice of their lyrics, Doc was a poet! Loved their concerts back in th 80s! Full of energy - they just rocked our socks off!!

  • the thinking man's AC/DC

  • @OllieStench Did you borrow that line off me cos im sure i said that a while ago - anyway - damn straight!

  • @OllieStench couldn't have said it better myself

  • Better than Ezra!...lol

    Love Angel City!

  • Better than Accadacca!

  • Nah.

    Love em both

There is no ac/dc or angels thing IMO. Different bands altogether. Like Bourbon or Scotch its a matter of choice!

  • ACDC is ACDC, THE ANGELS are THE ANGELS, Nothing to compare...

  • yep lyrics flow off my tongue like the national anthem lol...how can you forget your youth?

  • Will always love the Angels!!! Brilliant band live too!

  • Love this band sooo much, they are great live too!!!!! <3 <3 <3

  • how great THE ANGELS will rock on forever aussie greats

  • i luv this

    angels live no bs

  • The Angels are awesome!!!

I think they are a bit more creative with their music then ACDC.

  • One of the best Aussie bands ever. I was 16 when I first saw them at the Cabramatta civic centre. Lost count how many times I seen them but dozens and dozens over many years...Awesome

  • not "one of" - "THEEEEEEE"

  • Does anyone know if this was Balmain Town Hall - I think I was there LOLLLL!

  • Mooloolaba beer garden 1984-85

  • @LoneWolfAUS lol say hi to merv for me.

  • WOOOT!! I can play this on my electric guitar

  • this song was in not quite hollywood!

  • What???

  • I didn't think that Angels smoked........................SMOKIN YYEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • thanks for putting this clip up. It's pretty rare now. These guys were once mistaken for being a punk band. I can see why, after watching this clip. Very loud and raw energy

  • Stunning.

  • wow. goes off. doc and the boys were a big part of my youth. seen them with ac/dc in melb. maybe the best concert i will ever see. and ive seen a few.

  • Aussie rock rules!!!!
